The choreography and incorporation of the chair goes a little deeper than merely a sensual number. This is in reference to the number called “Cell Block Tango” from the musical Chicago. Both songs share thematic elements of a man doing something wrong and a woman getting her revenge. In Cell Block Tango, the chorus repeats “he had it coming”, which parallels Vigilante Sh*ts lyrics “Don’t get sad, get even”. Both songs describe a different man’s crimes and how the woman got revenge in each stanza. Highly recommend you look up either the 2002 movie number or a recording of the choreography from the stage production. It’s a fantastic piece of theatre 😊 And if you watch the Chicago number, it will make sense why Vigilante Sh*t is not super provocative.

I enjoy her music & her songwriting, but so many still see her as a teen because often she is still making high school references in songs & the romance she seems to seek and glorify is unhealthy & not sustainable. At least she also often acknowledges her mistakes & flaws too, but when 99% of the hits don't show that side people only have that to go on. Even with vigilant sh!t - many would say chair dances don't make you mature.... especially in public. It would signal you aren't.
@im_azraelle9 ай бұрын
@@orphanedhanyoushe doesn’t “often” make school references in songs, not since her Fearless album when she was 18. the latest examples i think of are Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince which was a metaphor, and Suburban Legends which was also a metaphor and was written in like 2013/2014. the stuff on folklore and evermore is about fictional teenage characters…i don’t get your point here. just because she makes pop music doesn’t mean she should automatically be viewed like a child. people have an image of her in their heads because she had a squeaky clean image for most of her career up until Reputation came out, and for some reason people won’t let that go. she’s sang about sex and done sexy dances for ages. it’s weird that people infantilize a 34 year old woman, doesn’t matter what she sings about

I feel like by the time the eras tour film came out, most of us had already seen video people had taken on their phones at the show, and watching it from one angle without cuts, it came off more shocking than the eras tour version did. Or maybe that’s just because we were seeing it for the first time. It was much discussed. The choreography is also an allusion to Cell Block Tango in “Chicago” about women in prison for murdering men, the chorus of the song being “they had it coming, they had it coming all the time, if you’d have been there, if you’d have seen it, it was a murder but not a crime” (make of that what you will).

She's performed "sexy" stuff before like Dress and IDWTLF, but the quick change into this more revealing outfit (from the Tshirt dress, i mean), the choreo AND the 💺? She leaned into a more burlesque-style performance for this one and it works especially well because she hasn't done it that directly before.

Taylor has expressed many times that she never wants to have a 'sexual' appeal in her 20s and early adult years. But now, as she is well into her 30s, she is obviously not afraid to have that side of her when she has such a iconic legacy and nothing to lose practically, speaking..... It totally depends on the artist of when they want themselves to appear provocative.
@texasseastar9 ай бұрын
Her creative control was also somewhat limited when she was younger. I’m sure Borchetta wanted her to have that squeaky clean look. She also refrained from speaking on politics or lyrics that were too racy (except Reputation) until she was older and in more control.

What I think is hard for newer fans (me being one of them), is that this isn't that risqué especially in the world we live in now where you see more revealing things multiple times a day on social media. But once I started doing more of a deep dive on her career, it is quite a departure, so her fans that have been with her forever, it was really shocking. She has also been seen for a long time as young/naive/and to some people even asexual and has to live in this world where she is 34 and writes about grown woman things but has 8 year olds who idolize her so it has to be a struggle for her.

I suspect that, now that the Eras Tour is streaming on Disney with extra songs, it will be easier to upload clips. A week ago I saw that someone had uploaded the entire original version of the movie. I don't know if it has been taken down yet, but it had already been up for several days by the time I noticed that it was there. My point is, the existence of the new version might mean that clips from the original version are not so rigorously guarded. (?)

I didn't think you'd do another "Vigilante Shit" reaction. I'm glad you did. I like that you did them close together. 👍 A lyric video is definitely best to do first, so that you can focus on its lyrics. There's usually plenty of things to comment on in lyrics, so starting with a music video or performance can overload your ability to process everything and react. In this second reaction, you were able to focus on what the performance adds. Great analysis of the performance; it had to be rated PG-13, and it was still fun and exciting to see a somewhat risqué Taylor Swift. A "The Eras Tour" concert is like a 3+ hour workout, with great singing the whole time! 🦸♀️
