VoicePlay's shorts/minis are all fantastic! They're all bigger on the inside 😉! Jose was more recently in their Drunken Sailor, you should watch it if you didn't already. I love this format!

Yes, if you haven't seen VP's Drunken Sailor, you really must. I know you've probably heard ten thousand versions of the song, but VoicePlay's rendition is on another level.

This was such a wonderful video!!! The minis are so often neglected by reactors on YT (and realistically I know why, but still) and it is fantastic to see your take on them. Absolutely, please please do more of them!! Peaches is a "biggie" (ie. a mini that is so much longer they made it a normal YT video, but still not a full production) but one of my favourites. Jericho, Something in the Way, Mr Sandman, Star Walking, Anti-Hero, Surface Pressure, and These Boots are made for Walking are all so worth being analysed and appreciated. and of course a much older one Stay Away Shark with the usual VP humour. And I don't think any voiceplay fans would mind a three hour video if you have the time for those sort of shenanigans... 😉😂

So happy you decided to do a deep dive into the minis. For a little fun fact, Geoff said in a chat that when he ordered the costumes for “I’m too Sexy” (because he was in charge of that set of minis) that he almost ordered mesh shirts but got vetoed by the other guys.

Loved these!! They did Putting On the Ritz - I wonder if any of them know who Gary Cooper is, or when Cesar wore a pocket square last. They did Part of Your World before they did When You Wish Upon a Star. Holding the last note in it was Eli. World's Smallest Violin was recorded in the mall they always use, but J could not get back, so he recorded in Washington state. The boys recorded themselves on their own cell phones and then it was compiled into one with J's. Out of this batch Mahna Mahna is my favorite!! Next time: Made You Look Wellerman Jericho I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) Far Over the Misty Mountains Cold The Last Shanty Part of Your World Baby On Board (Asher has a cameo)

This was a fantastic treat! Not gonna lie- had to stretch the viewing out into a couple of sessions, but still well worth it! I would definitely love to see more shorts/minis in this kind of format in the future.

Loved seeing how much you enjoyed these! It was Mahna Mahna that prompted me to start sharing VoicePlay videos with my husband. We binge watched VP videos for four hours that night. ❤😂❤😂

The original version of “Mahna Mahna” played on Sesame Street in 1969. A dangerous song to teach small children to sing. Kind of like “The Song that Never Ends”

Hah, saw that you did a video on the shorts and clicked, and then saw how long it was (the RIGHT amount of time, hah!) and paused, made some tea and came back! this was brilliant, I love how many details you catch, it's so much fun seeing all the work the guys put even in their shorts! your reactions and analyses are brilliant, thanks for doing them!

Please do more minis!! Love your breakdown/reviews of these. There’s not enough reactions to them and some of them(who am I kidding all of them) are fantastic and show off the comedy and “brand of dumb” that is Voiceplay ❤. Especially one that came out today but MUST be watched on Instagram or fb as the last 10 seconds are crucial!! 😉

