Once again a good video! And Gene Simmons ... yes, I agree with you about him! When you hear Tuomas' thoughts and see, for example, the links I have put below ... According to Tuomas, this song is inspired by the 1982 children's film "The Snowman". One of the songs in the film, Nightwish, also made a cover ("Walking In The Air") in "Tarja Era." In Tuomas' own words: : "How would it feel to take a midnight flight with a snowman through the most wondrous landscapes, like in the classic animated Yuletide film? The meaning of our very existence is created though stories, tales and imagination. They are at the very core of humanity." I think that is very beautifully thought out! If you ever have time to look at these, they will give you more information about Tuomas' music. Tuomas ' thoughts on the song "Storytime", video length 3:18 minutes. NIGHTWISH - About "Storytime" (OFFICIAL INTERVIEW) kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZnXZYB9m6aBn7s Album recording moments in London, video length 5:18 minutes and latter 2:10 minutes NIGHTWISH - Angel Studios, London (OFFICIAL BEHIND THE SCENES) kzbin.info/www/bejne/fpTbm36iisidjtE IMAGINAERUM - Making Of The Album (OFFICIAL BEHIND THE SCENES) kzbin.info/www/bejne/i6S4aIxtn5yBpdk When I watch those videos, my respect for Tuomas just grows. When I know his music-making process, he first hears the music he composes in his head and then he tries to write it. Watching those videos, I wonder how he can hear all that! But, as we know, he's a genius ...

Thank you, Eric, for a wonderful post! Living in Las Vegas, NV for over 30 years has exposed me to just about every level of entertainment out there. Needless to say that I'm not easily impressed. My first indirect exposure to Nightwish was viewing Floor on the show Beste Zangers when she sang "Phantom" with Mr Henk Poort. A commenter said that watching her with Nightwish was a must. Truth be told I didn't know if Nightwish was a song, concert or band. I had never heard of them. This was at the start of COVID a couple of years ago. I turned on Ghost Love Score (Wacken) and got chills and even shed a little tear. In my 70+ years I've never heard or experienced a more talented group. Floor completes this band, period! All their front women are very talented but Floor adds that intangible "something". I could "ramble" on more but the other commenters cover it all pretty well. I've "subbed" to your channel from the start and always look forward to your posts. Thanks again. Peace and long life to you.

in the documentary "48 hours to learn the setlist" there is a peculiar moment when anette fell sick and the band was under pressure to cancel the gig; There was an alternative by using the singers from kamelot in a pinch; So what do they do? Troy and Tuomas go out on the stage, and ask the fans... : what do you want? your money back or a show that will be ... challenged. The fans wanted a show and they got one. respect the fans and they love you right back. and nightwish got that down to a tee. they respect their fans, and don't take them for granted. I guess that goes back to Gene Simmons and the crucial part in the band-fan relationship he clearly missed.

As you said, Nightwish (Tuomas) does this for us, it helps us to "make sense" of what we feel, of what we are. That's why we enjoy the moments of their lives "stolen" for us in interviews and documentaries, because it helps us to "put a face" on what we love in them. By the way, I am very happy that you have an inner desire to document yourself about the band members, you will find many "pearls". I liked your remark about how Floor "slightly widens the frame" of the composition. You don't even know how right you are - and the Wacken 2013 concert is full of such moments. For example here, when Floor sings classical / operatic over the choir, at 11:35 in your reaction :) As in Romanticide, the final double vocal slide .. And so on..

