The Singer is a show in China where only established singers are invited to perform. All the singers invited to this show are already well-known artists in China who have already won awards. Dimash was invited as the first foreigner as a wild card and the youngest in the history of this show. They became aware of him because he had already won some important competitions in Kazakhstan and Belarus, among others. He was still completely unknown in China. Actually, it was intended that he would only have 1 or 2 appearances. But it came completely different. When he woke up the next morning after his first performance of SOS he was a megastar in China and even found bodyguards outside his hotel room. SOS’ first video had 600 million views when it aired. He was just 22 years old at the time. Opera2 was the second performance of The Singer competition in 2017 in China. The song is in Russian. A language he also speaks fluently. The original was from the famous Russian singer named Vitas. The song is very famous and popular in China. The audience already knew what to expect, but were very surprised when Dimash raised the pitch three times. Vitas but only once. I think it was very difficult for him at the beginning. You have to imagine, until this competition in China in 2017 he never was alone. Dimash, like many other Kazakhs, has the tradition of living under one roof with the whole family all together. He lives with his grandparents, parents, a sister, a brother an other relatives in the same house. And now he had to go to China alone, didn‘t know the country, didn‘t know the language, didn‘t know the traditions or livestyle in this country and up to that point he spoke (almost) no English, except maybe „Thank you“ and „My name is Dimash“. Only one interpreter came along and that at the age of 22. He was almost a kid to me then (my son is 20 so I can imagine…). And after that performance he saw his dad. So beautiful and emotional. During the Opera 2 performance, he flirted with the audience in a way that wasn’t really his habit at the time (fortunately that has changed in the meantime). And afterwards he said that he was really uncomfortable that his father saw him like that🤭. Luckily he didn’t find out until afterwards because I love it when he’s like that on stage🥰. I love this video because he still seemed so innocent. Just a boy and he didn't seem as serious as he sometimes is these days. He still looked carefree. I think what's happening today in the world worries him a lot. Please react to another song from The Singer competition. Daybreak. It’s a very important song for us Dears. There are two versions of this song and I’m sure you will get some recommendations for the Bastau version. But I highly recommend you to watch the version with the story behind on the Gloria Wu channel first and then the one from his Bastau concert. It was the 8th performance of this competition. I don’t think there are copyright issues, because the videos on this channel are already edited and there are English subtitles. I think you will appreciate the Bastau version even more if you’ve seen The Singer version before. As somebody mentioned in a comment, I totally agree that it is always very frustrating when reactors jump on the Bastau version and don’t know the sad story of this song and don’t even try to activate the subtitles. I can understand that a lot of Dears prefer reactions to this version because it is just incredibly more powerful. In my opinion, however, it loses at bit of its impression, if you don’t know why he sings, the way he sings. This song tells a very sad but true story. You really have to watch this with subtitles. It’s really important to know what the song is about. In the Singer version he was so sick and had a severe sore throat and fever. He lost his voice the night before his performance of Daybreak. I heard him say in an interview that it was very painful throughout the song, that his throat feels like shredded glass but he didn’t want to disappoint the people who stand behind him and so he pulled himself together and went on stage. He got 5 injections from this doctor in the hospital. And the doctor told him not to sing high notes. You can see how concerned the other competitors were and they suffered with him. They knew he was not doing well and one of them even gave him a very expensive Chinese medicine from his own inventory. The problem was his busy schedule between the performances and he didn’t have enough time to recover. After the performance he lost his voice again. It’s unbelievable how he always manages to convey emotions to such a degree. Though I think in this one particular version the emotions he shows are mostly concern about his voice keeping up with the song and the pain he must have been in doing it. The Bastau version (no sore throat) of Daybreak is phenomenal and mind-blowing. So emotional and heartbreaking. Maybe you can do both together. Many reactors do and so you can see the difference between this two performances. In both versions I always cry my eyes out. I don’t know why I have to cry more. Because of the story or the fact, that he was in such pain and performed anyway because he didn’t want to disappoint the audience. Both version were in the same year 2017. Everyone watches the other’s performance. Clap, sing along. In my opinion, no one begrudges the success of another. They might not have taken Dimash seriously at first, but that quickly changed after SOS. Through ist honest, cheerful and open nature, he found friends very quickly. Contacts that still exist today. Especially to Terry Lin. That’s the guy with the glasses. Just for fun, Terry adopted Dimash and Dimash named him Papa Lin. Do not be fooled. Terry is older than he looks. He was 50 years old then. They performed together on stage and sang Dimash’s song Unforgettable Day together. They visit each other when they can and send each other birthday greetings. Greetings and love from Germany👋❤️

This was from I Am Singer in China in 2017. The other contestants were all professional singers and Dimash was the youngest participant and first foreigner. He comes from a very traditional close knit family in Kazakhstan and was homesick so his father surprised him. You should watch the first episode of the competition which was SOS but watch the behind the scenes version as it gives an explanation as to how the show works. After the first episode Dimash became an overnight sensation in China.

