In Portugal we don't choose between a ballad or an uptempo song... We choose quality. And we will never sell our soul to some trash pop song just to get a good result in a contest that, unfortunately, is more like a circus than a song competition.

Eurovision is a stage for songs, not specificaly uptempo songs. Especialy when they are all in English and seeming alike…. I love Portugal doing their stuff, not specificaly for Eurovision 👌❤️

Appreciating a song only by the rhythm and visuals of the participants denotes a lack of sensitivity to the arts and a lack of musical training. For me, "Grito" is more an Eletrónic POP song mixed with some acordds of Fado. It´s an introspective music and liric about strength and courage to move forward. For this reason, Iolanda said in her interviews "forgive one another, make peace not war" free yourself from the bonds, be reborn.... Appreciating a song only by the rhythm and visuals of the participants denotes a lack of sensitivity to the arts and a lack of musical training.

So you think Tattoo was an uptempo song? Euphoria was, Tattoo was a pop ballad, but its not a dance song 😂 there is space for everything, Jamala song was also a sad ballad about war. You might dislike ballads but saying they have no space in Eurovision is just wrong. Also you conveniently forgot we sent an uptempo song in 2023.

Hi, thanks for the reaction and I am glad you spoke in Turkish with subtitles (I like to hear the sound of different languages). I am Portuguese, I respect your opinion but disagree with it. What would the point of having a festival with just up-tempo songs? It would saturate most people's ears very quickly. Also, personally, I would love that each country would send a song always in their language (or in one of their official language in the case they have more than one) and something that clearly represents the country/the culture. There was a period where most countries where sending up-tempo pop songs in English void of context. What is the point of that?!

Portugal doesn't worry about sending songs to win, it sends what it likes. If your concern is not with quality but with winning, then not winning must be more painful, right? When they talk about upbeat songs, do they mean items for immediate consumption? Chewing gum, chew it, throw it away?

Hi :) First, Hug from Portugal :) for obvious reasons I think you need one :), Secondly, we like to send meaningful songs (Ballads or not), meaning, content, poetic and artistic (and simple algo, beacuse sometimes less is more). In this song, to understand the performance and appreaciate it, you have to do a little effort to understand what is all about, hope you do that. I like honesty, but I think at least your review was a little superficial maybe because the lack of some information to understand the song. Sharing some now, to help you understand and relate more to this universal pain and struglle that "GRITO" talks about. Here is the ANALYSIS and Lyrics, "Grito" (Scream) from Iolanda, Portugal choice: "Grito" (SCREAM), presents a compelling narrative of resilience, transformation, and self-empowerment. The song uses the metaphor of fire to symbolize the undying spirit of the protagonist, emphasizing themes of endurance, healing, and self-realization. Themes like: Vulnerability and Surrender: (sense of awareness and sensitivity, possibly hinting at the anticipation of change or the buildup of emotional energy. Speaks to letting go of control, a leap of faith into the unknown. This surrender isn't about giving up but about embracing the process of transformation). Liberation: "I want to let go of what left me hurt" is a clear desire to release past pains and burdens. This act of letting go is necessary for healing and moving forward. Renewal: for instance in asking the "mother star to make the day rise again" symbolizes a plea for rebirth, a fresh start, and the hope that comes with a new day. Transformation: "I transformed every verse of me" indicates profound personal growth and change. The individual is not the same as before; She has evolved through her experiences. Persistence: The repeated phrase "It still burns" emphasizes ongoing struggle and resilience. Despite challenges, her spirit and determination remain unquenched. Self-assertion: "Today I want to prove myself / That I can be whatever I want" reflects a strong sense of self-belief and ambition. She is determined to define her own identity and future. Forgiveness: "Forgive anyone who wanted to see me suffer" shows maturity and emotional liberation. Forgiveness is presented as a step towards healing and empowerment. Resilience: The imagery of being a "flame that still burns" throughout the song symbolizes resilience in the face of adversity. She continues to shine and endure, regardless of past pains and challenges. Self-empowerment: The journey from vulnerability to strength, from darkness to light, encapsulates the theme of self-empowerment. She actively transforms her pain into power, asserting control over her destiny. Healing and Growth: The song portrays healing as an active and dynamic process. It's about moving through pain, embracing change, and growing stronger in the process. Iolanda's 'Grito' (Scream), is a powerful anthem of perseverance, self-discovery, and empowerment. It encourages listeners to embrace their vulnerabilities, let go of the past, and ignite their inner strength to face the future with courage and hope. LYRICS Iolanda - "Grito" (Scream) [Verse 1] I heard, (I) felt, the body charging We continued like that, one and another, one and another, one and another I'm free falling, I'll let you know when I get there I surrender here, little by little [Pre-Chorus] Long strides, chained in the (race) start I want to let go of what left me hurt I ask the mother star to make the day rise again [Chorus] (It still [Ainda] burns [Arde]) I transformed every verse of me (It still burns) And surrender to the courage that still burns, still burns Hit the light on your chest and opens it I am a flame that still burns, still burns, still burns [Verse 2] Today I want to prove myself That I can be whatever I want (Whatever I want) Bring together those who love me at a table Forgive anyone who wanted to see me suffer They don't fool me (No, no) I'm every size (I am) I still remember when I was little (I was) the one who dreamed first [Pre-Chorus] Long strides, chained in the (race) start I want to let go of what left me hurt And I ask the mother star to make the day rise again [Chorus] (It still burns) I transformed every verse of me (It still burns) And surrender to the courage that still burns, still burns Hit the light on your chest and open it I am a flame that still burns, still burns, still burns I am a flame that still burns, still burns I am a flame that still burns, still burns Burn, burn, burn I transformed every verse of me And surrender to the courage that still burns, still burns Hit the light on your chest and open it I am a flame that still burns, still burns, still burns

Portugal is authentic. It is a country that does not pretend just to send something easy and superficial for a globalized and comercial taste. Portuguese people send to Eurovision what they like and not what it's supposed to be liked by people that prefer imitations of anglosaxonic pop music presented with fireworks. Nothing agains pop music. Everything against narrow minds that think that eurovision should be just limited to one kind of style: uptempo music.

Why just to have entertainment, but not art? Why just to have uptempo music, but not slow one? By the way, a lot of ballads have already won eurovision or had good scores (you would know it if you were more informed about eurovision history or previous scores). And, by the way, the best results of Portugal were with ballads and not with uptempo music. Salvador Sobral even has the record of the higher score in all eurovision history. Don't be so arrogant as to confuse your taste with the absolute truth.

Why do we send ballads? because we like it, because it is part of our culture (fado). In Portugal we consider ourselves an Atlantic country and not a Mediterranean country (the Mediterranean Sea does not touch the country anywhere). We are Latin, but very different from the Spanish, Cypriots, Italians, and happy with that, sending something similar to Chanel is completely stupid. Respect your opinion, but I prefer that my country sends something that represents me and not another version of a Swedish pop song
