At ANZAC cove monument there is a quote by Mustafa Karnel which is: You the mothers who sent their sons from far away countries wipe away your tears. Your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well." Joakim stated that this is the song “he loved a little too much” and he spent 6 years writing it.

As a European, I feel obliged to salute the fallen of the second world war. I know about the other theaters of that war, but our liberation couldn't have happened without them.

Gallipoli was another wonderful example of the total incompetence of the British generals in WW1. The invasion was doomed almost from the start by poor preparation and an arrogant belief the Ottoman soldiers would not fight. The invasion was plagued by ill-defined goals, poor planning, insufficient artillery, inexperienced troops, inaccurate maps, poor intelligence, overconfidence, inadequate equipment, and logistical and tactical deficiencies at all levels. And as if to prove they were incapable of learning from their mistakes, one of the commanders of the British forces at Gallipoli (Major General Aylmer Hunter-Weston) was not only not demoted, he was given command of the troops at the equally disastrous Battle of the Somme. Great reaction, keep rocking.

It pretty much went exactly how they thought it would. Plans had been in place for attempted landings against the Turks by the British if a war broke out since 1906.

There is another reactor that is a teacher in Sweden, I think he has used Sabaton in class From the 2008 album, The Art of War. Joakim wrote the music, he and Par wrote the lyrics. That album also includes Ghost Division and 40:1. Suggest both of those songs, live at the 2012 Polish Woodstock festival in front of a huge crowd.

The singer of Sabaton, Joakim Broden, did a video/song with Nanowar of Steel some weeks ago called "Pasadena 1994". I think you might like that too, it is a totally different kind of "war story".

When talking about leaders that lead. I can recommend - Race to the Sea from Sabaton. The king defied all orders and flooded the Belgian lands to prevent the german army of reaching the sea. Also, I think teachers should probably use the history episodes of Sabaton. About 20 minutes about the background of the lyrics. Totally recommend!

Thank you for your very understanding and respectfull analysis of what Sabaton and their music is about. You give me a very nuanced perspective. Recently there was a new reactor who watched them solely bc he was going to a concert they were giving together with Babymetal. He was checking them out beforehand out of fear that their agressiveness and warglorying would somehow soil the image of his beloved Babymetal. He had no clue, like many unfamiliar with tge band, rather predjuciced about what he was going to experience, but luckily after a couple of songs he began to see their true mettle. You certainly can't speak for ALL veterans, all individuals are unique, but I do believe your own experience, and those of your family background, does help to give a perspective with more depth into it regarding Sabaton. So yet again, thank you for the reaction.

How many wasted lives? How many dreams did fade away? Broken promises - they won't be coming home. O Mothers, wipe your tears - Your sons will rest a million years Found their peace at last - as Foe turned to Friend and forgave.

Thankyou for reacting to this, especially during the ANZAC day week. Well aware other Aussies were suggesting this song, but I knew you would love this song. I worked ANZAC day this week. The Two-Up ring was set up right in front of our food pass😂 Lots of veterans letting go and trying to live life. It was loud, it was busy, it was fun. Then the very next day I was in surgery for a large Inguinal Hernia. So I'm watching this in recovery right now. Once again thanks for reacting to this song.

One of my favorite songs by SABATON, probably. This is still when they were more, er, progressive in their musical story-setting. The break and solo in this song are breathtaking and add immensely to the emotion. No creative rut with this one. Great piece!

Gallipoli taught the lessons in blood that would make the invasion of Normandy a success. To your comments about soldiers being soldiers: "Forward, the Light Brigade!" Was there a man dismay’d? Not tho’ the soldier knew Some one had blunder’d: Theirs not to make reply, Theirs not to reason why, Theirs but to do and die: Into the valley of Death Rode the six hundred." -The Charge of the Light Brigade Alfred, Lord Tennyson

The lyrics are actually based on the words of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk himself: "Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives ... You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side here in this country of ours ... You, the mothers who sent their sons from faraway countries, wipe away your tears; your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well."

A song which is more in the 1916-style and also about Gallipoli is the old Eric Bogle (and often covered) song "And the Band played waltzing Matilda". Usually I am also a huge fan of Sabaton, but I find that that song fits far better the Gallipoli-history .

@@Wolf-ln1ml Fair. Forgot about his opinion on that. However, you can't actually compare the 2 performances. Carolus Rex always sounds better in swedish, and Apocalyptica adds a whole new dimension to the songs.

Hey Eric. I just came here from an earlier video you did, praising the ability for Nuclear Blast Records to scout new talent, well do I have a gift for you my friend. Would you please look up Evil Invaders, if you haven't heard of them yet. They are a thrash band from Belgium and they give off an insane oldschool vibe. If I may suggest a song, go for Fast Loud and Rude or Raising Hell. I promise you won't regret it. Love your videos, keep up the good work.

So I have to sincerely thank you for putting words to how it feels inside

If the Dardanelles had been crossed, the capital would have been occupied. That's why the soldiers put their lives, blood and souls on the line. Those people drowned in their own blood. Their arms and legs were severed, but they continued to fight. They fought for us, for their sons, for an inch of homeland. These lands were stained with the blood of many people. That's why the color of our flag is red. Among the soldiers were children who had not even become adults. They volunteered. They were still in high school. They could not return. That year, high schools produced only a few graduates. Sometimes not at all. They were still children themselves. Women disguised themselves as men just to be able to participate in the war. Sister Şerife used everything she could to protect her bullets and her 8-month-old baby from the cold. Those bullets were covered with an 8-month-old baby's blanket. The woman died. She was martyred. Mothers burned henna on their sons' heads. They knew they wouldn't be coming back. Henna is burned to the victim. They cried, begged, treated the soldiers. They sewed their clothes. When the crane that lifted the bullet broke down, "Corporal Seyit" carried the 215-kilogram bullet on his back and put it back in place. 215 kilograms! Blood flowed, the screams of children made their ears bleed. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk said, "I am not ordering you to attack, I am ordering you to die. In the time that will pass until we die, other forces will come to replace us, other commanders may dominate." That's what the War of Independence was like, and that's only a small part of it.

They don't teach anything of battle of gallipoli in this song. Somehow even other songs on the album are ok quality this is always very bad...soundwise. Pixeled sound. Otherwise bit different than mud is hell. Shore and hills nearby were hell.
