Marcella doesn’t get enough praise I think. It is her who sings harmony with the other two and everytime she makes sure that her voice blends perfectly adjusting the colour of her voice to match hers with either Floor or Anneke.

that is why she is one of the Angels!! The art of backup singing is quite different and much more demanding than that of lead especially in a show such as this with so many different singers with so many different styles and types of voice! All 3 of them are lead vocalists although Irene is more of a mother these days. :D

The blonde in the middle is Anneke Van Giersbergen…she used to sing for The Gathering, and now does a lot of Arjen’s projects, as well as collaborations with Devin Townsend and others. She also has her own band called Vuur. There’s a documentary called Soaring Highs and Brutal Lows: the Voices of Women in Metal…features her, Floor, Simone and others. When asked who inspired them to think it was possible for a woman to sing in a metal band, they all said Anneke!

If you find Ayreon Star One album live 2003 you will see Arjen playing guitar and the two female vocalists are Floor and her sister Irene for the whole concert. In fact they sing this song 53 minutes in !! On this version we have Floor Jansen, Anneke van Giersbergen and Marcela Bovio.

Not sure if it’s mentioned already, but this song is actually part of an entire story - or Space Opera as Arjen calls it - which features many, many great artists brought together. Obviously that’s what Arjen does with Ayreon, but this one is especially epic in my opinion. It’s called “into the Electric Castle” and features not only great singers such as Anneke van Giersbergen (ex The Gathering and now Vuur and a lot of solo projects), Sharon den Adel (Within Temptation), Fish (ex Marillion and also brilliant solo career) and Damian Wilson, but also great musicians such as Thijs van Leer ( real famous flute player in my country), Clive Nolan (Pendragon) and Ton Scherpenzeel (Kayak). For the live concert Arjen managed to get John the Lancia (Star Trek’s Q) for the narrations and added Simone Simmons (Epica) to the line-up! Really really amazing storyline and a lot of really powerful songs on this album. You should definitely check it out!

Marcela Bovio was hand-picked by Arjen Lucassen to front a project called Stream of Passion. Arjen wrote the tunes and Marcela wrote the lyrics. The resulting album, 'Embrace The Storm', is easily in my top five favourite albums of all time. It is perfection. In terms of melodic pop-metal only Delain's 'April Rain' matches it, in my opinion. After that album Arjen stepped away and let Marcela continue the band. They put out three more albums before disbanding. And while those records were GOOD they certainly missed Arjen's songwriting genius.

The ONLY thing wrong with this song is it is TOO SHORT!!!! Those 3 angels need to sing together much longer! I'm always blown away by Marcela Bovio and her harmonies from what I've heard her in with Ayreon....and of COURSE, Floor, and Anneke, the woman who inspired a young Floor to give singing in metal a chance! If you want to see some entertaining videos, check out Anneke when it is just her and a guitar or her trusty ukulele...she sounds great, and she is a riot with her interactions with the audience!
