„I brought this. So i am well prepared“ Floor: „Lemme give it a try“ 😉 Seriously this one i listened to hundred times and it breaks me into tears every single time. I needed to stop listening in the public because i was expecting to get strange reactions of like „Are you ok mate?“ „Ya man, i ain‘t crying. Its just floorgasm.“ And seriously the song itself is one thing. But the lyrics create so many emotions that are just impossible to stand for me. Now i can literally say „yes i have LISTENED music“. Masterpiece.

I've listened to this song before... over and over in the last month, but somehow just now, watching it with you, it hit me in a different way. The amazing thing about Human :||: Nature is that it gets better and more profound the more you listen to it - on the first listen, I didn't even like this song! Now I'm sitting here crying like a baby. It's as if we're hearing this through time from the remnants of life far in the future, recording the history of earth like one long procession, the good and bad, each new form leading to the next. "After all, we should have never appeared" - I think this means the absurdly small chance that the first life ever even happened. And all of this has an end - "We are, we were and will not be." I guess it puts into perspective our place in a long unbroken line stretching into the past and future, the story of life on earth.
@W4rr4X4 жыл бұрын
This song is just so damn sad... I tend to think it's about Earth's cycles, where there were life forms before us, with us, and there will be after us... but at the same time, I always thought to myself, that we have the potential to be Earth's caretakers, but instead we somehow chose to be jerks... oh well... hey, great reaction, you never disappoint me, you 'feel' their songs, and they sure threw a lot of themselves in that album. Thanks you Kelly :)
@mnewm214 жыл бұрын
but is it sad? Only if we ignore the warnings...we clearly survived to be able to sing about it in the future. If anything it is hopeful as long as we take notice before it is too late but maybe that is just a perception from an overly positive person?
@Henrik_Holst4 жыл бұрын
@@mnewm21 My take from the lyrics is that it's not us that is singing from the future, they simply sang it "in a tounge that you will understand". Aka it's from a future long after the human race have died out (humans our kin that died aeons ago).
@dennisklein65544 жыл бұрын
Michael Newman Agree. Its not sad but extremely touching because it puts you in birds-eye perspective and holds a mirror towards mankind saying „Look. This is what you got and this is what is you are making out of it“

This song almost makes you feel shame for our humanity? However we are also part of the cycle. The difference is we have reason on our side and we still make so many mistakes along the way. Fauna and Flora are simply programmed to exist by the natural law or "Survival of the fittest". Loved your analysis and insights KD. This is a very unusual song without a chorus. Therefore I think the focus should be on the WE & THEY. We, are the singers of the gone. They are us, humanity. Below are the lines from this song which carry the message in my opinion. We are, singers of the gone - (We must be a future super evolved life form with a type of Akashic memory) We remember, as along came life - (primordial plant life) We are, we were, and will not be - (Even this evolved life form looking back at the history of Earth will end) We remember, as along came acorn - (the very first tree) An empty zoo, a starlight vigil - (Empty zoo represents Earth without any animals - only the flora and the stars) Will have a visit, as along came heartbeat - (the very first animal) Menagerie, of a new world order - (Earth brings forth animals a plenty) We held our breath, as along came suffering - ( this leads to the circle of life feeding on itself -Predator & prey) We remember, father Pikaia - (the first vertebrate) Gave the way, as along came Sapien - (Early Humans) Then they saw the moon, and found caring - (now They (us) found mystery & Romance) We remember, as along came writing -(Back to We - as they (us)discovered the power of words remembered) Spaceship Earth, through the fields of time -(Earth traveling thru space & time (Earth's journey) They understood, as along came wisdom - (They again (us) thru wisdom understood our world was out of balance) We have been here a while - ( We again, but this time it is all life including the singers of the gone) At the end of Pi, as along came harvest -(Pi has no end, Pi only ends with Earth's ending, which is the ultimate harvest) We were there and will remember mankind Our kin Aeons ago
@phillipevans94144 жыл бұрын
Thorgrim . Excellent lyrical analysis and almost exactly as I had interpreted them. Our only divergence was: "At the end of Pi, as along came harvest -(Pi has no end, Pi only ends with Earth's ending, which is the ultimate harvest)" - I had thought that Pi being the formula for the circumference of a circle was referring to the circle of life, and Harvest is referring to "harvest" as it is characterized in the song of the same name earlier on the album (ie. death), this album contains numerous songs with references to other songs on the album, and indeed also the previous album EFMB. There is no right answer, good art is always open to interpretation, but just thought I would share my thoughts with you, as you have most generously done for us. Thanks!
@Thorgrim2474 жыл бұрын
@@phillipevans9414 I agree with you. The Pi reference does have a double meaning and you hit it on the head. Also, I did mean to imply that Harvest is death. I only saw it in the bigger picture of all life and possibly the Earth itself? In the end you are also correct regarding the beauty and wonder of great poetry. Many people find many meanings. Very interesting insight my friend.

