This is definitely the type of video that you can react to after the wedding again! I also already saw the pictures of Rupert Kellgren-Fozard at the wedding and let me tell, inviting children was definitely the right choice. He's so cute!

I love kids at weddings! They run around in packs like feral animals in formal wear and basically take care of themselves. They have more fun than all the adults combined. And they get to be a part of one of the most important ceremonies in our culture. I was a flower girl in two weddings and they were some of the best childhood memories I had. Sure they can cause a bit of chaos but what is life without a bit of chaos?

I can relate to this so much, both from the child and adult perspective. Last year I attended several weddings (so many family members postponed their weddings bc of covid so i had to deal with 5 weddings in 2-3 months :") ) and let me tell you that I felt so envious of the children running around. I had some responsibilities to attend to during the ceremonies so unfortunately I, an 18 year old, could not run around and scream random gibberish with them

It’s an unconscious signal of absolute trust. Here’s another interesting one. When in a group of people and someone makes a joke and people laugh, observe who they look at first while laughing. That’s the person whose approval they desire. For me, I’ve found myself naturally looking at my Spiritual Father, but didn’t realise I was doing this after reading about that approval seeking and thinking back to all those times in social settings when yeah…. I do look at him with that trustful and hopeful glance

My fiancee & I both have names that can be shortened/lengthened to "Annie", and even though neither of us go by "Annie" in our day-to-day life, I now kind of want to have a moment at our wedding where we're announced as "Mrs & Mrs Annie [Surname]".

Thu, having kids at our wedding was one of the absolute highlights of our wedding. They encouraged people to dance and the stories that they tell me about it 7 years in and 7 years older is amazing to get their perspective.

I completely agree with you. My 2nd brother's wedding reception was pretty much stolen by my 1st brother's son, he was 3years old at the time and the most precious, adorable kid. There were steps down into the dining area and my nephew decided it was his stage, so he stood on the steps and sung & danced for us while we were eating. The only one stressing about it was his mum and everyone kept telling her it it was fine. Everybody smiled & laughed, and it was the best wedding I've been to, it totally made the day memorable...that was 25 years ago! I have only been to one wedding where no kids went (they weren't banned, it was just the couple's friends & family all had either no kids or their kids were grown. The bridesmaid was youngest there at 17. It was dull as dishwater, the whole day was so boring, at the night reception nobody danced, and the whole day people only spoke to those they knew in their little groups. There was just nothing to lighten the mood and it felt more like a funeral than a wedding. If I ever was to get married (honestly, not likely to happen, but theoretically) I would absolutely want kids there, they really brighten up the day, and get people talking to new people & dancing, etc.

@CutieDee093

@@stillmagic714 I definitely made mine a family event, but I do get that some families don't have kids in their family and don't want to pay for their friends' kids food. But I definitely feel if you have your cousins or nephews and nieces they should be there. When I was 2 was the flower girl for one of my aunt's but my mom would probably have liked not having to have me there because the venue was near a pool and was not a kid friendly spot. She had to chase my crazy ass all over the place. I get both sides but I loved mine :)

At my wedding ceremony, the local Girl Scouts (AKA Girl Guides) provided childcare as their gift to us. That way, nobody who wanted to attend ended up stuck trying to track down a babysitter. It was sweet. Speaking of "sweet" -- you two are a wonderful couple. All the best as you continue on your journeys together ❤.

@@ezraat1am770 - It definitely was SWEET ❤. I was a leader for an elementary-age GS troop. I think I mentioned to the leader of the secondary-age (junior high and high school) GS troop that one of my friends was having a difficult time finding a babysitter ... Did either of her daughters babysit? She said she'd do one better -- her troop would provide child care at the church. The girls had training and met all the GS safety standards, including having two adults supervising them. Everyone had a great time. Thanks for asking.

We are getting married in November. Our reception is a buffet because of all of the kids that are coming. My friends’ kids are considered my additional nieces and nephews, so it would be as special without all of them there!!! But we are live-streaming it on my Instagram for friends and family that can’t make it! And then going to the club for dancing and drinking after dinner! Definitely not conventional, but works best for us!!

