The most magical thing about Marko and Floor working together was their ability to support each other perfectly as necessary for each song, regardless of who is lead and who is backing. It leads to some absolutely beautiful harmonies, complementary alternating lines, and breathtaking emotional impact.

Marko is a legend! It was a sad day when his resignation from Nightwish came! Nightwish then lost a good bassist, singer and guitarist. All three in one person ... BTW. Last year, Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath was interviewed. He was asked whose cover version he considers the best of the Black Sabbath Dio era. He replied immediately: Marko Hietala. A little silence and he added "Marko is a good singer". So, if the godfather of the metal says so, we can believe it. If you’re making a video of Marko’s Masked Singer, I’d recommend doing the songs in chronological order. That’s when you see that despair in the panelists grow as they try to guess who’s behind the mask. It’s fun to follow, they even suspect the person has been changed behind the mask! : D Because one person can't change their music style that often!

It was because Marco went higher than usual and she had to adjust her voice in an instant. They know each other so well and she loves when the others does something unexpected - and so do Tuomas. Tuomas says this is live - it has to be done live if it fits the moment. And they can all handle it 👍

Another great reaction! This is one of the few songs not written by Tuomas but was written by Marko. I think he decided it wasn't a good fit for his band Tarot so he brought it to Nightwish and Tuomas loved it. Floor laughing at the end because Marko sang the ending vocal louder then normal and she had to adjust her harmonies on the fly. Please checkout While Your Lips are Still Red from Wembley. Another beautiful ballad with Marko. Very emotional song about innocent young love with gorgeous harmonies by Floor.

I agree with you. Everyone has an opinion, it shouldn’t matter what the next person’s is. We all matter. Your Sherpa! 😂 you must be talking about Gabriel! He is Papa Nightwish after all! I mean, that’s what I call him anyways! This is my favorite Marko (doing lead vocals) song. He surely says here with the Islander….”oh you all think I can’t sing….WATCH THIS”!!! RARRRRWWRRR! He cracks me up! I relate to this song so much it ain’t even funny. A fun fact about Marko Hietala is he first played the guitar. That’s why he plays “the beast” like that! I am adding Marko to my Floor tattoo. I was supposed to go last week. My dad passed away, so I just couldn’t go. I know one thing about Nightwish….They don’t make me forget the painful things I’m going though….THEY HELP ME GET THROUGH Whatever I’m going through. They have the abilities to ❤️‍🩹 HEAL OUR HEARTS and even some of our SOULS!!! If you truly let NW anyways!!!! I know you got lost in that moment bc you didn’t even hit the pause button once!!! The mood of the song….YESSS! I was waiting for it!!! IT TAKES YOU PLACES!!! NIGHTWISH CAN TELEPORT YOU TO A MAGICAL LAND!!! 😭 Nightwish is the ONLY band my dad didn’t yell at me to turn down 😭 apparently, he knew how much I love them. I miss my Dad every day….but NW will get me through it. You see, even though I have a channel here as well, I am quite the loner. I’m honestly working on that. I could just watch NW, but I really do enjoy watching reactions every morning. I haven’t watched any since last Tuesday. I just couldn’t. I’ve watched a few today. I’m glad I picked this one bc you’ve described NW so well. Tuomas IS an artist, you’re right! Marko is metal is also right!!! Yes he won the Masked singer Finland! Did you see him do Gangsta’s Paradise yet?!!! Maybe you should give it a go!!! He totally transformed his voice btw! He hid who he was PERFECTLY! He did escape metal for a few moments! It was epic! Anyways, great reaction again!!! I appreciate your opinion on this song! One of the best IMHO!!!

Thank you for taking the time to leave me such kind words! I am sorry you're dealing with weight. I lost my wife in 2015 and I always say, "I'll never get over it, but I need to get past it.", which is why I started this channel. Friends noticed I had been sort of hiding for 7 years and were encouraging me to get back on the mic. I'm still a bit "off", but I'm finding a rhythm, it just takes time and work. My issue is sort of opposite, in that I can't really listen to 80% of my music because of the connections. But I'm trying!! And I too am a bit of a loner, although I work with crowds and audiences, I often find myself sitting alone, but I'm weird! Or Nashville has worn me down after 20 years of going out every other night and being "social" for a paycheck. I have enjoyed my journey into NW and am trying my best to keep up with everyone's suggestions, but I do have a day job and 2 kids so I do them when I can. The past 14 years have been rough and recently somewhat settled, so I do plan on being more regular with these posts. Plus I literally have no idea how to run a YT channel!! DM me on SM if you have any pointers!! Thank you again for reaching out and commenting! Cheers from Nashville! Eric

"Papa Nightwish" ? come on now , interesting that those who place him in such a light are mostly newer fans who dont know any better, Gab himself is a relatively new fan who appointed himself with the help of those misguided newer fans , no reactor should be lead to believe they need to follow "one" fans NW narrative or song recommendations, or that the fan base is represented by one person ,all the fan base should have equally valid input.