Storytime and Romanticide were the two songs that truly hooked me into Nightwish, both so different from each other but both brilliant 😎🤘🔥 I know I keep suggesting this because I know you will really dig it…check out the show opener for Wembley “Shudder before the beautiful” a brilliantly constructed song (from the first Floor album), has energy, groove, build ups, pyro, drama, soaring vocals, Toumas duelling with Empuu…Marco (for a little bit) and Floor! Literally everything Nightwish….have I sold it yet? CONCUR
@kimfabritiusdetengnagel20382 жыл бұрын
Excellent reaction Eric, and it is because you dive deep into the Nightwish story and background, to get the full picture of what's going on in the songs / stories - and why! (And that kind of knowledge is putting Simmons in the right perspective.) I am pretty sure that Tuomas and Marko had a dream, when they called Floor at the end of September 2012. Both Tuomas's writing and Marko and the rest of the guy's behavior and confidence changed - and so did Floor. Even the technicians in Nightwish had their own positive experiences with her - both on stage and during their work-out hours, early in the mornings, where Floor joined them, while the rest of the band were sleeping. She really got "home" all the way. Tuomas's perspectives in his writing changed, due to Troy's and Floor's influence - the genius inside him let loose (Troy introduced Tuomas to Richard Dawkins and Sagan). And as you say - they are all equal, these 6 people. But they enhance each other by using their skills and talents to add something more to each other, they all evolve to another level, when they join forces.

If you watch videos from the tour - particularly the Buenos Aires concert - you can see the band's joy at how the fans are reacting to their last-minute replacement singer. Keep in mind that they're playing in front of a sell-out crowd that had paid to see Anette, and here they are showing up with a substitute vocalist. They had to be anxious - but she starts out knocking every number out of the park, and soon enough the fans are chanting her name.

Gotta love Marko's intro, the tone is amazing. Also love Tuomas' use of brass. Then there are the little pauses followed by the run down. There are many interviews and documentaries and each has a little nugget or two buried in it 😀
@NickBR572 жыл бұрын
Sorry, thought of something else... First, you often talk of storytelling in Nightwish and I think the key lyric in this song is "the source of all life is a limitless chest of tales". As research has shown that memories are not stored as such but are recreated from elements every time they are told, hence slight variation every time, the number of tales is literally limitless. Secondly, I am fascinated by the idea of synaesthesia: do your colours relate to tone (clearly important to you as you often talk about it) or texture (you often mention "thickness") or maybe pitch (could be wrong but Scriabin was synaesthetic and I _think_ his was related to notes)?

I truly believe this is one of the best live recordings of a rock concert of all time. The Wacken show in general and this song specifically. Yes, the song is brilliant. It's Toumas, so that's almost a given. And yes, they all fit in there in that pocket with no ego, any of them. But I think it's down to the energy between them and between them and the crowd. They look so happy, all of them. There's a second where Toumas just have a satisfied smile on his face - and it makes my heart happy. He knows that this is going pretty well - and boy is he right. And then there's that part where there's just a see of people clapping and several bodies being carried on top of that sea. This song is like everything great about live music done right condensed into one. Thanks for another great reaction.

I've been a Nightwish fan since Oceanborn because I love symphonic metal. Anything from Scandinavia and Netherlands. But I don't think Rock is dead here in the States entirely, you just have to look a little harder to find it. Some of the best music and musicians in the world come from right here in the radio pop infested United States. Tool and Dream Theatre come to mind, Alice in Chains, etc... This is why I love reactors like you. I've discovered so much good music from watching reaction channels, international AND domestic. So keep up the good work, sir. Sadly, Mr Simmons (much respect) needs to maybe dig a little deeper thru the weeds and he will definitely find superb bands and music that he can look up to, right here in the U.S.

🇺🇸 Hi Erik, I just found you. First, FUCK Gene Simmons! Metal is not dead. The greatest metal is Symphonic Metal! I'm 47, I'am part of the Nightwish Army, also a rhythm guitarist. Nightwish, Epica, Sabaton and many more. The origin of Symphonic Metal is in the air. Where did it come from. For me, I always thot and still do- is from Dream Theater in the early 90s. I think it was in 91 or 92. I was in Pennsylvania at the time. But, I do know it goes further back. It started in rock with symphonies. This was without distortion. Not the same of course. I have to check out your channel and see what you have covered. After that, I'll give some recommendations of new bands and songs you have missed out on. I would say-"Welcome to the Rabbit Hole",but not sure how far your in. I hope Gabriel has found you. He has great insight to Nightwish and lists. Try to keep to 'Live Concerts' opposed to albums. As you know the feel is completely different. This Concert is a great start. Explore the the whole concert. To go back to Gene, what happened 'to bands' was'nt fans, it was advertisement! Look forward to talking to you some more. 😎👍🍻

Unfortunately American rock and roll fails to explore in other areas when it comes to creating music. That's why I gravitated to bands like Nightwish, Kamelot and Delain all these bands that aren't well known here in the states. They give their music experiences a whole other level. I hope some day American artists learn to open their minds up to new music that don't involved to auto tune and lip synching or sex, drugs, rock and roll. Music should be an experience to enjoy.

