This is the genius of Scott Bradlee and his invention called Postmodern Jukebox. He takes current and classic songs and rewrites them in specific styles. He has a core of fabulous musicians then adds an ever-changing list of guest vocalists - like Morgan James. Morgan was classically trained at Juilliard and done many Broadway musicals. (Just listen to her devilish “Turn Back, Oh Man” from the recent revival of Godspell.)

This is one of my very favortes of PMJ. PMJ getting Morgan and Haley, sure got 2 great singers. Morgan and Haley have done other songs together outside of PMJ. Also just want to let you know Angelina Jordan dropped her new EP, her new video "Now I'm The Fool" that is written my her if you could react to it I would be so happy and I think you would be happy too it is great.

Larry, I totally agree, this is the best re-interpretation of this classic I've ever seen & I'm glad you finally listened to, if not me at least another one of Subs. The pianist, artistic Director & creator of the PMJ musical collective, Mr. Scott Bradley, does all the arrangements and in my opinion is a genius. Also, Ms. Morgan James is incredible & I would highly recommend checking out any number of singles, she's an incredible soul vocalist. Another fantastic PMJ re=invention by Scott is Maps - by Maroon 5. Scott Bradley turns it into a Vintage 1970s Soul track ft. Morgan James.

I've been obsessed with reactions to this song because it moved me SO MUCH when I heard it the first time. My face / brain was the same as yours throughout... "WHAT AM I HEARING? THIS IS.... WHAT AM I HEARING?" I think that for a cover this is better than the original because it reinvents the song in a different way while still respecting and presenting the full power of the song. The only other song that I had thoughts like "Can this be better than the original?" is the Pentatonix / Lindsey Sterling version of Radioactive." I would LOVE to see your reaction to that.

I would argue that it's technically better than the original, but knowing the original gives us a greater reason to appreciate this more than if it were the original. Morgan James is a Julliard-trained opera singer, but her preferred genres are R&B and jazz. She has the best Aretha Franklin covers you'll ever hear. This is the _tour de force_ of Scott and Morgan, if not their _magnum opus._

Just wanted to comment on her choice to not use vibrato on those long notes. During those notes, the musicians are playing a cadence that is very similar to a singer's vibrato. By not using vibrato, her voice stands out more clearly against the busy background.

Yes, I have probably watched the Montreal concert a dozen times... Freddie was amazing. I just can't get into Adam Lambert taking his spot. He's very talented, but I've always felt a little jealous of somebody stepping into Freddie's spot. It just feels...wrong... Thanks so much again!

that's the only way to successfully cover/tribute those huges songs, if you copy pasta the song, 99% of time it's a fail. But if you twist it, make it yours and bring yourself in the song with the amount of talent of PMJ and Morgan you end up with an incredible result.
