This is very much so theatrical. I could only imagine an entire musical written with this theme, and performed as a musical production. The story behind this song is a good one between mermaid and the devil, and of course the mermaid wins at the end, setting the dolphins free. This piece of music is super technical, and the timing required to pull it off has to be spot on. They all operate with a built in metronome. Great reaction. Thanks to you both. Cheers.

Intense is the word that often comes to mind when I listen to this song. Kai on drums always catches my attention. I think he is going hard, practically non-stop. Floor's ability is on full display and, yes, this shows another way where she and Marko make such a great pair. All in all, a real banger of a song.

Of the top of my head the only song where Marko and Anette really sing together is The Crow, The Owl, and The Dove. A beautiful slow song that rarely gets reacted to and one of my favorites of Anette's. Animated music video is the way to go. It was the winner of a contest by Nuclear Blast records where fans created music videos for the song. The story in the video is heartbreakingly beautiful.

This was the song that truly made me a fan when I got my hands on Oceanborn back in the day. The beginning of the album is amazing and this is the crescendo. The intensity and the darkness of the beginning and the hopeful light in the end is just beautiful. Also Tarja and Tapio Wilska who did the male vocals on the album did an amazing job on this, as do Floor and Marko.

This song is an absolute banger 🤘😎🤘. Kai's drumming in this is just crazy ( Kai Hahto "The Human Metronome", or in my book Kai "The Machine Gun" Hahto )!!! In one interview Tuomas/Marko said that Floor has a lungs of a dolphin (That long note is 💥)!!! Plus, she holds the last note (A4) of Nightwish - Ad Astra for 17 seconds (10/6/2022 Sweden Festival). If this wasn't impressive enough, I can also add than now she's just one, I mean ONE, second short from equaling Pavarotti's longest belt ever recorded. So,.... Nuff Said !!!! Bassist Marko has said that this is a "love song", a poetic, mythological & metaphorical love song of a man (Devil) and woman (Mermaid of the Deep Dark Ocean- the Oceanborn) where she does not return his love or seductions. "I will die for the love of the mermaid, Her seduction, beauty and scorn. Welcome to the end of your life, HAIL the OCEANBORN". This creates chaos in the Mermaids world, “Disgraced is my virginity, death has woven my wedding dress”. As the Mermaid begs “Leave me be!” the Devil says “This apathetic life must drown”. The music then becomes intense and the stage lights turn BLUE (for the Ocean) as the Siren belts out these sharp staccato notes. In the end they break up "setting the dolphins free". Their "song" is over but will “echo” and carry on, "the eternity will begin once again in peace" they both move on. Metal Musical Theater at its best!!!

"Devil & The Deep Dark Ocean" is a _very_ early Nightwish song, from their 'dungeons and dragons' days. (Marko wasn't even a member yet when it was first released.) Tuomas' style has evolved considerably since, which is why it comes across as a bit primitive compared to his current works.

She is having none of it , and manages to get away. Another older Tarja era song, before Marko joined as well. Recorded for the 1998 2nd album, Oceanborn. Vocals by Tarja and guest Tapio Wilska (he used harsh vocals). Sami Vanska on bass back then. Tuomas sang in studio on several songs from the 1st album, he decided he wasn't good enough, and they used guests for any male vocals from then until Marko joined in 2001. Love the back and forth with Marko and Floor here. Steak and potatoes go together great, but don't thoroughly mix like peanut butter and jelly.😁

You might want to check out Tuomas' project "music inspired by the life ant times of Scrooge mc Duck". He was a huge fan of the old comics as a child and made an album about it. The single "a lifetime of adventure" has a video well worth watching. it features the original artist, Don Rosa, of Scrooge drawing a picture during the video. the music is simply haunting and the lyrics are quite deep. It also features his wife Johana Kurkela, a Finnish singer. i thin you and Mrs Coach will very much enjoy it.

I hope you move has not cause family strife. Such a wonderful couple. I know your relationship depends on compromise and love. This is a taste of Nightwish musical theater. Marko as always plays the role of the devil or evil spirit who is pursuing Floor's ocean mother nature mermaid spirit in an attempt to subdue and seduce her. Thankfully even though it seems he does capture her in a nefarious and amorous embrace, she escapes to swim free with the dolphins and the natural order is restored. That's my take on this intense performance. Stay calm, breath deep, and it will get done. Never easy to move. Especially if you have inhabited your current domicile for many years.

The Devil (Marco) tries to entice the Mermaid into his watery domain, but she's having none of it. A song that shows off Floor's more wild vocal possibilities including some real grit in the same phrase as smooth vocals (even more wild in the next song but one in the set, Slaying the Dreamer). Originally, though you could hear the genius was there, this song was underwhelming partly because Tapio only grunted and also because Tarja didn't do any of the wild stuff After this version was released it rapidly rose from wat down my list up to joint 4th (with Dead Boy's Poem from this show).

No apologies necessary. Moving is about as stressful as it gets. Kai is one heck of a drummer. As much as I liked and still like Jukka, Kai brings his own level of kick ass to Nightwish. They don't call him the human metronome for nothin'. The guy is a machine in the best possible connotation. He is amazing. Marko's vocals are just off the charts. He is sorely missed. Now the fun starts - puttin' all that stuff away in your new place. We moved from California to Arkansas in 2017 in our late 60's - NEVER AGAIN