Simmons is a great marketer but calling him a musician is an insult to even brand new musicians let alone real professionals like Nightwish. Simmons ego is beyond compare, if his talent had only been 1/1,000,000th of that he would actually be pretty good. You on the other hand bring a knowledge, love, and passion to your reviews. If I may I believe your wife would approve of your honoring her by continuing to share your knowledge and passion for great music. I always smile when I watch this show because you can see on everyone's face how comfortable and happy, they all are, and you can see them at times just watching floor and smiling like a collective relief for the members especially Tuomas and Marco, it's like they all have a look of "Finally" we have the missing piece, they all just click together perfectly and I get a kick out of watching how Floor an Emppu over time have developed a really cool connection on stage and the thing they do at the end of GLS where they throw up the irons and touch fingers or a fist bump is fun to see, they genuinely have a ball with each other on stage, I want my tears back at Wacken when you look at all their faces, they're having their own little thing going on stage and you can see how much they really love playing that song. Other bands have a good time on stage, but I've never seen this level of chemistry and how well they just naturally gel together, it's really cool, and I agree with your Gene Simmons statement and I was the biggest KISS fan back in the day, but I almost can't listen to them now because in my opinion they sold out somewhere in the 80's and I started losing interest, they started becoming a parody of themselves and when they started painting up other people in Peter and Ace's makeup that was the final straw for me. NIGHTWISH is the real deal, they don't try to be anything other than themselves, and they play what they love to play, they all have their favorites, Floor loves to sing GLS because it challenges her, Jukka loved to play Last ride of the day in Fact there's a video of that "Jukka's last show" it's cool and a little sad at the same time, there's also another one where Jukka sits in for Last ride of the day in 2016 I think playing Kai's drum kit on the song and it's pretty cool to see the fans erupt when they see him and I think it was the same show where their original bass player came out and played Wishmaster, someone correct me if I'm mistaken but it looked like the same show.

@rickphil99992 жыл бұрын
Hi Eric. Yes. A groove indeed. Tuomas is an unbelievable composer of such a broad variety of music that is mystically layered as you pointed out so well. The riff from both the bass and the guitar, the drums, and the keyboard set a platform upon which Floor roams like a lioness. She can work a crowd like Mesmer himself. Really fun reaction. Thank you for that.

Technically grunge killed rock in the early 90s, but that’s more of a philosophical perspective. Rock is not dead, nor have the fans killed anything. The only thing getting killed is the density of quality music being endorsed on a mainstream level, regardless of genre. Gene Simmons is a hack who has claimed that he invented the metal horns \m/ and even tried to trade mark it years later I believe. I see him as a musician the same way I see politicians as leaders.

David Heretic said it really well, "Rock-'n'-roll isn't dead, it goes into hibernation and re-emerges every decade." He gave examples for every decade for the last 50 years.

One more thought ... as I mentioned you do need to see the whole Wacken 2013 show from start to finish. The crowd new of Floor most had never seen her with Nightwish, some of course had seen her with her other bands. She was not a total unknown in the metal world, especially in europe. Still the 82,000 were pumped Nightwish was the headliner with only Rage playing after them with a 30 piece orchestra and the festival had been going for two days ... Nightwish came out rocking and as seen in this video kept it going. The crowd was into it, but a tiny bit unsure to start off ... the longer it went, the more they saw the fit of Floor with the other members ... you nailed it not one of them tries to outshine the other. If you watch Floor she often steps back during key instrumentals to let that band member shine. You will see every member of the band smiling big for the other members be it Floor nailing a difficult run, Empuu with and epic yet often understated solo, and so on ... they just all feed off of each other. One last thought I hope you don't mind my asking / suggesting ... would you consider doing a brief playlist type reaction sharing 10-20 songs that you and your wife loved? I hate your pain, but I love to see you talk about her with so much love and admiration. You're a good man Eric, thanks for being you!

