It's so sad that Brad Delp - the lead singer - committed suicide. If he only knew how important and loved he was in the minds of so many people. His singing is part of my soul, as is the singing of so many other great artists. Don't kill yourselves, artists. We love you.

Boston's 1987 'Third Stage Tour' At Alpine Valley Music Theater, I was first in line to buy tickets for all 3 shows, and every show we loved it. A friend of mine that worked at a resort in Lake Geneva told me Boston was staying there. Tom Scholz had come out with his Rockman amps line, in my studio I had Rockman amps, so we went to brunch at that resort, and I took the Rockman face plate off and brought it with me in the rare chance I might meet Tom. At brunch we met Boston drummer Jim Masdea, he said Tom & Brad had condo's out there, and not likely to see them. So we walked out toward the condo's, and in the distance saw a tall man with long dark hair, so I 'fooled' my girlfriend into thinking it was Tom Scholz, I knew it wasn't Tom, but as we got closer I really got her to start believing my prank, then we got even closer, and we were in shock we we realized it was Tom, walking with his young son. We approached him, and I asked... "Are you Tom Scholz?" And he said yes, I told him I was a big Boston fan, and he was polite but reserved. We almost left, then I remembered, and I said..."Tom, I'm not just a Boston fan, but I'm a customer also, he looked puzzled. Then I reached in my back pocket and pulled out my Rockman face plate, and Tom got an instant huge smile and laughed. We had a nice talk, and I got a picture with him, still with his huge smile that some crazy Boston fan had brought his Rockman face plate just in case he met Tom Scholz. I still have the picture of me & Tom, and he still had the huge smile from me showing him the Rockman face plate. Tom had asked me if I'd been to one of the shows, and I told him we were at all 3 shows, and he said... "Wow, thanks for the support" Then respecting his personal time with his young son, we thanked him and moved on. That is one of my most cherished memories, and the picture of me & Tom is still displayed in my music recording studio, with my Rockman amps still Rockin' away.

This entire album makes your ears happy. It is absent of any horrible sounds that may offend your senses. Eargasms throughout the whole album. Guitar riffs, vocals, solos, drum beats, ethereal sounds that take you on a sonic journey.

At the very end of the song, where you said "Got a few...got a few thoughts on this!" and then the last, like, three seconds played--that guitar scrape and drum-roll end, and you looked like you'd been taken a bit by surprise, like it was yet one more cool thing the song was offering for your appreciation--I half-expected you to say "And, OK--got ANOTHER thought now!" This album IS a gift that keeps on giving. I received it in about 7th grade, just when I started to REALLY get into "Rock and Roll Bands"!

Definitely enjoyed the reaction. I saw them when I was in 9th grade around 1977 I think. It was a fantastic show. And all those harmonies came off just like in the studio. And Brad Delp hits all the high notes with ease and the stacked harmonies were perfect and it was just so loud but perfectly mixed and it was really really amazing. You know what's even more amazing? The ticket price was $7.50 including all the extra fees and things. All GA (general admission).

The "c" in Scholz is silent, like "Schultz" & "Schmidt". Being old enough to remember when this album was released, it's fun to watch your reactions to it because that's the same reaction most had back then. Our collective minds were blown that a band's debut album could be this great.

My very first concert was in the fall of 1978 when I was a freshman in college. Three friends and I drove 70 miles to see Boston in the Minneapolis area. Sammy Hagar warmed up for them. I didn't know who he was at that time but he put on a good show. Then, the stage went dark for awhile and then they went into "Rock And Roll Band" beginning with flash pots and spotlights and the crowd went wild. It was a fantastic concert.

That was a great reaction. It is so fun to watch people find music that I've been listening to my whole life. We spent the Winter of 1976 hanging out at a buddy's house smoking as many jibbers and as much red choking hash under glass and burning the turntable with this album. The first time I really listened to this song was in a club in the '80s. It was loud, the sound system was great and I had just the right level of buzz to really get into it. The marriage of joyous lyrics heralding the band's rise to success, with the emotional crescendo of musical riff was so powerful that I ... well, I cried. :) The genre had a lot of talent and momentum back then to celebrate itself, and it was just a cornucopia of musical gems. It doesn't look like you've reacted to Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) yet. You should. Top of the list is "Don't Bring Me Down." Then maybe "Mr. Blue Sky."

Tim Scholz also couldn't find the exact pedals, distortion and sustain that matched what he had in mind, so he created the "Rockman" which gave this album that spacey feel. What a genius! There are videos on YT where guitarists demo the "Rockman" if you'd like to see it for yourself. Thanks!

I'm not sure why, but this is my favorite Boston song, when I saw them in concert they opened up with Smokin', on your reaction you read that that song isn't about Mariauna, but when they sang this song, they had a 5 ft tall bong on the stage, and when Brad hit it, a HUGE smoke clound went up from it. It might have been a stage prop, but it looked real enough. I was only 16 and hadn't ever smoked weed, but there was so much smoke in the stadium that night, that you couldn't see the other side, and I got high as a kite. It was a great night, there were about 20 people on the stage that night to make this sound, it wasn't just the guys in the 'group.'

Not that it was anymore important for me, but there’s something about Boston that symbolizes that time when we were going to concerts CONSTANTLY-like maybe how younger people went/go to movies. This concert was incredible. And then maybe a month or two later you’d be going to Foghat, Styx, Foreigner, KISS, Blue Oyster Cult, REO Speedwagon, Head East, ELO, Frampton . . . We interacted with these bands by album more frequently than individual songs. Obviously certain songs played bigger roles, but you weren’t going to be overly interested in buying a concert ticket for a couple of hit songs.

Every time I listen to one of these songs from this first Boston album, I can't help wishing/daydreaming that I'd been in the room on the day that Tom S and Brad D met for the first time. I am only able to imagine that the air/atmosphere around the two of them had to have been electric, fat with the meshing of 2 ridiculous talents; songwriter/musician and musician/vocal force of nature, as they began to combine their talents to create rock & roll magic.

I was so lucky to have seen Boston in 1976 in Macon, GA (I was 16). That guitar / spaceship descended from the ceiling at the beginning. Another great experience was when I saw Parliament Funkadelic and they all got out of a spaceship. There were just as many white people as black people, and we all just partied & smoked together. Politically speaking, there is a false divisiveness perpetuated by old, white politicians who want to see our country literally split into "us" and "them." It's so damn sad.