When I saw this, I got so excited. The only downside is that the minis on KZbin often get cut short because KZbin only supports one minute exactly for minis. We'll sow how this goes. - Ramble with articulation.....yes. I love this. - Often when VP has a guest for a video, they will also feature them in shorts. So this was filmed at the same time Adriana did Jingle Bell Rock with them. - And, yes, first short in, and you've figured out the one minute rule. 😆 - Never underestimate the amount of things you can talk about in a VP short. It's amazing all of the detail they condense down to these mini versions of these songs. - I have never seen anything Bob's Burgers, but I thought this one was so much fun, and I love Rachel's character. They also have a mini of the theme song, I believe is what it is, with Adriana. - Before I actually watch you watch I'm Too Sexy, I also didn't know how they were going to do this one, but as usual, they pull it off perfectly. - Geoff and Kathy were dog sitting that week, and so Olive got to make an appearance, and of course the called her the eye candy. - I find it funny that everyone but Geoff is wearing a button down shirt with at least the top 3 buttons undone, a signature look for Geoff. - As someone else pointed out, Eli is doing the bass at the beginning of this one. - The holographic band-aid is everything. 😂 - The guys have a few barbershop style shorts now. This one, Part of Your World, and the newest, Baby on Board featuring Asher. They just posted it last week. - The background for Wish Upon a Star is meant to look like an old Disney store that you would find in malls in the US. - I love Eli's reassuring look he gives Cesar as he's holding out that note for forever. - Watching all of these back to back like this made me realize Eli is wearing the same zebra print shirt that Layne was wearing in Too Sexy. They often share and reuse clothing pieces, but I just noticed this one. - You mentioning the tempo of the song made me think of how VP has said they will often speed up their arrangements as compared to the original as a way to keep it interesting to the listener. Not often that much faster but 5-10 bpm is pretty regular for them. - Also J's annunciation, I can't remember if you have listened to their cover of What's This from the Nightmare Before Christmas, I don't think you have, but J takes the lead in that one too, and I think it's a great showcase of his annunciation abilities. - This is what happens when I pause to comment as the video is happening. You're picking up on the zebra print shirt now, too. 🤣 - VP are so good at taking something that you previously didn't like or couldn't stand to something you really enjoy and want to listen to over and over again. Mahna Mahna was that piece for me. I didn't necessarily hate it, it just would stick with me for weeks if I ever heard it and would intrusively interrupt my thoughts at random times, so I avoided it at all costs. Of course, I gave VP the benefit of the doubt and watched their short and immediately fell in love. Now any time I think of this song, I hear Omar in my head belting this out and it makes me happy. - "Not gonna lie, I also want to listen to it again." How? How does VP always do this? - Now you have to go see VP's full cover of Bang, also by AJR. - All the guys except J are together for Smallest Violin. J was off doing Navy things and couldn't join them in person, so he filmed his part separately, also in a mall, and they decided to edit it this way as separate visuals. - Yes, Cesar ends up in a massage chair. The guys were trying to convince Layne to do his part in the bathroom, but he obviously decided against that. 😆 - The opening sound for Doctor Who here is similar or perhaps the exact same as the sound effect they use at the beginning of Wookie for Christmas. - When filming the Doctor Who theme mini, they did two others with Jose while he was there, Magic Dance from Labyrinth and That's What Friends are For from Jungle Book. Funny enough I bought the signed photo from their website that includes images from all three of these minis, and it's hanging on my wall. This was so much fun. I love when people do several of their minis in one video like this. Hopefully we can see you react to more in the future.

To me, in When You Wish Upon a Star, it looks like Geoff knew that Cesar was going to fall back, but there is a definite moment when realizes he doesn’t quite have him 🤣 That’s just a guess though. I hadn’t hear World’s Smallest Violin either, but I really enjoy it. It so perfectly captures that feeling you get that your own depression and struggles aren’t valid because other people have had it so much worse, but at the same time is somehow bouncy and fun? And the guys killed it, of course. This format worked pretty well for the shorts, it’s too bad KZbin and every other platform make it so hard for them to put out shorts in a format that works for them and for us.

In about 1970 or so I heard Ma na ma na on the radio and loved how silly it was. Our local hangout joint had it on the juke box and my friend and I played it all the time! We must have spent a fortune on it. It was much later that the Muppets featured it.(I think it was when my kids were watching.) I love that at any given moment I might see Voiceplay at my local Costco.

The trick to get proper control over playback of shorts, is to use yt-dlp to retrieve the video files, and open them up in your media player of choice (I use vlc). If KZbin didn't want people doing this, they could always, you know, fix their bloody shorts interface, or better yet just *scrap* the horrible shorts interface altogether and present the shorts in the regular video interface. They could easily do that if they wanted to. There's no technical barrier.

Another useful trick: just take the URL of the short, and replace "shorts" with "watch". Ta-daa, you have the short open in your regularly usable YT interface.

Oh yes, I enjoyed this a lot!! There are so many more VoicePlay shorts I would love if you did! my favourites are A Pirate’s Life For Me, Turning Red, Peaches, Wellerman (be sure to take the longer version, near two minutes), The Last Shanty, The Tiki Room, Jericho, 500 Miles.

Their shorts and minis are as varied as the regular videos. And all brilliant. Some of these do get cut off before the end on KZbin which is infuriating but Geoff explained that they can't do anything about it. I'm assuming that Rachel filmed her [art in the Thanksgiving one at home as she lives a long way from the guys. The "puppy" is actually a very old lady. :)

The Smallest Violin vid - the pandemic wasn’t the only reason it was done like that. If you look close, you’ll see the mall J is in looks a tad different than the mall the other four are in. Right before he lays down, you can see the mall name in the background. It’s not their usual haunt….it’s in Washington state. This was filmed with J on the other side of the country and I’m sure that impacted the video design. And fascinating info on the Right Said Fred/Doctor Who connection. That literally dropped my jaw. I’d never imagined that fellow having a recording out.