Fun fact: John Barley Corn must die is a old English/Scottish folk song. This quote from Wikipedia sums it up well "John Barleycorn, the song's protagonist, is a personification of barley and of the alcoholic beverages made from it: beer and whisky. In the song, he suffers indignities, attacks, and death that correspond to the various stages of barley cultivation, such as reaping and malting. " Just listened to Traffics version and they did a phenomenal job in keeping to the tone and feel of the original, strongly agree everyone should check it out.

One of the best parts of this song is how it came about: Tuomas heard Marco playing the melody during some downtime and loved it. But when he asked Marco what it was, the response was "It's just something I've been working on, but it wouldn't work for [my band] Tarot", so Tuomas was like "Well we could do it with Nightwish if you'd like?" So they did; Marco finished writing the melody, Tuomas wrote the lyrics, and the rest is history.

There's a very good official video for the studio version with Anette. It might be a good introduction to her (although Marko still sings most of the song) A lot of "fans" disrespect her abilities, but at the time so was the perfect singer for the band, and is on two of their best albums. She just wasn't prepared for their insane (200 plus dates) touring schedule and her health, singing, and probably sanity, suffered.
@alfisdrake
@alfisdrake 2 жыл бұрын
Anette is a great singer in her own right, but she was unlucky enough to get sandwiched between one of the best and most beloved female metal voices ever and who is quite possibly the best female singer ever. Tuomas wrote some of his best compositions for her (Storytime, Song of Myself, Ghost River, 7 Days to the Wolves, to name a few). One of the reasons fans (new ones in particular) disregard Anette (and even Tarja) in favor of Floor is because she did something none of them could do before her, she unleashed Tuomas' talents so they could fly higher than ever before. When you get to songs from the new album (like "Noise," "Shoemaker," and "How's the Heart") you will get what I'm saying.

Stories taking you out of reality and taking you oj a journey is a returning subject with nightwish by the way. My walden, live at Wembley (rather than Tampere) is a prime example. Wembley gives you a little introduction by Troy worth listening to. The documentary "48 hours to learn the setlist" has a very small moment but utterly mindblowing. Preparatory to going on stage the band goes into a huddle and Troy cites the last lines of Shelley's Prometheus unbound: To suffer woes which Hope thinks infinite; To forgive wrongs darker than death or night; To defy Power, which seems omnipotent; To love, and bear; to hope till Hope creates From it’s own wreck the thing it contemplates; Neither to change, not falter, nor repent; This, like thy glory, Titan, is to be Good, great and joyous,beautiful and free; This is alone Life, Joy, Empire, and Victory left me utterly speechless...

Just FYI, the not subbed part goes like this (more or less): Marko: if I sing the chorus, will you sing along with me? Crowd: yeees! Marko: will you? Crowd: YEEES! Marko: ok, it's a deal then. 👋🇮🇹🖖

A Finn gave it to me as this but said there are a multitude of ways to translate it, it all comes to the same though: "If I play the chorus, you will sing along? You will? OK, then we'll do it!"

What I love most about this band is they care so much for one another and willingly let the other members shine and have their moment. Just seeing Floor clapping and having a proud mother smile at the end of the song is heart warming. I remember Marko encouraging Floor during the very first song of the Wacken set. Both Marko and Emppu checking on Toumas at Wembley during the Poet song. Even letting Troy have a big moment at Wembley. The band has get harmony and it makes the music the best it can possibly be.

Gosh I love this song so much. Marko is such a good guitarist and singer. Their songs trigger always all kinds of emotions. It is a shame that Americans don't listen to European music that much and Nightwish plays for the smallest audience in the USA. Even in South and Middle America they are so famous. Time for Americans (I am generalizing) to come out of their bubble and look and hear across their border. Thank you sir for your wonderful reaction

I have downloaded five albums so far and I’m shocked that every time I try a new song I think I couldn’t POSSIBLY like it as much as what I’ve heard before. But No! EVERY. SONG. IS. BEAUTIFUL. HEARTFILLING. EMOTIONALLY ENCOMPASSING.