Yeah, we went halfway with the kids thing. Family (especially bc a lot of family were traveling) could bring kids. But honestly, if all of our local friends had brought kids it would have taken up way too much space and we would have had to cut the guest list WAY down. Thankfully we knew our friends would have access to childcare.

In the middle of wedding planning at the moment and I am absolutely terrified as a trans man how ‘the legal system’ will treat me. They’ve already been hugely aggressive with pushing me to change my middle name as ‘it’s not masculine enough’ and will affect how others see me when applying for the marriage certificate. So I think one question for Jamie is is the process for applying for a GRC difficult? I’ve been told a minimum of 22 weeks, but I really don’t want to be misgendered on the day 🥺 OTHER questions are how did you decide on everything XD I’m feeling so much pressure to come up with creative or fun wedding favours when I just want it to be a day of celebrations, but because weddings are so ‘hyped up’ it’s just a bit overwhelming 😭 Much love to you both 💕 hope your day was incredible, youre both inspirational!
@jadelinny
@jadelinny Жыл бұрын
I can understand why you would feel so pressured: I definitely felt pressured by a lot of things when I got married (I was also the first out of all my siblings to get married, which didn't help at all). The thing that I most wish I had been able to keep a grasp on was that it was MY wedding day (mine and my partner's), no one else's. You don't owe society anything when it comes to a wedding. Take what you want, and leave the rest. You don't even need wedding favors if you don't want them! We just did it really simple and gave out little bubble wands that the guest could use when we left the reception, which made for some cute pictures. As far as middle names go, a lot of them really aren't as gendered as people think they are. My (male) high school band teacher's middle name was Leslie. My given name (Lindsey) used to be a masculine name, along with a lot of other "feminine" names (Ashley, Taylor, etc). I don't know what yours is, but if you like and you think it fits you, then it IS a masculine name! It's yours, you get to own it. As far as misgendering on the day, make sure your officiant knows your gender, and it should be fine. It doesn't really matter what the legal papers say, as long as the people who are there know who you are. I don't know anything about the GRC, so I can't help you there, but I would definitely get that ball rolling as soon as possible if it's going to take a long time and be out of your hands.

When it came to having kids (under 18) at our wedding, I come from a huge family and the cost to have them all was prohibitive. We ended up with only our niece and nephews and then an offer was made to anyone with an infant who may not have been able to be separated from their parent. No one seemed to have an issue with it. We also had a strict limit on plus ones as well because we couldn’t afford extra bodies both monetarily and due to pandemic guest caps. It sounds like you guys had an amazing day planned out for exactly your style. From one Covid couple to another congratulations!

Congratulations guys! 🥰 side note, I was really surprised by the "no kids" question, I didn't know it was a thing 😮 maybe it's cultural (I'm Italian, although I've been to weddings in other European countries, too) but I had never heard of a wedding where kids aren't invited specifically 😮 unless you are inviting a single person and not the whole family, if you invite a family or a couple with kids the children are automatically invited. That doesn't mean everyone always brings them, still. I didn't expect that to be a thing 😆

Congratulations! I also got married this year, but we thought about what we wanted in a wedding and all we came up with was dressing fancily, eating cake, and not catching COVID before the JoCo cruise. So we had a two-minute ceremony, two cheesecakes (most of which were in my spouse’s freezer for months afterwards) and ten guests. Then for our wedding reception we went on the JoCo cruise with hundreds of mutual friends (but we would have done that even if we hadn’t got married.) We’ve had additional wedding-adjacent cake eating parties with other friends and family members since.

I know this sounds kinda terrible, but I can't wait to shove a huge piece of cake 🍰 into my new wife's face. I know the feeling is reciprocated. My partner is an extremely feminine lesbian and I'm a demisexual panromantic that leans more to the girly side as well. So even though it will be funny as hell, we may both cry and laugh hysterically at our hair and make up being ruined. I find there is nothing wrong with being vain on your wedding day. We hired a stylist just for this. To fix us up after. I can't wait to marry my person. I love her so damn much it physically hurts some times. Don't get me wrong we aren't codependent at all. It just so happens are friendship correlates really will with our partner ship.

