Thankfully you completely understood the point that even the "enemy" is a brother in arms doing the bidding of leaders. This song is so poignant about the human condition and is beautifully rendered.

Mark Knopfler originally wrote this in 1982 about the Falklands War, because the veterans of that conflict suffered greatly for being there. It's so haunting and beautiful. I'm glad HF was able to give it the gravity it deserved.
@patriciamcl542 жыл бұрын
Mark, like so many of us, was sickened by the pointlessness of the Falklands War. The veterans on both sides were deeply affected by so much suffering for the sake of some rocks in a war which could easily have been avoided.

I have just recently discovered this group Home Free and don't know how I have not found them before. They are the best vocal group I have ever heard and I have found myself liking their renditions of songs that I didn't care much for the original. I was instantly a huge fan!
@bradhughes5102 жыл бұрын
the arrangement was by "club for five" but Home free managed to make it better yet again and "In this song, Mark Knopfler sings about a soldier who is dying on the battlefield, surrounded by his comrades, who remain by his side as he slips away. It's a look at the folly of war and the plight of those who fight them. "We've got just one world but we live in different ones," he told the BBC. "It's just stupid, it really is. We're just foolish to take part in anybody's war.""

This is an absolutely haunting rendition of an already somber song. I'm not sure what key this song is written in, but Tim drops down to ( and holds!) a G#1. It makes a number of points: citizens should recognize and honor their veterans and active service men; armies on each side of a battle recognize the sacrifices, suffering, pain and fear their counterparts are dealing with; and ... war is a sign that Civilization has failed.

I call Home Free Minister's of Music! No matter what genre of music! The songs, video's and their gorgeous harmonies lift me up and bring me to a place where I feel as if I am actually receiveing healing in my body, mind and spirit. This performance is so powerful and makes me feel almost like I'm in the presence of Angels and that our favorite guys are standing on Holy Ground! Fun fact, just to lighten the mood, Tim’s faithful and cuddle giant white dog named Sachamo, is laying between Chances feet while he sang his lead part. They didn’t make him move, they just filmed around him! The Dog has been known to steal a live concert spotlight by either coming on stage or peeking under the back curtain.

What I love about Home Free is that they have a remarkable way to relate to their songs. They're goofy and hilarious when the song demands it. And then they do this. This is one of, if not the best, song they've done so far. Simply because of the harmonies and Tim's unbelievable depth. The description that comes to mind for me is hauntingly beautiful. It gives me chills and makes my eyes tear up, every single time I hear it. I'm sure you noticed when Tim and Chance are each shown in front of the window, it makes them appear to be ghosts because you can "see through" them. But my third time to watch the video it hit me....those images are also a reverse image of the POW-MIA flag, just white background and black figure instead. I love Home Free and this is just another example why. 🇺🇸

Completely agree about Brothers in Arms meaning all humans, including ourselves. The roughest, toughest add most devastating wars that goes on address within ourselves with ourselves and that's what's causing wars outside of us. Nobody who's at peace with themselves will ever deliberately choose to do anything that is hurtful to another. Everything begins with us, with me (because I'm me and with you because your your me). Whatever we want to see in the world around us truly has to begin within us. Thanks for the reaction! I loved it. 🥰🙏

All I could think of listening & watching this video was the futility of war in any country. There are no winners only losers. Great reaction. I sum this track up as hauntingly beautiful. BTW (although I'm a grandmother in her 60's) we have several things in common. My son grew up on the Goosebumps books which makes me smile every time you show one. I'm a big fan of Spinal Tap and love your dial. I lived for many years in Arlington and on walks my husband and I would sometime go up the hill to Dimebag Darrel's house. We only saw it through a fence, but it was really cool. And finally, I am also a member of Alton Brown's Hate the Unitasker club. :)

Hi Charna! Thank you so much for watching with such attention to the details. I grew up with Goosebumps books and even still have some. The turn it up to 11 is one of my favorite Spinal Tap moments 😆 The other is them getting lost looking for the stage lol. Or tiny stone henge. As for Dime, I was so heartbroken when he died. I was in my Metallica cover band when I heard and was just gutted. He and Vinnie are both gone way too soon. Dime is in my top 5 favorite guitarists of all time. Such a great player and I’ve always heard he was the kindest dude. Thanks for watching! I’ll start posting again soon 🤘🏼🤘🏼

@@MetalGuyReacts I have a story I think you'll enjoy. In 2003 Michael Mc Kean, Christopher Guest and Harry Shearer appeared in A Might Wind a Christopher Guest mockumentary about folk singers. They played as a group called The Folksmen. At that time they occasionally still toured as Spinal Tap. On one tour they opened for themselves as The Folksmen and got booed off the stage to shouts of "We want Spinal Tap!" The audience never realized that it was the same three guys. BTW, my son still has his whole Goosebumps collection in storage. If I can put in a request, it would be great if you would react to some of Austin's solo work from his channel. His version of Unchained Melody has over 8 million views. I would also recommend Danny Boy and Tears in Heaven.

I enjoy the A Capella style of music, I count myself as a "Home Free" fan & do think the group did a respectful & very admirable job on it... Unfortunately.... "Brother's in Arms" has been my all time fav Dire Straits song since it first came out in '85 & never fails to move me to the verge of tears. The lead-in of the light guitar notes mixed with the storm... the thought provoking lyrics Knopfler's soulful & absolutely ICONIC guitar... As I said above, HF made a great effort, but due to the fact that I hold the original in such high regard, this one falls short for me. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oJnHd5hpmtuLps0
