Sarah, Bass will be prominent in Iron Maiden songs since it has one of the best bass players in rock/metal and founder of the band, Steve Harris. When you are starting out new with Iron Maiden, the best way to describe it is your "Maiden Voyage". You'll really know when you get to Rime of the Ancient Mariner.

Wow, it must be over 30 years since I've heard either of these songs! I'd forgotten just how raw early Maiden sound, especially with their original vocalist, Paul DiAnno. They don't really find their signature sound until the third album (Number Of The Beast) when Bruce Dickinson joins as vocalist and the songs become less punky and more operatic. You're in for a treat as a bass fan though - Steve Harris is one of the best bass players in the business and his bass is always highlighted in the mix.

Killers ought to have been included for a total of the 6 during the classic period of: 81-‘86. Many might also wish to further include: Seventh Seventh Son and Fear Of The Dark (8 albums).

I started with the debut first album as a teenager, so this hits home with me.. Their 2nd album Killers, is their best album IMO, and then Iron Maiden's 3rd release was a Live EP called Maiden Japan, which is outstanding (full concert is now available). I also was fortunate to see them in 1981 opening for Judas Priest in a small venue on the Killers tour, which was mind-blowing.. Clive Burr Rules!!.

I find many comments highlighting Killers above all others, I don't know if it will be the best. My favorite is the first, and maybe Powerslave will follow (mostly because of the production and technical quality of the band, Bruce's voice doesn't appeal to me very much)

@dariio4882 True. I do love the debut album as much as Killers.. I mean Side 1 with Running Free and Phantom Of the Opera is just tremendous! And I agree about Paul, who I prefer over Bruce, mainly on vocal style..

Was about to say the same thing. I used to have to cycle 12miles to the local town to buy my albums and singles back then. Sanctuary was a single with the brilliant live versions of Drifter and I've got the Fire on the B side. The newer version of that live Drifter was over dubbed to remove the "Oh you bunch of Wa*****!"

@snowblindoz Yeah.. that's cool. I remember picking up the Women In Uniform, 12 inch single around that time.. That may be the one with the Live "Phantom Of the Opera" on the flip side.. Those early singles were so awesome!

I thought that was so adorable, your cat literally wanted to say hi to everyone as well and to show it's cute little face. We just got to show some love to our pets and yes they deserve it. Pick some great iron maiden albums to do a reaction too. My main two favorite iron maiden albums will always be fear of the dark and somewhere in Time. I will be honest here, I think that fear of the dark should had been a solo album instead of a iron maiden album. Just doesn't have that iron maiden feel or sound to it but still a great one to listen too. Thank you for all your reactions that you do for, I do appreciate it a lot

Glad to see those 5, will miss Killers but Somewhere in Time is good - it's the first album with synth guitars. First album had, as well as Killers, a more punk sound. This album lineup had Paul DiAnno - vocals, Steve Harris - Bass, Dave Murray - Lead guitar, Dennis Stratton - rhythm guitar, Clive Burr - Drums. First album lacked good production quality. Prowler is about stalking women, Sanctuary was not originally the second song but second on the 1998 remastered edition. Sanctuary is about running from the law. Prowler '88 with Bruce singing is really good.

As others have mentioned, I was in on Iron Maiden from the start and I saw them twice with Paul on vocals and 5 times with Bruce and they had 'it' right from the start, just killing it the first time opening for Judas Priest. Do this whole album (and in time their catalog) and enjoy the ride, they set quite a pace and will always be in my rotation. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎸🎶

Sanctuary was not on the debut album, it was in a single and was shoehorned in a reissue of the debut album

Could you check out the band "Poets of the Fall" and their music video "Carnival of Rust" They are a super underrated rock band from Finland and "Carnival of Rust" is their biggest international hit by a huge margin. Also the music video was chosen as the best Finnish music video ever made!

Hi Sarah. You made a good selection of Maiden albums for your Maiden voyage. Starting with their debut is fair enough as it gives you a taste of where they started with Paul DiAnno on vocals. It also will show the huge leap in sound and songwriting they made by Number Of The Beast. Of the two DiAnno albums Iron Maiden is the better one. DiAnno is the weakest of their 3 singers by far and the some of their early songs were comparatively basic like these 2. We do the truth here. Definitely much better to come!😁🤘🤘

Personally, I would swap "Killers" with "Iron Maiden." Same vocalist, but a much better album. Perhaps a poll for your community?
