This is a much better translation that sounds more natural in English: How sad it was to say 'farewell' Que triste es decirnos 'adios' when we adored each other most Cuando nos adorabamos mas even the swallow emigrated Hasta la golondrina emigro foreseeing the end Presagiando el final How sad looks everything without you Que triste luce todo sin ti the seas leave the beaches Los mares de la playa se van and the colors are turning grey (in Spanish, it literally says the colors are being tinted the color of grey but gotta keep naturalness in English) Se tiñen los colores de gris everything is loneliness now (in Spanish it says 'today' but the meaning of the author stays with either word) Hoy todo es soledad I don’t know whether I’ll see you again No se si vuelva a verte despues I don’t know what’ll happen to my life No se de que mi vida sera without the blue star of your being Sin el bello azul de tu ser which doesn’t shed its light on me anymore Que no me alumbra ya I want to relish my pain today (you can even say delight, enjoy, but the literal translation from Spanish is 'savour') Hoy quiero saborear mi dolor I’m not asking for compassion nor pity No pido compasion ni piedad the story of this love has been written La historia de este amor se escribio for eternity para la eternidad 'How sad' everyone says that I am Que triste todos dicen que soy that I am always speaking of you que siempre estoy hablando de ti they don’t know that thinking of your love, of your love no saben que pensando en tu amor, en tu amor (is how) I’ve been able to live, I’ve been able to live he podido ayudarme a vivir, he podido ayudarme a vivir Oh oh oh oh oh ohhhhhhhhhhhhh I want to relish my pain today (you can even say delight, but the literal translation from Spanish is 'savour') Hoy quiero saborear mi dolor I’m not asking for compassion nor pity No pido compasion ni piedad the story of this love has been written La historia de este amor se escribio for eternity para la eternidad How sad say everyone that I am Que triste todos dicen que soy that I am always speaking of you que siempre estoy hablando de ti they don’t know that thinking of your love, of your love no saben que pensando en tu amor, en tu amor (is how) I’ve been able to live, I’ve been able to live he podido ayudarme a vivir, he podido ayudarme a vivir

Y saborear no sería lo mismo que disfrutar. Saborear representa percibir el sabor sea este el que sea. Amargo o dulce.
@gimi23954 жыл бұрын

The author writed this song when his mother passed away, and about the "enjoy my pain" part, what I think he was trying to say is that he didn´t want anyone came to try to cheer him up or let it go, since, out of respect to her mother´s memory, he wants to let himself be swallowed by his pain becuase is the way to hold on to her memory, to have her face, her touch, her smell, her voice attached to him for just a little bit longer, to survive this life with her absence.

The song is not a pathologically sad song. It represents a normal process of grieving. The composer wrote it about the loss of his own mother. He was not "enjoying" his pain, he was "savoring/experiencing willingly" his pain. (The translation is too literal and not understood the same way in English as in Spanish) At the end he was proclaiming that although the lost loved one is no longer lighting his way, that thinking of the love that was lost helps him go on with his life.

In English savor, taste and enjoy have a similar meaning and in this context, yes, ENJOY fits. You can't translate words but meanings in songs and literature.
@gimi23954 жыл бұрын
@@Caprizonica Exactly. Translations are not meant to be literal. If that is the case, it doesnt convey the same meaning and it sounds like a translation... which sounds unnatural. What *LX is saying equals to how in Spanish we say "I have hunger" but in English we say "I'm hungry." Yes, we get the idea, but it sounds unnatural in English.

Nice choice, gotta say although here in Mexico he's one of the big ones I don't hear him that much, but I love his songs, and yes, a lot of them are kinda sad but with a good message in there. Other classics from him are songs like "almohada" and "la nave del olvido", and I could also recommend you to listen to Juan Gabriel's "hasta que te conoci" for another powerful song from a Mexican. P. S. This song you reacted was from 1970 if I recall correctly, from an international contest in which he got third place. Love your reactions man, keep it up
