Haha this show has created a lot of slang and insular jokes within my friend group over the last couple of years. Each of the groups (skids, hockey players...) get their spotlight as the show progresses and they all become so fun to watch sling quick, witty phrases at each other. Watching with subtitles might be good to do until you get used to how they talk. They also have some of the best bloopers and cast interviews.

Fun fact the actors helped create the show and based the show off of their hometown Listowel Ontario in Canada! They used to make KZbin clips called listy problems with the same theme as the show, they got popular enough that HBO picked them up to make a series. I am not a lady but I can tell you there are still parts of this country (and I am sure Canada) where physical, strong, punch throwing dudes are in high demand. Wayne a is good guy and a great friend but definitely likes a good fight. You have to understand there are many country boys who view fighting like an old time gentleman's duel. Within the rules of honor and shit like that.Wayne is like that. I myself have seen dudes beat the shit out of each other then have a beer and laugh it off more times than I can count. Usually with a group of men and women watching and making sure nobody crosses the line from fight to assault with intent. Also, as you will see later, the woman are not above settling their own disputes the same way. Country life is just generally a more physical one.

I can confirm, i grew up in rural Ontario, they got this pretty bang on... the way they talk, the slang they use, the one bar, the veg stand out front of the farm, lots of boozing, hockey player dipping tobacco, even the lack of police (the county i lived in didn't have 24 hour police until 15 years ago, no cops on duty from 2 am-6am).
