Aahh Kate Bush😊. I had her poster on my wall in 1978😊. Kate was born in 1958, so was a year older than me when this song came out😊. Think I heard she was discovered by David Gilmore from Pink Floyd🤔.

People often struggle to get to grips with Kate Bush with this song, genius as it is. She was a real prodigy and you must check out "The Man with the Child in his Eyes" which is a stunning piano and strings piece written by her at just 13 and recorded at 16 which was the follow up hit to this in the UK. She went on to become one of the most important women in UK music history and there is a rich and varied catalogue to check out.

Emma, this is a great reaction to this great artist and song. In this Kate is singing higher than usual to fit the story behind the song, "Wuthering Heights" is a book by 'Emily Brontë' here, Kate is playing the part of the spirit of Catherine (Cathy) Earnshaw who has died, she is haunting Heathcliff who she loved. I suggest you check out some other songs of Kate's, such as: "Babooshka", "Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God)", "Wow", "The Man With the Child in His Eyes", "The Sensual World", "Cloudbusting", "This Woman's Work", "Don't Give Up" a duet with Peter Gabriel. There are many more but these are good ones to continue with.

now you're in! it will be impossible to get out : "running up that hill, babooshka, this woman works, army dreamers, moving, cloudbusting, sensual world, night of the swallow ....." and so much more it's magical to see someone hearing for the first time to kate bush... (for me it was in 1978)

Kate Bush is, for me, one of the greatest musical artists of the last 50 years. She had a 35-year period where she didn't give concerts because she suffered from stage fright. She overcame it and in 2014 she gave 22 concerts in London. All concerts were completely sold out in 15 minutes.

I was at all 3 of these Hammersmith Odeon gigs. (Edinburgh & Paris too) Still gives me goosebumps.. especially those last few minutes when she's going nuts, waving to the audience. She was stillvin awe & kinda 7:12 amazed by the response she was getting from the fans as it was her first, and only tour. I got to meet her a few times on this tour. She really was a lovely lady. 💖

Kate Bush is one of the most creative and unique artists over the last hundred years at least. Not just singer but artist considering she's also the composer, arranger, lyricist, choreographer, dancer, pianist and in many cases her own producer. Kate is in the same league as David Bowie and Peter Gabriel. All Kate's works are creative and unlike anyone before her (but a bit like many after her, 'cause many musicians acclaim her influence). Not each and every of her songs would be pleasant to any ear (some of her music is VERY avantgarde). But even though she has dozens of yet avantgarde but beautiful songs. And yeah, the high pitch in this song was intentional, the main character of this song is a ghost, it could be even banshee. Kate can sing in a way different registers and manners. It all depends on the song's objectives.

Kate Bush's sponsor was none other than David Gilmour from Pink Floyd. Kate began writing her own songs at an early age, setting a record in the UK charts. She is the first woman to reach number one in Great Britain with an original composition.

This is a great song that I love a lot, but I'm sorry that it's the first experience of Kate for so many people. Night of the Swallow, The Dreaming, Rocket's Tail, This Woman's Work, Never Be Mine, and her great collab with Peter Gabriel, Don't Give Up, are all really beautiful and her voice is a little more conventional (but not ordinary!) in these.

I'm not sure how big of a reader you are, but this song is inspired by the book Wuthering Heights, by Emily Brontë, an English writer who wrote this vital novel in 1847. Its hard to understate the influence this novel had on the entirety of western civilization. It speaks of the will of a woman trapped by the necessity of formal marriage to a dull but good man, with the desire for freedom in the form of her deeper and authentic primal love for Heathcliff, a man 'below her station'. The book is filled with haunting longing and a sense that the world is unjust and blind to what people need. This song captures that heavenly struggle of the spirit.

She’s singing as the ghost of Kathy, from the novel Wuthering Heights. She’s returned to speak to Heathcliff, the man who basically rejected her in life. Hence her eerie choice of voice for this role.

Signed by EMI at age 16 with help from David Gilmour, released her first album by 19. This song was from her first tour, which she embarked on at age 20. She was heavily involved in every aspect of the tour, from choreography, set design, musician lineup, arrangement and costume design (I believe there were 17 costume changes). To top it off, the wireless headphone mic, which quickly became commonplace, was invented for this tour to give her the freedom of her expressive dance. The performance was groundbreaking in so many ways. By age 22, she was not only writing, singing, arranging her songs, she began producing it as well. Not everyone loves her voice. She often sang in a high register head voice on her early albums, but heightens it even more for this song as she is portraying a ghost. Her voice matured by her mid twenties into effortless near 4 octave range. Check out songs from the Hounds of Love, Sensual World and Ariel albums for some of her most beautiful vocals.

Thanks for the video Emma, awesome! One of my top artist and top female artists of all time. I hope this version doesn't dissuade you from trying more songs, the sound, mix, or whatever is pretty bad. In my opinion she is amazing, this video doesn't do her justice. People are recommending other songs so I'll try to not do that but wanna say that, from what I understand, she wrote "Man With A Child In His Eyes" when she was only 13. Not my favorite song but it's a pretty song. I love Hounds Of Love and The Dreaming, that's when she took over as producer with no cooperate execs making musical decisions (a pet peeve of mine). Her duet w/Peter Gabriel is also beautiful, makes me tear up every time. I'll shut up, didn't mean to ramble! Thanks for the video and thanks for being awesome!

This video was the encore of a live show as you can tell and she somewhat played down the vocal, in my opinion it does neither the song or Kate justice. The original recording or official video needs to be listened to to fully appreciate her voice and beauty of the song writing. The high pitch was utilised to give a ghostly affect as she is playing the part of Cathy in the Wuthering Heights novel the song is based on at the point Cathy returns to haunt her lover Heathcliffe