FYI, Opera 2 is a Russian song by Vitas whose lawyers tried to block Dimash from singing the song at the Singer competition. As you can see Dimash did a phenomenal job and did two changes higher.

👉 Not opera… kidding… is the wind 🤣 That was the second song in the competition "Singer 2017". The organizers of the competition asked Dimash to sing this "simple song”. The song is about a guy who built a house and now lives all alone and sad in it ...listening to the howling of the wind outside ... This song belongs to the Ukrainian- Russian vocal clown Vitas. (Relates to Videos on KZbin: Vitas sings never live and his voice is always processed electronically) However, the Chinese forgot to ask Vitas. The rights holders have sued the Chinese television... unfortunately too late. The Chinese had already put it online and so it stays on the internet forever. * Vitas (Vitaly Vladasovich Grachev, *1979 Latvian SSR is a Ukrainian- Russian pop singer who mainly sings in Russian. He is also a composer, actor and fashion designer. Nobody knew or heard Dimash before and he had to start first ... and after his first song "SOS" Dimash captured the hearts of over 600 million viewers and a mega-star was born overnight. The next day, bodyguards stood in front of his door. “Opera #2” was the 2. song in the competition. The competition consisted of 14 rounds over 4 months. The jury consisted of 500 spectators who knew music, not just your average "Joe". They were well screened to be sure they would be able to judge the musicians fairly and competently. With up to 1 billion people watching this TV program and international interest was aroused. The performances were uploaded to KZbin ... and so we became Dimash's Dears. The Chinese organizers planned... but Dimash came, sang and stayed ... for the next 3 years in China ... but he only finished second in the competition because he is not Chinese (conditions have changed: 2018, Jessie J. won). You noticed towering Dimash embracing and standing beside his Dad. Dimash is actually 6'3'' tall! Both of his parents are very well-respected and accomplished musicians in Kazakhstan. Dimash began his training at age 5, and as of May 24, is now 29 years old. He has a 6-octave range of A2 to D8. Some authorities say 7 octaves, which I would not argue with. He can reach a "whistle register" of G#7, which exceeds falsetto! He can maintain breath control on a note for an exceedingly long time without faltering (witness this at the very end of his performance of "Stranger"). But above all this and more, he is a great soul, full of kindness, compassion and humanitarianism toward humanity!

Dimash was called imported little brother because he was the only foreigner and the youngest in the competition. Both the audience, participants and the Chinese people loved him from the first song which was "Sos". I often watch the whole competition, it's so nice to follow Dimash's progress. En China, sus compañeros de competencia le decían " pequeño hermano importado" él era invitado especial. Esa fue la razón por la que. No ganó el concurso, le dieron un mención especial, ya que ningún cantante extranjero podía obtener el primer lugar. The difference to amercan idol is that these are/were all well-known singers in China. Nobody knew Dimash in China, and he was the youngest at the time.

If you had ever listened to the original singer do this song, you would be more than amazed at how DIMASH took it to a different level; and the competitors watching his performance know how much better he did the song, one said it was terrifying, the looks of the others faces tell it all. I would not want DIMASH doing a song of mine for he makes it his own when he does.

He was only 22 years old at the time of the recording and the youngest contestant also. In later years there were younger contestants. He is the imported younger brother because this was the first time a non-Chinese person came on this show. In later Chinese shows, he has said can I not be the imported kid brother. lol. Well he was talking about his age, more than being imported. LOL. The Singer show (when it was still on) was for established Chinese singers, Dimash was invited in as a wildcard (to spruce up the ratings). So relatively unknown at the time, other than some Slavic/Turkish countries. This was the 2nd song he sang during that season (Season 5 - 2017). It was also the first time he had been away from his family for that long (I think at this point, 2-3 weeks). The show gets votes by the studio audience only, 500 people. So based on people's moods, it is a hit or miss. Clearly he blew their socks off during this performance. Vitas (original singer) is actually well known in China, and had a strong following there.

Vitas went up only 2⁉️ Dimash went up 4‼️ Vitas then forbids Dimash from doing any of his music, and Vitas Re-recorded it in 2020🙃 ❤️2U&2ALLU❤️🦌🦌💫🌎🇺🇸 This is “I’m A Singer” show in 🇨🇳 China. The other contestants are the Best of China’s singers. Dimash was a wildcard invitee 2017. He was the youngest at 22 and the 1st foreigner. He couldn’t win because he’s not Chinese, but they opened the rules the next year.
