I suggest the new Voiceplay, Hoist the colours. There are no words to describe it. It's that good.

Geoff is just phenomenal. I can't get over his voice and creativity. More recommendations for him: "High and Dry" or "Headless Horseman" (the latter is a great Halloween one!). I also have to recommend Hoist of Colours, just released by his a capella group. Geoff arranged and produced that one and it's spectacular - one of my new favourites by them.

I'm pretty sure that's an actual stand up bass. Geoff doing solo doesn't stay true to a capella, and we're all better off for it. Not that he couldn't do something like it, but it's an artistic choice; a good one if you ask me

Geoff has a great ability to use the props as percussion, which is really creative. He also may label his videos as bass covers but even Geoff has stated that he is not a bass, because he can sing really low, but also go really high. That is probably why he can harmonize so well with himself. Another song to hear is House of the Rising Sun by Geoff Castellucci. It's so good! But for Voice Play, If I Were A Rich Man/Girl is phenomenal as well!

I can hear Tennessee Ernie Ford saying to Geoff. "Bless your Pea Pickin Heart". This was the first thing I found by accident just browsing on YT of Geoffs' just clicked the title cause I love the song from my childhood. Fell in love with his voice. Then I was driving headfirst down the VoicePlay and Geoff Castellucci rabbit hold. I have discovered there is no bottom. It's like the energizer bunny just keeps going.

Can you hear Tennessee Ernie Ford in the 'Bless My Soul' bit from Geoff on the left? To me it's almost an impression on that one small part - certainly an homage at least.

As others have said, Geoff tends to have some accompanying instrument in his songs - guitar, piano, violin, and in this case extra bass. Though it sounds more like a double bass to me, than a bass guitar. But it always compliments his arrangements really well. This song was also completely in his chest voice. Enjoying your reactions!

Geoff has replied to questions about why he doesn't arrange his solo work a capella. Basically it comes down to not competing on the same field as VoicePlay. He does do multi-part harmonies, but always uses instrumentation in his solo work, he does this on purpose to differentiate his solo works from what he does with VoicePlay.

I find it so amazing that not only can he hit and effortlessly hold the insanely low notes, but he can legit sing lyrics down there too - like at the end of the song he hits that low note and then sings a line down there.

I know that in Country Roads he gives thanks for a guitar plug in he used, so if there's no mention of a bass here it was probably him pre recorded. His bass guitar sound is so realistic on VoicePlay tracks. And yes it's his smooth buttery tone across his range that's so incredible.
@randiskye4444
@randiskye4444 3 жыл бұрын
One reason he may have such full harmonization is that when he and Layne plot the arrangements for VoicePlay's pieces, they sing the separate parts and send them out as guides to the tenor and baritone parts. Yes, they repitch them as needed, but it may lend itself to the broad stylizations of his range. Or I could be talking out of my butt! Thanks for the great entertainment watching your eyes bug out when he hit a low! Also, it will be no use asking for up votes, it won't weed anything of his out, so you may just as well go through his channel in any order and just do them all, lol! Thanks!

Geoff's solo works (so far) are not a cappella. He plays the piano, and will utilize various plug-ins to covert that to other instruments. It's an opportunity for him to do something different from VoicePlay. Also, Geoff himself said that he didn't use any subharmonics in this one. 😁

Geoff does a great version of Blackbird. His backing harmonies are really soft and smooth. As you say, it's hard to do your own backing vocals, but Geoff manages to do it with no problem every time. Yes, he can emulate a bass guitar quite well and does so quite often when singing with Voiceplay, which is pure a capella.

There is a bass guitar in there. He is hitting a G#1 here in this song which is about 50Hz. A 4 string bass will go to a G which is 40 Hz. A 5 string low note is a B at 30 Hz.

I highly recommend the Celtic choral group Anuna, they have an all girl song called Jerusalem, which is crazy complicated. Not one person is singing the same word or note at the same time, and they do the song while they are walking. The whole song is long sustained phrases, WHILE THEY ARE WALKING!! And another song of theirs I love is Fionnghuala, which is super fun and fast in Gaelic. It's a type of music that the name translates to mouth music. It's amazing they have clear diction even while singing that quickly.
