Hey Jared, I’m the photographer of the fighter jet at 24:19. Just some extra info if you care 😀: The photo was taken on my one day trip to Star Wars Canyon in Death Valley, CA. From where I was standing, a lot of the jet passes were farther than I would have hoped. I would make another trip, but sadly a single-seat version of the fighter jet I sent to you crashed there 2 days ago, making it the first accident to happen there in it’s 90 years of being a low level route. The pilot was killed, and seven people on the ground were injured. So, thats just some more behind the photo :) (FYI, there are plenty of great photos at the canyon after a quick search on Google or on Instagram). Thank you for taking the time to look at my photo!

The image at 40:07 doesn't need more contrast. It is perfect IMO as it was. All images are not supposed to "pop", and this is one of those that don't need to, it is a calm, kind of surreal image and therefore the glow works. Great image Daniel Baksza!

Almost all these "corrections" are overdone, including the ones in the promo of the fropack or whatever. It needs to pop sometimes yes, maybe when you need to grab attention on insta. Landscape shooters overdid it in the velvia + ultrawide days and that's what i associate these photos with. For prints to hang on a wall, i color and contrast is the enemy and a surefire way to end up with cheesy stock office art. I like serene moody, ethereal monochromatic landscape photos with almost no contrast at all.

Loved the video! I totally agree with the #1 image, very impactful. On another note, we need to get a nice portrait of Jared... Of him with a blank look, sitting on the train tracks, not looking at the camera, taken with an un-licenced drone, slightly out of focus. And then edit it to be really flat, low contrast, highly smoothed. And I'd stick a big-ass watermark across the top 1/3rd and crop his left hand off. ;)

I don't agree with some of the things you don't like about the photos but in any case, this was awesome, it's great to hear the thinking process when you critiquing them, and interesting to see equipment and settings used on all the photos.

Daniel Baksza's portrait of the gentleman with glasses, grey hair and beard - Jared, you referenced Peter Hurley's lighting style with the triangle of three striplights instead of a ringlight. I think this was lit differently: A beauty dish at 60 degrees from the top and a reflector panel as clamshell lighting. The sides of the face are lit less than in a Hurley style protrait, IMO. To me, the reflection in the iris of the reflector panel is a question mark. I would have replaced the panel by a gridded stripbox. Overall, very nice portrait, probably 90% the personality of the man, but also very "flat". (at 1:01:19 in the recap)

Hi, I used an octa from the right of the model a gridded stripbox to get some rimlight on the other side plus a vflat. How could I do it less "flat"?

@@heirloomportrait2987- Thank you for the illumination, but. Let me first add that every judgment in the beautiful arts is OKP or PLU (our kind of people, people like us). I am not judging and leave that to Jared. Then, are we talking about the portrait at about 40 minutes into the video of the middle-aged gentleman? I watched the video at 4k (2160p) resolution, but think you will be able to see what I mean even at 720p. Look into the gentleman's eyes, and you'll see both eyes show a white reflection of a light, and then there is one in the bottom of the eyes. This is, in effect clam-shell lighting. In this case, the top light must be slightly towards the camera, firing its light down, feathering the gentleman's face. The bottom light or reflector is filling the shadows caused by the top light. Light fall-off along the sides of the face imply light primarily coming from the front. As to "flat" - turn the picture to B&W and you may find it comes to life more. My remark was to be taken relative to Peter Hurley's exuberantly sunny style. That is a choice, fine, yours. Another thing in a portrait that I did not mention is, the gentleman looks a tiny bit pedantic and in color seems a bit sad, more so than in B&W - this is different for the left half of the face than the right half, if you look carefully. Assuming the portrait was not horizontally flipped, the gentleman has the division in his hair on his right side - generally people choose their best side for the division, and then a portrait could have that side nearer the camera than the other side. Seems like his right eye is slightly lower than his left, so the current portrait exaggerates that slightly (95% of men have a hard time noticing these things). Both the men in front of and the ones behind the camera. Again, no value judgment, just observations shared. You must be proud of your work.

18:12 I prefer her original edit more than the crispy looking edit you put on it. But I might've raised the black point and highlights a notch, and maybe saturated just the warm tones in the figure's skin and red hair, to stand out more from the blue background, which I might try shifting toward purple, slightly. But I don't like overly sharpened and evenly brightened pics.