Other cultures views on children at weddings (and other festivities as well) is so interesting to me bc im mexican n its so normal for us to have kids present at pretty much every festivity like theres something about little kids in formal wear running around a reception hall n playing on the empty dance floor while everyone else is seated waiting for food n later passing out on chairs bc its midnight n they usually go to bed hours earlier that just screams wedding to me also on the topic of drinking its not like a taboo thing for us to drink in front of children n when i started realizing for the first time that that wasnt a universal thing it was a big culture shock bc ive spent my whole life going to kids birthday parties where adults have micheladas n beer with their food n even taking shots sometimes so wanting to get drunk has never been an impediment to bringing kids to a wedding at least in my family like i straight up feel like its a right of passage for mexican kids to see at least one of your parents get blackout drunk at a party

I live in Wisconsin and it is the same for us. Kids are always at weddings and most people don’t care if they drink around kids. All of my other non-sober family members drank/ drink around their kids.

I totally agree with you on the kids thing. Not only do I find kids a joy to have at weddings and improvement to the overall atmosphere, but also, like you mentioned, it really does prevent people from attending! In my family we have always had kids at all of our weddings, but recently my cousin had a wedding and decided no kids would be allowed. My sister has 2 kids who at the time we both under the age of 3 and that she had to be with or within easy access to pretty much at all times, so it was basically pointless to even invite her b/c there’s no way she could’ve attended. It just kind of feels like “othering” or leaving people out unnecessarily. It turns out that my cousin’s wedding overall had pretty low attendance compared to the amount of people who were invited, so you get in return the vibes you put out I suppose.

My aunt had a 2 or 3 month old baby at my mom's wedding and he started crying during the ceremony. It got worse during my mom's vows so my aunt got up to leave and my mom stopped mid-vows to call her back and tell her It's okay, she mustn't go 😂😂😂

I provided childcare during the ceremony at our wedding, but the kids were free to join in the reception.

We said no kids for the evening only guests (They need to sleep at those times anyway). And some people we where more like. Rather not (small side note those where all younger than 3 and one couple had 3 kids under 3, so that's a lot, especially without other people the kids know around) but they're welcome if you really want/need to take them. We ended up with 3 kids at our wedding, which included the flowergirl. (and her little brother distributed all the leaves during the ceremony XD) but those had a ton of family to look out for them to. And they knew like half the day guest which also makes it a lot more fun for the kids. (If more would have come I probably should have organized a baby sitter or something XD)

I want to know EVERYTHING about the wedding and your suppliers etc! A lot of wedding content on KZbin is either not UK based or too “boring” or religious! My boyfriend and I are a straight cisgender couple not LGBT+ however We both have very strong feelings about wanting to be LGBT+ friendly at our wedding because we want all our LGBT+ friends and family to be comfortable. I’ve been to weddings before that have had super strong cis het vibes which has given me the ick and made me feel super weird. Although we are a cis het couple we don’t want to give off any kind of sexist or homophobic undertones that might make people uncomfortable. We think anyone who isn’t LGBT+ friendly is just a c**t basically 😅 We’re not even engaged yet BUT I have had hints from him that a proposal is coming by the end of this year eeeek! Even if it doesn’t happen before 2023, I know I’ll be with him forever and marry him eventually so yeah, any tips or advice welcome!

Yes? That would be part of the point. Covering the rest of the cake in sprinkles.

As a Greek person, it's very strange to me that deciding whether to allow kids or not at your wedding is even a thing. I'm not saying this to judge, just noting a cultural difference. Traditional Greek weddings are very much family affairs, and I don't think I've ever been to one with no kids present. There's even a traditional role for kids at weddings as παρανυφάκια (paranifakia). Also, regarding the alcohol thing, it seems almost impolite to me for a guest to get completely smashed? Obviously it's okay if that's what you want and all affected parties are fine with it, but that's my first reaction to the idea. I guess I just don't think of a wedding as a place to get smashed, so having kids there wouldn't be a problem. Besides, Greeks are very chill about alcohol. Legal drinking age is 18, you can get beer and wine at 16, and before then you probably had a relative who gave you a sip of wine to try when you were 11. Obviously no kid or young teen would be having drinks, but there just isn't an attitude of protecting kids from alcohol.
