Yeah, it's unexpected, here (in France) people are not metal fan, not in media, not in radio, not in TV (only time there is metal on TV here, it's for mocking...). Everybody knows it exist, but it's really "underground". Never ever heard metal in public, most people said "it's not music, it's just noise, it's evil" ... Few hours before Olympic opening, I heard about the presence of Gojira in the opening, almost everyone had doubt, because we are really close minded about it (we = overall people), and in one only second, I knew it was them, and WOW, great step in music, great step for my country, great step for events in general. Really ballsy.

Metal is mainstream nowhere other than perhaps Finland and Norway.

Hello from France...thanks for your commentaries...just to explain the "trolley" : it is in fact the representation of Paris' coat of arms, which is a ship with the motto "Fluctuat nec mergitur" meaning "it floats but does not sink"...as for the Castle it is indeed a real castle turned prison during the French Revolution and where Marie-Antoinette was emprisonned...as for the song "ah ça ira..." performed here, it is a famous revolutionary song against the aristrocay, and Gojira adapted it to a more metal sound....

As for the Opening Ceremony, apart from a few lengths and IMO too many "Drag Queens" on the Passerelle Debilly, at 66 years old it's the first that I've seen that's so unique, so crazy, so thought-provoking, so unexpected (Gojira is proof...) and so innovative ! Parading on The Seine in front of more than 320,000 people, it’s different than doing it in front of 80,000 assholes sitting in a stadium, as has been the case since 1896... Peace bro' and no hard feelings ! 🤟 🎸

This was without a doubt the BEST of the opening of the Olympic Games and this band making Metal stand out. This band was already known to metal lovers for their great activism, their lyrics, their simpolism, everything, and with this presentation they broke the INTERNET. For me, the charm of Gojira lies in how genuine they are, they do not want to pose as "bad", in addition to the archetype of their lyrics about real problems, and not about mutilations, murders, nuclear winters or things like that that are a constant of the gender. Added to all this is an enormous technique of interpretation, composition and a real and artistic declaration of principles, similar to bands like Tool, Mastodon, Soen, Devin Townsend Project/Strapping Young Lad or Meshuggah.
