Because the bass was turned down. J However not off and I've heard others say they can hear the bass and I can't.

I can only hear it because my tablet has an amazing 10 band EQ and bass booster in the headphones. If I leave everything on normal settings it's mostly lost.

Nice - the frayed end of sanity is coming up - check out the riff that is hidden under the solo - goes about 1 minute - gives an all new appreciation for how good these guys actually are - it is an A+ grade riff for any other band and Metallica just play over the top of it

The Shortest Straw is really a showcase of Lars drum skills

Yes, this was their first album after Cliff passed. IDK if you know but it was a bus accident in Europe. The bus driver hit some black ice and it crashed the Cliff didn't make it. he was sleeping and never knew what happened.😢😭

Not related to the song, but on the night that cliff died, they pulled straws to decide who got to sleep in the bed with the bed-length window. Kirk actually drew it at first but they did a do-over and it ended up being Cliff. He slept with that window partially opened, but was just opened enough for him to roll out of it when the bus tipped.

according to kirk in the behind the music documentary on metallica they drew cards

It took me 2 years to learn AJFA on guitar note for note, I play it every day

One thing you’ll always notice is the drums are rushing. It’s just the way Lars plays lol. He plays the snare on the offbeat instead

I really can't wait to you try and unwrap harvester of sorrow and dyers eve. Both just mean Metallica... them doing what they do best at such a high level.

For me, Eye Of The Beholder is one of the most underrated songs in Metallica's entire back-catalogue, and you're right when you say it's more relevant today than when it was written, especially now we have things like social media where everyone can share their opinions on anything they want. Shortest Straw is great, although I really, really hate the second guitar solo. I'm not sure why since I'm usually a huge fan of Kurt's solos, but there's something about that second solo that just falls flat for me. The first solo is 🔥 though.
@njldst20072 жыл бұрын
Agreed about the 2nd Shortest Straw solo. That's one of the first examples of what would unfortunately become the standard Kirk formula of lazy pentatonic wah shredding which he still hangs on to till now

Sadly Metallica was predicting 2022 in 1988

Two more good song from Metallica. Just once again light on the bass, due to the mix and Ulrich. I rarely go back a listen to these songs. Eye of the Beholder - the title does not appear in the lyrics. "Eye Of The Beholder" comes from the phrase "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder," meaning that people see things in different ways. It's about freedom and it is only as true as you perceive it. It protests against the restricted limit of freedom by the law. The Shortest Straw - The song's lyrics deal with the blacklisting of American politicians with alleged ties to communism during the Red Scare of the 1950s. The title "The Shortest Straw" may also be a reference to the death of bassist Cliff Burton - Burton was given his fatal sleeping bunk by pulling the shortest straw in a game of chance.

Your Shortest Straw reference to Cliff Burton is not correct, that's not how it happened. They drew cards and Cliff wanted Kirks bunk.
@metalmark12142 жыл бұрын
@@freedomsnotfreefreedomsnot3270 Same difference, Cliff drew the Ace of Spades, if he hadn't got the high card and chose the bunk, Kirk would be dead and Cliff would still be alive.
@freedomsnotfreefreedomsnot32702 жыл бұрын
@@metalmark1214 Why didn't you just say that in the first place? I don't think the song is about the events that led to Cliffs death.

@@freedomsnotfreefreedomsnot3270 Wow…lighten up Francis…he said “in a game of chance” could be cards, straws, Rock Paper Scissors…the point was made.

I’ve never heard it as a reference to Cliffs death though, I could be wrong, I have to check up on that

Eye of the Beholder was as relevant when it was written as it is today because every generation skews reality to fit their fantasy.

How did James hetfield know that we'd be dealing with in 2022 in 1988.
@dg32582 жыл бұрын
You need to do their 1st album, Kill 'Em All to see where they started, then do Megadeth. If you don't know the story, Dave Mustaine produced many of the songs on their 1st album then got kicked out of Metallica, and formed Megadeth. Thx God he got kicked out, otherwise, no Megadeth. 😉

@@SarahraeLivingLife nice, going in order. I think they go away from their strength (thrash), AJFA being their last good legit album. Just my opinion, maybe you'll see it differently if you keep going.
