@@muzmason3064 Not quite. His routine on Britain winning a war against every other country has many errors. The audience is won over by the speed of delivery and his reputation. Yes, the names of countries come off the cuff but he delivered in an authoritative manner and was incorrect with a number of facts, partly because he was outside his area of expertise.

You also need to realise that at the start of the 'show', Al converses with the audience, remembers their names, occupations and similar. He then refers to people throughout the show... So when he looked up to the box and asked if "being a fireman was all its cracked up to be..." - the guy was a fireman etc.

@@seniorslaphead8336 TBH: YOU are the very first person I have ever heard make that comment... Also, I have been in several Al Murray shows over a few years. As far as I'm aware, not one person in the audience were 'plants' (and I spoke with quite few). Also, I GOT 'picked on' once and was NOT expecting it - mind you, I got off lightly, but ONLY because someone nearby had their mobile 'ring' and Al turned his attention to them... So for you to say 'he uses a lot of them', I challange YOU to explain how you know this, because I DON'T BELIEVE YOU !!! So please prove it!

In his stand up shows, he plays his character "the pub Landlord", so beer is referenced often and he passes out drinks to the audience from time to time. He is actually rather smart and has a history degree from Oxford, so history and politics get used in a lot of his shows. His most popular videos to react to are "Name a country... A good friend of mine used to run a small comedy club in central London. The acts were either "up and coming" comedians or established pros trying out new ideas. One evening Al Murray turned up and asked whether rather than use the stage, would it be okay to do his new act from behind the bar - and that I believe is where "The Pub Landlord" was first tried out on a live audience. (I'm sure many others will say the same in the comments - but, you have to do "Al Murray vs Americans" - it's hilarious!) Another great comedian from London, is Micky Flannagan, my favourite, is his act, "To catch a peeper" - but everything he does, you can't go wrong!

For context, Al Murray plays a pub landlord - traditionally these were men who ran a pub. They were typically strong characters who were very opinionated (in spite of not always being the brightest) on everything, had traditional views, and often very patriotic. Growing up with these characters, their world-view resonates with many people and provides the ideal vehicle through which he delivers the comedy. Seeing the world through the lens of this character helps deal with contentious issues, make fun of things, and challenge/sidestep political correctness.😅

You've been told how educated he is and he's playing a character, he does crowd work. The lager he drinks on stage is non alcoholic though so he can play up to the character character without actually getting drunk. Name a country, we've defeated them, you'll both definitely like that one!!

you need to watch one of his shows from the beginning, he will "work" the audience, asking their names and jobs etc, and he will be working usually upto 20 people, remembering their names and keep coming back to them. The audience fully expect to be worked too. His character is Al Murray, the pub landlord. He also did a chat show on British Tv, based on that character, and in a fake pub.

There was a TV show he did called "Time Gentlemen Please" (what the pub landlord shouts at kicking out time). He's reliving the character he played in that show for stand-up comedy.

The Pub Landlord edit Murray's principal character in performance is an English publican with conservative values and an animosity towards Germans and the French; he challenges audience members to name any country before producing some plausible instance of Britain bettering it. The character has a great love of the British 1970s rock band Queen, often getting musician(s) on his show to perform one of Queen's tunes in their own style. He has described his persona as a "know-all know-nothing blowhard who knows the answer to every question even though he hasn't been asked any of them".[17] The character first appeared in 1994 during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, in the show "Pub Internationale", with Harry Hill[13] and Matthew Bradstock-Smith (who played "Little Alan" as well as the keyboards in Hill's Edinburgh, radio and TV shows). The show featured the "Pub Band", with Murray playing the drums and compering. After trying out a character deemed not to have worked, at the opening show Murray suggested saying that the compere had not made it to the show and that the barman in the venue, the Pleasance Cabaret Bar, had offered to fill in. At the Edinburgh Festival,[18] Murray came up with "The Pub Landlord".[

He uses a character called the pub landlord in his act, it's a British thing, pub landlords ran pubs in UK and chatted to customers, made jokes and helped with the atmosphere of pubs.

Al Murray is great, went to see him live a few years ago, he generally only goes after the people in the front few rows (generally he'll get their names and talk to them earlier on). And yes he has a working bar on the stage and drinks (although I don't think as much as it looks).

I know introverts feel different but I love comedians you can involve yourselves with. I am an Auatralian and there was this comic named Rodney Rude and he had the kind of show where the audience yelling out stuff were called hecklers, but they were also integral to the show and Rodney Rude wanted those 'hecklers' to yell out whilst drunk. Addressing the hecklers was at least 10% of his show. I had been to a show before but when I went to a 2nd show I was drunk and felt confident. So I started interrupting him and yelling out in the middle of his show. It was brilliant. He tore me apart. My looks, my clothes, the mystery of how I had a girl agree to attend the show with me, the way I speak, what my future would be. The dude took a solid 2 minutes of the show to level me like I was Baghdad. And then after the show Rodney Rude found me in the bar and bought my party a round of drinks and spent a solid half hour chatting and laughing with us and thanking me for the ammo.😂

Hi Steve & Lindsey, I have been waiting for you to watch some British comedy. There is so much for you to choose from. I saw him earlier in the year where he asked the people in the audience the normal name, job etc but also asked how they met their partner. (night clubs, pub, at work, hobbies) He then compared their answer with youngsters in the audience, berating them by using apps.