Just letting you know... Geoff Castellucci will be premiering his new video "Unshaken" today at noon est. He brought back the 4 ghost riders from "Ghost Riders In the Sky" when they were alive. It is beautiful and epic.

Voiceplay released their new video Friday, June 28th..... Classical Chaos. They brought back their characters (Grundels) from their video "In The Hall of The Mountain King". It is absolutely fantastic and fun.

Well - this was a fun one! You managed several of my faves in this one. I hope you get to some of the other shorts another time! MUST do "These Boots Are Made For Walking"! One small 'correction' (since he was one of my favorite Doctors) - the hat Cesar is wearing was part of Tom Baker's outfit, too. Hat & Scarf - and a bag of 'Jelly Babies' in the coat pocket. I also hope you get around to VoicePlay's newest song soon. "Sleeping in the Cold Below" It is a real earworm.

'twas great, love exrutiating long videos! (Of quality). Thank you so much, I loved hearing these again, I think we even got to a few I have not watched, and I love learning stuff from you. Go for it, man! As I mentioned somewhere below, for future reference, with KZbin shorts, you can currently just type "watch" in place of "shorts" in the URL to watch them with the regular YT interface. Though that does not help, I think, with the occassional trimmed ending for videos over a minute.

The book Omar has in hand during Mahna Mahna is a novel by Anne McCaffrey. I recognized the name and the font because I have all 5 books of her The Tower and Hive series. Makes me want to go back to them now.

A lot of fun! A couple of Doctor Who comments, because I can't help myself. (1) Much credit for the theme has to go to Delia Derbyshire as well, for how she arranged/implemented it: when Ron Grainer heard her interpretation, he apparently said "did I write that?"! Some of us refer to November 23rd as Delia Derbyshire Day in her honour. (2) Not all police boxes were blue, but that was the colour of the Metropolitan Police boxes in London, which was where the show started. Thanks!

I love when reactors do the Voiceplay shorts as well. We don't see much of those and it helps Voiceplay too. I was going to mention something k each until you did Dr Who . I had the pleasure of meeting Peter Davidson when he became one of the Drs in St Petersburg Florida in the mid 80s. Such a really nice guy. Got to shake his hand and talk to him a few minutes. My 3rd ex husband and I was very much into the show. Watched from the first episode to the 7th. My favorite was Tom Baker. Hes the one that wore the scarf and fedora/hat. Didn't care for Colin Baker though. But they can't all be your favorite. I watched the 50th anniversary shows and episodes on tv as well. Was fantastic.

Minis! There are so many good minis by Voiceplay! I want to put a few on your radar that no one's mentioned yet. In no particular order, Remember Me from CoCo, Surface Pressure from Encanto, That's What Friends Are For (The Vulture Song), Take On Me by A-Ha, Holiday Movie Mini Medley ft Jose Rosario Jr, Halloween Singers Go Psycho, Bob's Burgers Theme, & Hooked on a Feeling. I also highly recommend reacting to AJR's official video for World's Smallest Violin. It is wild!

I really enjoyed that you did this Thank You! I love the minis/shorts such a treasure trove of tiny gems. I have seen all the Drs in the series but not all the episodes, especially the lost ones they animated, I really didn't care for those.

Glad you got the chance to watch some shorts... They are super fun, and your analysis are always very informative. I'm not familiar with AJR either, but both songs from them that VoicePlay covered are on the top of my favorites from VoicePlay. The other one is Bang, which is also a very interesting song and I absolutely love VoicePlay's take on it. Hope you got a chance to check it out at some point.

Other than the content from the House of Mouse I really enjoyed this video. As we know I'm a massive fan of Voice Play in general and I love their short form blurbs. The amount of fun they can pack into a minute or two is amazing to me. Cesar is the star of the show every time. He brings such energy and character to everything he does. I can hardly wait to see more reactions to the library of shorts they have. Wonderful work, as always, David.

There is a trick. If you go to the URL and replace the word short woth I beleive "watch" it will open as if it is a normal video, allowing you to rewind and control as normal

Thank you! I didn't know that trick, and it does work. Unfortunately the one thing it can't do is reinstate anything past a minute that KZbin cuts off, so the longer videos would still be abbreviated. Still, that's a good trick for being able to pause anything under a minute. :-)

@@davidkreacts It happens that they post a version on Patreon that is not the final version and therefore shouldn’t go public. So I don’t recommend it, but if you do, please make sure to read the text for the video so they at least have not stated that it’s not the final video.