Tuomas has a way of reaching into your chest and touching your heart, but when he teamed with an empathic vocalist who knows no boundaries to her vocal capability, along with four other virtuoso musicians ... he does more than touch your heart. Brilliant beyond reason in composition of the music, he is equally brilliant in lyrical construction. When we watch Nightwish, we watch a force of nature. We attend a class, as we learn to feel, learn to understand important issues and facts. Tuomas is a teacher, and we should get college credit for hearing his lessons. A wonderful song, and you definitely feel the music, Kelly. Me too. I see so many people speak of we humans as (not being good stewards), and some are not, but many are. I've personally planted at least half a million trees, which took 5 years of difficult work, as it was almost all in steep and rugged country, and though in my mid 60s, I'm spending non-fire-season months removing hazard trees from around high-voltage power lines to help prevent fires, and fire-season months going into the forest fires to mostly fall burning trees, up to 90 hours a week, and both jobs stem directly from my love of nature and of life, be that life trees and tiny flowers, creatures of the woods or human life. As technology advances and we do more with less, and live more elegantly, air and water improves, as it has in my home, the west coast of the US, for half a century. There is much to do to refine the art of living lightly upon the earth but 'we' aren't 'destroying the planet'. Healthy perspective is good. Fatalistic, anti-human zealotry, not so much. Thank-you, everyone.
@mnewm214 жыл бұрын
I think that is the sad thing of humanity we obsess over the wrong things. There is no point in obsessing over the bad things if you don't change them. That to me is the failure of society. We report all the bad but that is all we do as a society...report. Society needs to action the reports and start assigning responsibility to fix the problems rather than playing the blame game...
@cyberjarl4 жыл бұрын
On an individual basis, you are probably correct. You and many other people care about the world and do their best to protect it. However, humanity as a whole has been and still is the biggest thread to life on Earth since the last ice age. This is not speculation, this is not fatalism, this is not anti-human or eco-activist propaganda, this is simply the facts as supported by hundreds of scientific studies, all over the world, regardless of political alignment. Over hunting/fishing, pollution, destruction of billions of hectares of rainforest, greenhouse gase emissions, all these things are still accelerating ( Yes, accelerating. We have not even yet stopped the INCREASE of these negative consequences of human activities despite all the warnings and environmental programs and fundraisers for decades). I don't subscribe to the idea that humans are a virus/cancer and should be eliminated or whatever. But we still have MUCH work to do globally before we can claim to have a positive effect on our environment, and we may ultimately run out of time.

The pleasure of this record is not just because it is thought provoking and a treat for the ears it also carries a strong message about how sloppy we as a species have maintained our home but as current events show we have no guarantees on continuing to be the caretakers of this world. Life starts as single cells, when they become multicellular and cells start to specialise in the body, the heart had to be formed as the first organ to support that larger body. 'Along came heartbeat' therefore IMHO refers to the origin of complex multicellular life, In medicine/embryology a 'monster' refers to a malformed baby. Some monsters survive because they have actually some advantage. Hence the reference to birth and also selection by 'endless forms'. Tuomas knew we did not need more words than those, because we would all be filling in the 'most beautiful' by ourselves. Most probably some of the key mutations that makes us human were first in an ape that would be considered a monster by its species. The step from Pikaia to Sapiens is a big leap. Many things happened in between. But adding those details would make it a very very long song, and we already had our 20 minutes evolution song.

Dear Kelly, I have been following your immersive posts, reviews and performances, and sure never regretted having subscribed. I love that you take up the challenge to delve into lyrics that others kind of just gloss over or (at best) use their intuition to try and decipher. :) Of course you don't know me so it is strange to give recommendations here, but you might enjoy being a part of the channel of certain Friar Guylain Prince, a Canadian Franciscan, who has an interesting story and a broad knowledge of texts (not only religious!), and just started a channel where he goes into the music AND lyrics of deserving bands on the rock / metal side of things. No, he is not preaching, at least not what is usually associated with that kind of thing; and yes, he is very open-minded and enlightened. And, as a poet, you would find a lot for yourself in sharing the insights with the man. For a final point, he is nuts about NIGHTWISH and currently going, at his pace, through the whole of the new album.... I find myself kind of awkward at this sort of matchmaking, but I truly feel your channel, in spirit and intent, is kin to Guylain Prince's. Anyone who cares should also take note; I hope the good Friar will hang on to produce a really immersive and popular outlet for thought, as he deserves. :)))

Here's a great start for anyone willing to "dwell in the lyrics", especially the greyed parts of the lyrics with explanations suggested by people genius.com/Nightwish-procession-lyrics P.S. And the mention of Harvest is probably a direct reference to the meaning of that word in the song Harvest on this same album, so, in turn, the end of life for human kind. Fruition and harvest from our point of view is a good thing because we harvest the fields for the grain, but that same harvest is also the death for all those plants, and in most cases, no next generation from that pool of life.

We have so much to learn but most are satisfied with accepting delusion as fact and disregard truth and reality, and choose to believe what popular media and perceived peers tell them to believe and follow others orders without even being aware of it. Find the truth's for yourself and disregard what your fed. Never listen to those who think they know it all and possess the answers. Only you can possess the answers you seek. Be open and connect with the universe, not mankind. What you seek cannot be obtained from man. What man has to give is meaningless and leads you in the wrong direction. Seek out what is hidden within your own heart and soul and once you've found it never mention what it is to another. Keep it for yourself. There's a reason for sadness, pain and sorrow that is more important than all the gold, wealth, love and/or prestige you can gain from the physical universe. Peace.

Scientists say that the earth has had at least five major extinction events. I think that when they say " We held our breath, as along came suffering" may be in reference to a catastrophic event like an asteroid impact or major volcanic eruptions. Animals holding their breath because the air became toxic and super heated. That was my take on it anyway. I don't how many times I've watched this video now but, there's so much in it to wrap your mind around that it's impossible to get it the first few times. Something really cool. Go to the part where it says "Along came writing" Look at the sign in the lower right hand corner. You'll see writing in..I believe it's in Dutch. Translated it says "Origin of Species"....Charles Darwin! Profound indeed.

Kelly, it's astonishing that Procession is the song least viewed. Is it the message or the fear we are facing? Do we shut our eyes for what is coming? Or do we accept the unavoidable end of mankind? In my opinion we all know the warning of Procession is real. And as long we are walking the current path with closed eyes the extinction is running towards us. All of us will not experience that but I am afraid that my grandchildren will. Off course I am the pessimist (I hope so) and big leaders are wright. So let's go on with are live. Somebody will survive.