This is such an amazing song! This one brings tears to my eyes and I get goosebumps every stinking time. Another great reaction! One wonderful thing about Nightwish is that there is so much variety in their body of work. All are different, but they all have this unmistakable element that one immediately recognizes as Nightwish. From all I've read and watched of them, they are all genuinely kind and amazing human beings. That makes their music speak to me even more. Their harmonies are always amazing, but this one...with Floor on backing, it just immediately grabs at my soul. There are so many amazing tracks I can't wait for you to hear! I'll say it again, 7 Days To The Wolves, Yours Is An Empty Hope (these two live at Wembley), Song of Myself (Wacken 2013), Slaying The Dreamer (live in Bueinos Aires), just to name a few. One thing I might add here...I've seen many comments suggesting While Your Lips Are Still Red. That is such a beautiful song in all aspects, and another with Marco in charge. But, the subject matter might be difficult for you. It's about the loss of a love. After telling us about your wife, and what little we have discussed here in comments, that one might be rough for you. Just keep that in mind. It's such a beautiful song, but I wanted you to be aware so you could choose when you were good to react to it. You could also take a super journey and tackle The Greatest Show On Earth - live from Tampere (same show as The Islander). That one you should watch through the credits to the very end. That's one of their longest songs and it has so many little Easter eggs in it. I think you'll hear most of them. Shoemaker (the official lyric video) is another experience - with Floor going full opera in one portion of it. The band hasn't yet released any live performances from their newest album Human:||:Nature. Right now, the only lives for those songs are fan shot videos. But, all songs do have a lyric video, except for Noise. That song has a film clip for a video. All great. The lyric videos are awesome bc you can really take in what they are saying. If you want to check out a different band, and you've not heard them already, try Rule of Nines by Spiritbox. There's the official music video, or a live one take studio video. As always, I appreciate your thoughts and opinions on music! Hope you and your boys are doing more than well! G-d Bless you guys!

I know you're going to get 2.4k comments, but I feel I have to comment in this moment with you. I'm probably a little older, 61, and have seen and heard what I thought was everything worth seeing and hearing. When I stumbled on to Nightwish, it was seismic. All of my experience to that point couldn't prepare me for the awakening (Great song by Unleash the Archers) I felt hearing Ghost Love Score with Floor opening the heavens. It was truly a spiritual event. I won't liken it to a religious experience. It was larger than that. Every time I hear GLS I weep. And I've probably played it a thousand times in the past 2 years. I have to skip it if I'm in the car. And the best part is almost every Nightwish song does the same thing. SONG OF MYSELF, EVER DREAM, HIGH HOPES...they all bring me to tears. The emotional exchange between the artists (musicians is too limited to describe these performers) and their audience is palpable. The compositions that Tuomas imagines and the life given to them by the band is legit 'perfect'. The relationship between the artists, the audience and each other, the holy Trinity if you will, is nothing short of 'magical'. And the translation to a live performance actually enhances the experience. The sound is better, the song is better and the artists seemingly perform better. How can that be except something 'supernatural' occurs when these magicians take the stage? Of all the recordings I've seen of this band, even when the production is below par, their interactions and their collective energies are operating as if they shared consciousness. We're only privileged to see them on stage and occasionally a glimpse behind the scenes or the infrequent interview... but the hundreds of hours of writing, rehearsing and rewriting and rehearsing and rewriting and perfecting their art must be a labor of love. Because we only see the excellence they share, and only when Tuomas says it's ready. The genius at work is next level $hit!

Marko Hietala composed The Islander. Released 2008. The official music video, like all NW official music videos, is bonkers amazing. Featuring Marco, Annette Olzon, Eppu, Jukka. Featuring Troy Donockley who was not officially a member, and the London Philharmonic. Troy plays the Uilleann Pipes, with the Bouzouki and Tin Pipes on background. Per wiki, Finish Lapland meets Salvador Dali. Sorry for your loss. Heartfelt and thoughtful.

This song has lyrics that I think inspired the virtual venue used for the 2 Epic 1 3/4 hr ea virtual concerts at the end of May 2021 in a whimsical Virtual world containing the venue pub location called The Islanders Arms. It is a Steam Punk inspired building with a lighthouse at "the end of the world" . The airship in the world is named "The Spirit of Punk". It arrives to start the show and leaves afterward. Each concert had a slightly different set list (mix of older and new songs) based on the Human:: Nature tour that got put off from 2020 until recently in 2021/2022, due to the pandemic. Over 150,000 people from 108 countries (for the first concert) paid to attend live. I saw both of them. Truly magical, but unfortunately without Marco, and the large audience interaction, but it is nice to see them up close making their beautiful music. Nightwish Thank You / behind the scenes look at the making of these Virtual Concerts (They were only available to paid attendees, and only recently officially released to stream in some countries). kzbin.info/www/bejne/sKi5Yo2HlK9pnqM A Virtual Tour of the inside of the Virtual Venue: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mpjNeIV4bZyEqNE

This song was written by Marco for his band Tarot, but didn't fit the rest of the album so he approached Tuomas to perform it with NW. This performance is spectacular. To compliment it, I'd suggest viewing the original concept video in your time. The imagery supports the undertone. Sits somewhere between HG Wells and HP Lovecraft. Also band playing around the fire? Fire playing around the band in this one :P . And Troy's first appearance in NW.
