Morgan James is the Real Deal. No autotune crap, gimmicks or lack of true talent here. She can sing any genre with equal passion and originality. One in a million......keep your eyes and ears on her since she is one of the greatest songtress' ever!

I watched many people's reactions to this specific cover music video and they all have the same pattern: The KZbinrs had to *pause* the video to "digest" what they had just heard. Morgan James as well as the PMJ band makes a song so good, it has to be interpreted in *short bursts* or small intervals. It's *that* good. Kind of like eating ice cream: If you eat to much of it at a short amount of time, you'll get the painful *brain freeze.* Not to many singers can match the voice range of Steven Tyler, let alone accomplish that *and* twist it to their own original version. The band was absolutely phenomenal because transitioning an early 1990's rock song to a 1940's(?) jazz song is no easy feat. The choice of instruments, timing, spacing, acoustics, pitch, tempo, crescendos, decrescendos, and other various technical terms I forgot in music classes were all finely tuned and polished. As for Morgan, she *owned* that version of the song. No doubt about it. I have no doubt that making this masterpiece took a ton of trial-and-error, experimentation, countless rehearsals, unique improvisations, and dedication to boot.

This cover was the first time I heard of Morgan James. Since then I have bought every single piece of music she has produced. Although it is sometimes difficult to source. A great singer ploughing her own way through the mire of current musical taste. trained at the Juilliard School of Music - according to an interview they created an extra space in their annual intake to accommodate her she’s that good.

PMJ has SO MANY great covers!!! The way they take modern rock and pop songs, and turn them into songs that sound like they're from the 40s and 50s and 60s is simply amazing!!! And all PMJ songs have one main thing in common: Scott Bradlee on the piano!!!

She is a brilliant singer. She has a great channel on KZbin - her own music is splendid too. So many good choices just with PMJ. Look at Maps and Take me To Church for starters. She is classically trained so can do that too, but mainly sings in this incredible R&B style. Since the start of the pandemic and watching reactions on KZbin, I, like so many - like you - have discovered for themselves Morgan, Haley Rhinehart, Floor Jansen and few others. In other words, just as you have, I've discovered the best female singers on the planet and just keep wondering why I never discovered these talents before. Well done KZbin.

Just listened to an interview with her and Bradley earlier today - both talking about having an independent career. Apparently she had a 2-record deal with Epic, got a reputation for fighting for herself, got dropped. Is now more successful through her own channel - bigger, more loyal concert fans, good sales on her music. I stumbled across this song about 2-3 months ago and have listened to a LOT of her stuff since. Check her channel. As of the interview (2018) she'd done 10 videos with Bradley.

She is trained at the Julliard school in New York only to realize her heart was more Aretha Franklin rather than Maria Callas. Then she had to learn how to belt. She most definetely has one of the best voices there is today!!

Glad you did this one! Morgan has done a few other songs with PMJ ( All about the Bass & MAPS to just name a couple ) and she has her own YT channel where she does covers usually accompanied by her husband on acoustic guitar . Check out her cover of the whole Beatles White Album, Dear Prudence ( with Haley Reinhart ), Do Right Woman and Lay Down Sally. She is absolutely a GEM.

Morgan is all class. Glad you feel the same way after one song. She now has quite a large catalogue available since her PMJ touring days - including covers, musicals, regular live online performances, concerts and original albums - all worth checking out. Actually Morgan is a Juilliard trained opera singer. She grew up in Idaho and finished high school in California. She worked on Broadway (Godspell, Addams Family and played Teena Marie in Motown). She is absolutely one of the best singers on the scene. Very humble in the fact that she still studies with a voice coach.

After hearing both songs a ton of times, I still cannot decide if my favorite PMJ cover is this one or Creep. There are many other great covers by this band (check out Haley Seven Nation Army or Black Hole Sun, Morgan Take Me To Church or Maps, or both of them All About That Bass) but the first 2 you reacted to are the 2 best in my opinion.

She's NEVER tuned, in fact, she will refuse any project that intends to use any tuning, at any point, with respect to her vocals. Paul is correct, she is classically trained, and very technically proficient. However, she has shown a remarkable ability to present the same technically proficient skills across several musical genres, including musical theater. She and PMJ do a really fun spin of "Barbie Girl". For some fun and AMAZING eye candy, checkout her European gig with the "Skivvies"! Here she sings "Burning Girl" in red lingerie and a fire helmet.😀 She's a giver!🤣✌
