💬 I’ve been waiting well over two years to do this song out of complete respect for my fellow compilation creator, Derek Brooks. He did an amazing mashup to this song back in November 2021. If you have not seen it yet, please go check it out here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/anO0hqGli6eGqtEsi=gJfcdAytpG7RZS2A Life has been smacking me upside the head the last couple of months but I don’t know what I would have done without this amazing distraction. I swear music has saved me on so many occasions. Trying something different in dropping this one. A premiere! I hope this finds you all safe and sound and please enjoy! Onto the next! 💜

RUSH is THE PERFECT EXAMPLE of the fluidity of MASTERING TIME SIGNATURES! I play drums and there are a few things that you need to know about Neil Peart’s ( pronounced PEER-T) character: First he writes the lyrics so he knows in advance what TYPE of song it’s meant to be ie ballad, driver, etc. Second he COMPOSES on the drums… like a carpenter who looks at a set of blueprints before building the object. Neil lays out a SKETCH in his mind of the VOICES of the drumset and builds the song from there. He is also a great LISTENER knowing when NOT to step over Geddy’s singing or Alex’s solos! Finally, he had perfect timing and fluidity of time changes. He said himself that it’s not about COUNTING the time signatures as much as fluid motion to change the tempo without counting: in other words it should FLOW! He hates repeating the same drum patterns in the same song meaning if he plays a fill one way the first time around he will play it differently the second time around. IE. Rolls down the toms the first time around and triplets or quads (all four limbs) the second time around. In short there will NEVER be another like him on planet earth 🌍 🌏 🌎! REST IN PEACE PROFESSOR! With heart felt admiration and sincerity! Gary

RUSH: MASTERS OF TIME SIGNATURES: They don't sit down and say "Let's write in (x) time signature." They just write what they feel. Jacob's Ladder alternates between 5/4, 6/4 and 7/4, then 6/8 and 7/8. Limelight is 7/4 not 7/8. The middle of La Villa (A Lerxst in Wonderland) is in 7/8. Kid Gloves is in 5/4 for the intro and verses and 4/4 for choruses. The Trees starts in 3/4, moves into 4/4 and the solo section is 5/4.

Yet another outstanding compilation video, Momma!! Rush is one of my favorite bands, and one of my favorites to see people react to for the first time. Even people that might not know much about music recognize Neal's greatness and most are amazed that the wall of sound they're hearing is coming from only 3 guys! "Tom Sawyer" seems to be a pretty common entry level Rush song, much like "The Pot" for Tool, but usually is just the beginning of the rabbit hole. Take care Momma, and I'm so sorry about your cat. Looking forward to your next project ✌️

I saw them on this tour. I was 15. I forgot my ticket and there was a riot and teargas in Hollywood Fl. I TRIED TO help some bad ass burnout jump the wall. THE COPS WERE WAITING AND WACKED HIM ONthe head. He fell into this muddy canal and wanted to kill. I was able to sneak in bcause of teargass and could have got wacked by the cops who were bashing some guys skull in. Very scary. I always respected Rush for still having the show. The opening band was Riot. Of course, 2112 is the gold standard. But great compilation. Dam you are talented.

It is truly amazing how Rush's talent is recognized instantly even when hearing them very first time. Legends. A bit of trivia, if you watch any of videos of their lives shows check out for the washing machines and dryers. The reason??? Geddy's side of the stage compared to Alex has much less amps and stacks so they did it to balance it out.

I'm a 70's grad, we didn't have to be sold out for just one band, we had a buffet of great music we could choose from. Monday could be Rush, Tuesday Yes, Wednesday Boston 14:25 , Thursday Frampton, Friday Led Zepplin, Saturday Fleetwood Mac, Sunday Pink Floyd.......could go a whole month listening to a different great band every day. All different genres, some blending genres together forming their own genre.....Steely Dan the most notable "mixer". All before digital tools like Autotune and mixing software. Most bands did their recordings as a group live in the studio, usually only re-tracking vocals or mistakes.

Recorded at the Morin-Heights Studio (Québec), this video of Rush playing Tom Sawyer particularly touches me. I live 8 minutes from the site of this Studio, which unfortunately no longer exists today, following a fire that ravaged almost everything. A commemorative plaque bearing the inscription "Rush" remained on the site for many years. This Studio was located on 233 acres of land, including Perry Lake named after the founder of the Studio. André Perry who became known as a sound engineer working for John Lennon when he, accompanied by Yoko Ono, came to Montreal for his Bed In for Peace. They recorded their anthem "Give Peace a Chance" in their room at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel with André Perry on tape. The Studio was used by many notable Canadian and international singers, including Rush (it was even nicknamed "Rush's Abbey Road Studios"), The Police, Sting solo, the Bee Gees, Chicago, David Bowie, April Wine, Cat Stevens and Celine Dion, among others.
