I was initially confused by your question about ammonites in the lyrics because I'd assumed it was just about turning from a fairly common animal into a fossil that anyone might be happy to find. Then I looked it up and realized there may be more than one possible answer, because the ammolite may be a manyfold symbol for transformation in "The Code" - fitting the theme of both the lyrics, the video, and Nemo's own presentation. :) Ammonite shells are segmented into a number of chambers which are formed as the ammonite grows (taking some time). The soft ammonite body only occupies the newest, biggest chamber while the older chambers are partitioned off with thin walls, pumped free of water via a tubule extending from the ammonite's body, and filled with air instead. This allowed many ammonite species to float in the ocean waters, regulate their buoyancy, and even become motile themselves (i.e. swim instead of just float). Possible reference in the lyrics: "Everything is in balance, everything's light." (Perhaps also: "Let me taste the lows and highs." Buoyancy.) Ammonite shells were also coated with nacre (also known as mother-of-pearl), some of them sporting beautiful iridescent colors. When ammonites died, they usually piled up at the ocean bottom. In the right circumstances (involving the shells being covered by tons of volcanic ash and compressed for a long time), the ammonite shells turned into what we now harvest as the gem ammolite. Possible reference in the lyrics: "It's bigger than me, I'm getting so hyped." (Perhaps also: "Let me feel that burning fright." Compression produces lots of heat.) How did a Eurovision song reaction turn into a combined biology and geology lesson!? Or perhaps it's just easy to find symbolism once you suspect there may be some... This is fun at any rate and elevates a great song which I already have in second place in my rankings!

Valid thesis❤
@HerrHaque10 ай бұрын
@@kevmagill5163 Thanks! :) But it now occurs to me that, in a much less oblique reference, Jules Verne's (Captain) Nemo commands the submarine Nautilus and strongly opposes oppression and tyranny. Nautiluses and ammonites are pretty similar in appearance. I can't quickly find much in the lyrics to dig into that possible allusion, though, because I only have superficial knowledge of Verne's Nemo novels.
@John_Weiss9 ай бұрын
Loving your analysis. I didn't get it at all until I read your comment. I just figured it was the usual Eurovision non-native-English-speaker-word-salad English lyrics that we so often get.
@HerrHaque9 ай бұрын
@@John_Weiss Great to hear, thanks! It may just be that my AP English teacher from way back when has successfully conditioned me to suspect symbolism everywhere, but the ammonite reference is so specific (and repeated in the song) that it's sure to mean something. (But then again, I love listening to Brian Eno who reportedly often wrote lyrics focusing more on what sounds good when sung than on them making sense ... and it's really fun to try to read symbolism from his songs. ;) )

Omg I'll never forget the moment this dropped because I remember getting the notification and thinking "ugh do I really care about the Swiss entry this year and staying up for it?" I've been such a hater of them in the past, particularly last year and 2022 and I got so so mad when they got into the final over my favs 😂😅 But I decided to stay up and watch the premiere and my god this hit me like a tone of bricks in the best way! This is my number one! I love the video, the song and how bonkers it is, but with a great message, I love the fashion too but I also agree I hated the shoes too 😂 but loved the tulle skirt. ❤ I never thought I'd see a day where I stan Switzerland 😅🫶

This is my favourite! I love it so much ❤❤ As for the ammonites, I think that line refers to how you can break open certain stones and find an ammonite inside.

@c-ronics10 ай бұрын
The Swiss entry this year does a great job balancing two strong attributes: On one hand a strong message from the artist (it's hard to imagine anyone else performing that same song), and on the other hand being very enjoyable and entertaining for 99 % of the audience who don't care about the message. I worry about staging though. Switzerland has always been very intellectual and conceptual in their designs, up to the point where there was nearly nothing physical left on stage to look at - leaving all up to the phantasy of the audience. I really hope they go outside their box this year and make their hands dirty, buld a moving train on stage, perform 10 costume changes, hire crazy background dancers, etc, etc.
@HerrHaque10 ай бұрын
I agree with all you wrote! I've started wondering if the staging in Malmö can reasonably recreate the madness of the music video. The video is such a great complement to this song that I worry I might actually find myself underwhelmed by whatever Switzerland can pull off on stage in May...

Some countries do a national selection/final through a contest and some countries internally select. The ones that usually produce and release music videos as their debut are the ones that were internally selected. The stage performances are taken from national finals. Sometimes national final songs also get a music video produced as well like Malta and Finland. It just depends on whether the country's participating broadcaster wants to spend their budget on having that additional MV in additional to their national final performance. Hope that clarifies things for you. 😊