Great reaction again Eric. Floor is always the center of all attention as the lead singer so it’s really nice to see you give Tuomas the credits he absolutely deserves for making all these masterpieces. Love to see you respond to some other masterpieces I really like “I wish I had an angel”, “Kiss while your lips are still red” at Wembley and “Slow love slow” all with Floor, although “Slow love slow” is probably Annette her best live performance. Your choice! 😊 Looking forward to the next Nightwish reaction! 🤟🏽

I have a recomendation, because you seem to love live Music and when a Band has a special conection with their crowd. The german old Masters of Power Metal Blind Guardian - The Bard's Song & Valhalla - Live at Wacken Open Air 2016. This would be two Songs, but fit perfectly together in their contrast. If this Video is not possible or availible, the 2011 Show of Bard Song will do it. This Song will always get the Crowd and their reaction is every Musicians Dream.

Rock & Roll isn’t DEAD! American’s, including this grandma has moved our attention to Europe, since the industry has starved us of driving rock like this. In 25 years have DENIED us this, & offers us mostly pop! Quite frankly, I hope the US keeps their money grubbing marketing off of them. This was Floor’s first concert as a permanent member, & look at Tuomas’s face, he is just beaming! I bet Peter Pan never knew he could take flight like this!

When Imaginaerium came out, my first reaction was "so they really do have a pop singer now". After I got over Anettes voice (after listening to Nightwish with Tarja for over a decade) I got pulled in the fairy tale feel of the album and I also had to admit that Anette fit in well with the theme. I still haven't seen the movie, need to fix that at some point.

My Wife always brings up subtlety and Talent combined with Special ppl being restraint, when we talk about Tuomas. If i have to negativly comment anything on Him, then i can only think of is him not getting himself some Help in long Term Decisions back in the Days. On the other Hand, when you are so Hyped, often the Scope gets lost to an bit. As @Klojum mentioned, i were absolutely touched , as Floor sit there like an Teenie fighting Tears in said Rock Academy Show. makes intact, right? It’s so great to hear your professional comments on Tuomas ’talent. One charming detail from the point of view of a Finnish fan, which is certainly conveyed to non-Finnish speakers too, is their loyalty to their style and roots, which has not been changed by world fame. They are home boys, speaking the East Karelian dialect of their homeland. It may sound a bit like "Hillybilly", but that's what they are!💛

Yeah, maybe we are not in the golden age of rock any longer but it is certainly not dead, especially in the Metal genre. Hi Eric, I appreciate your music business insight. A couple of years ago I might have agreed with Gene, but a couple of things happened. My daughter would call my classic rock, old man music and I hate to say it, but she was right to in some ways. If I was in the car I would tune in the classic rock station, only because I really could not find anything that caught my attention and in truth it is a kind of sad that mainstream radio just plays the same stuff over and over again for the last 40 years. I could not listen to another Journey, Boston, Zepplin, etc, okay, maybe the Who or Zepplin would get to play through. I now started to go out of my way to try and listen to music I had not heard of before and give everything a chance from Rap to coffee house music, to death metal. Then one day I happened on a KZbin video titled Metal singer sings Phantom of the opera. After hearing Floor for the first time from the Beste Zangers, I needed hear more of what this woman could do. That lead me to Ghost Love Score, and I cried like a baby, it was just so f---- beautiful. I never heard anything like that before. I was in such disbelief that I would then watch the reactors to see if they felt what I did or was it just me. I quickly found out that it was not me and that there was all this amazing music to listen to that I was being denied by the mainstream media. Another great thing happened too; I would watch interviews with these artists, and I find out that they were influenced by the classic rock guys. There was a great interview with Metallica talking about how Deep Purple influenced them and that got me to go back and listen to bands I loved with a new ear for what made them great. Peace and Love ✌🤘FYI, there are young new artist out there that know how to rock. It's all about the writing and getting people to feel and that is where Tomasz is a True Master.
