Zawsze sie wzruszam przy tej piosence. Mysle wtedy o swoich rodzicach jak oni przetrwali i przetrzymali wojne. Tata byl w Armii Krajowej, walczyl, byl ciezko ranny i ledwo co przeżyl. Glòd, strach to bylo straszne. Nigdy wiecej wojny. Niestety rozni politycy mają to gdzieś....głeboko. Mama 92 lata na krotko przed smiercia krzyczala ...niemcy, boje sie, boje sie, dlaczego oni to robia...boje sie.😢

Yes, Poles are mostly patriotic. I have no doubt that every Polish family in the last 100 years has lost someone during the war or occupation. My family lost several people who were shot without a trial or shot after a verdict which was a judicial crime committed by the Germans and Russians or by Poles who served them...

This song was probably written in 1918. It was sung during the Polish-Bolshevik war in 1920, and also during World War II. Well, our characteristic sentimentality, resulting from our dramatic history. Most Polish families suffered irreparable losses during past wars, which is why this song appeals to us so much. My Grandfather was murdered in Auschwitz. Most of my father's family died in the Warsaw Uprising. I think that most Polish viewers of your channel would tell similar stories. that's why this song is a reflection of Polish memory.

Pisałam to już na kanale Roba kiedy komentował ten film My great-grandfather was forcibly included in the army, in the Russian army, during World War I. There was no Poland then, Poland was under partition, our part of the country was under Russian partition. He was deported to Odessa. Poland has always existed in the hearts of Poles. He didn't want to be in the invader's army and ran away. He was walking home. He walked for half a year. The people he met helped him. When I watch this video, I see my great-grandmother who waited for him every day and wondered if he would come back. It was winter, he was very tired, suddenly he saw lights in the houses in the distance and heard people praying, singing the "godzinki" prayer in Polish. He started screaming, people came and fed him and let him stay in their house. Then he learned that Poland had regained independence and after 123 years we had our own country again. After a week, he returned home and saw his son for the first time, because when he was taken to the army, great-grandmother was pregnant

"Mała Armia Janosik" is the largest Polish highland band from Raba Wyżna, i.e. Podhale. It has about 200 participants, and the youngest of them is a two-year-old boy, the son of the founder and conductor of the band. The oldest participant is 70 years old. The band's repertoire includes various Polish songs, including: patriotic, folk, religious, caroling and entertainment. Some regional songs are sung in the true Polish highland dialect. One of the patriotic songs in their repertoire is this piece, which tells the story of a young, lonely girl in despair after the death of her beloved Jasieńka. The boy went to war with a white rose given to him by his beloved. Pozdrawiam serdecznie z Polski z mojego pięknego kraju. Children in Poland sing about war, loss and death a lot. They also hear of fight without hope of winning and heroism paid in blood. I am not really sure if it is better to keep kids in blissful ignorance or let them know such things happen, accustom them to this fact and spare them the shock later. Nevertheless, that is how we do it in Poland.

There is no conscious Pole who would not cry listening to this song! Every Pole who even remembers the history of his family from the last 4 generations will find at least a dozen such: Jasieńeks, who did not return from wars started by criminals - neighbors!

If you like that sound, there's a group of folk singers, Tulia, that sings covers of modern polish songs - I strongly recomend "Nieznajomy" - first by oryginal singer, Podsiadło, who is amazing, but then by Tulia as a comparison. Usually our music lyrics are strong and metaphoric. For many years we had to hide the real meaning, use secret code, sometimes very complex metaphors. Imagine 123 years of lost independence - we criticized our invaders in hidden way, indirectly. Later 44 years of communism, where any criticism was erased by the censorship. Artists had to figure out how to express what they wanted and not be understood by the censor. This is why Polish songs very often have interesting lyrics. If you pick up a mainstream English song and translate it to Polish language, it would sound ridiculous in Polish language. We are just used to deep meaning in lyrics and not just "baby I love you" etc.
