After posting the last "reaction" video where 4,000 images were sent in. I got a lot of requests asking why the images that didn't get picked didn't get picked. I decided to make another pass at the images to pull ones that needed a critique. I hope you enjoy this video, would you like to see me pick even more?

Good critiques Jared. From the perspective of a keen amateur from the film era coming back into photography with a DSLR, these videos are very useful indeed. Sometimes difficult to accept criticisms but thinking back to some of my old pictures I can see the benefit from having advice from someone not afraid to say what needs to be said. Thank you!

Jared, love your critiques - for the most part! Couple of things though: (1) Shots where the background is super sharp, distracting from the subject that's also super sharp. Easily and rapidly fixed in Photoshop, with a number of ways to blur or bokeh or change the background .. . from subtle to extreme, from just a basic blur to motion blurs to spiral blurs. From separating the main focal person or thing in the photo, putting them or it on another layer, and monkeying with the background in even more interesting ways. From even taking it a step further and changing the background entirely. Super easy and fast to do any of that. It's the miracle of Photoshop, a million ways to correct for a something that's awry with a photo's background. (2) Eyes. Not every portrait or closeup of a person needs to have the eyes looking at the camera. Sometimes a better story is told when the person is looking askance, or off into the distance, away from a direct gaze.

The reason my photo at 19:29 is shot at 1/8000 of a second is to freeze the ball to the point the stitches are visible. And the players hand etc. All that would be blurry at 1/4000. And no, If a surprise 2nd sun appeared in the sky, I would not overexpose because I'm shooting in M with Auto-ISO. Another reason i shoot at 1/8000 sometimes is the look is very different. I don't want to shoot the same photo as the guy next to me. Even if he is using tiny lenses. Thanks for including me. I was out in Philly for 2 weeks a short time ago, but there were no Fro events... A shame.

Fro...love the critiques...these are by far the most informative videos you have (however I have not watched all of yours...yet!). Having completed 5 years of architecture school back in the early 90's, and been practicing for 25 years now, and am very familiar with the "crits" of people far more experienced than me at the time, they are an invaluable teaching and learning method. Funny how I love great photography and after 12 years of shooting on all Auto, just decided to bump it up a notch and get out of that Mode and upgraded to a 7D MkII with a 70-200 2.8 and am just starting to learn all over again... really appreciate your insight and knowledge... (PS have yet to delve into RAW, but will soon...[I know I know...]...)
