The cheerleaders I think has a keyrole to the meaning of the song. They are in all the different dimenisons in this video. They seem to resemble leaders of society feeding citiciens with "angst" to keep them under check. They are bringing Till to the podium, locking in the wires and feeding propaganda and fear out to the world. They are then seen bringing bricks for the characters to build the walls, cameras, rifles even. We see them *cheering* for the characters shooting. They are also the ones smeering the characters with the goo type stuff, which I think is the angst taking over.
@Arbaaltheundefeated Жыл бұрын
Actually, I took the goo-smearing to mean something quite different, notice the "mad demagogue" himself has it too from the start. The goo is white, smeared over their black faces. *They* were the "black man" all along, hiding their darkness to profit from the fear they were spreading.

The epilogue is pretty epic if you catch all these nasty details: The band watches TV showing two african children fenced off somewhere far far away minding their own business, while the black girl actually watches THEM watching TV on her smartphone, creating a loop of fear and surveillance. but once Till starts smashing the TV, the loop is broken and colors return to both their worlds again. Craving surveillance is a sign of fear, as fear feeds from irrationality like paranoia. If you get rid of it, fear will eventually loosen its grip on you and (hopefully) fade away.

Explanation about "black man" and "boogeyman": the lyrics mean both because as a child everyone was scared of the boogeyman and nowadays a few people (especially in Germany since the refugee crisis) are scared of black men who come to their country. It's like some Americans are scared of Mexicans who cross the border. Rammstein uses the boogeyman phrases because they're not related to racism just to explain the racism in the minds of those people. The computers & wires represent social media and how people are loosing theirselfes by moving deeper and deeper into the vortex of such mindsets and the reason for all of that are algorithms who show you even more of such fearful fake informations just to keep you in front of the screen and therefore as a customer of their services. In the end those slaves of obsession become "believers" who shoot each other until everything breaks apart.
@onkelbo78972 жыл бұрын
Some easter eggs in the video: - In the beginning they're lifting their left arms (which from our perspective looks like the right arm which was "the" nazi symbol in the 1940's) while cleaning their front yard to hide their dirty minds - in the end sequence theyre eating some sweets that were formerly called "negro kiss" (until the 1980's) in Germany - right after that occurrence, Till smashes the TV and while he does that, the picture changes vom black&white back to color
@AstorThalis2 жыл бұрын
@@onkelbo7897 On point. The change from black/white to color is a really interesting connotation. It shows that not much has changed about the Angst of western people in the last couple of decades about humans of other skin colour, culture and religion (black/white - before WW2; washed out colours - colour television came shortly after WWII; full colours - represents the present). Media still has a huge impact on how they see the world, which really can poison their mind. For example: If a refugee or non-(insert western nationality here) does something really bad, the news are broadcasting the case for months but the hundreds of violent crimes done by white people are only worth talking a few days. If they are not hushed up completely, which is the standard. Another interesting detail is the end where you can see the refugees have a smartphone which is pretty much damaged. The reason why Till is destroying the TV is because of a famous German quote in extreme right-wing groups who are saying that refugees doesn't need help if they are rich enough to own a smartphone and that they should go back to their own country - those quotes often include death wishes and other kinds of aggression. Of course this is far from reality, because smartphones are no luxury goods anymore and even if, that wouldn't change the reality about those people needing help when their country became hell. The barbwire around them represents European refugee camps which are more like detention camps robbing those people from their freedom.
@perelachaise11562 жыл бұрын
No wonder. The so-called refugees brought us the Nigerian Mafia and lots of criminals. This Rammstein song is the real propaganda. They show a woman and a child but most of these people are grown men. They are not refugees, They are immigrants.

This is interesting. To understand the song, it’s a good idea to look up the lyrics in your own language. I saw the term ‘black man’. I happen to know that this is a German euphemism for the bogey man. . In other words, it is a fictional entity that German parents - or more specifically, according to the first verse, fathers - use to scare their children into behaving as instructed even when daddy is not around to provide discipline. Fundamentally, what this song is putting forth is that being indoctrinated with such fear in our youth is not a good thing. But why? Simply because since “the Black Man” doesn’t actually exist, what we end up doing is developing the practice of guarding ourselves against threats that aren’t really out there. Well, that’s my interpretation, I’m happy to be corrected. Powerful song, and in typical Rammstein style, there is an agenda. Great reaction.
@yasminesteinbauer85652 жыл бұрын
The black man (schwarzer Mann) likely originally meant the Grim Reaper. But in the video, the term is definitely ambiguous since the subject is xenophobia. The scene with the lawn mowers is symbolic of the Spießbürgertum (I'm not sure what the correct translation is. Philistinism? Approx. conservative small-towner) where fear and racism are often found hidden. They care about lawn care and sit comfortably in front of the TV eating a candy that had a politically incorrect name, while they lock out refugees with barbed wire because they are afraid of them. And they even arm themselves and build walls. But in the end, fear leads to the collapse of the whole neighborhood and swallows them up. The smashing of the TV at the end I would interpret as a call to look at the world not only through the screen. Because the best way to fight fear of strangers is to meet them in person.
@birminghamchris93772 жыл бұрын
@@yasminesteinbauer8565 …You’ve said it..ambiguous. I suspect in typical Rammstein style, they leave the interpretation of their lyrics to the listener. Your interpretation is with merit. Maybe though the TV sets etc are red herrings, or maybe they have a definitive significance. Maybe we are both wrong.
@fluxx28752 жыл бұрын
@@yasminesteinbauer8565 I would see that even more on politics and the current situation. The cheerleaders are supporters of the various politicians, fear is spread through the media until it eventually escalates and everything collapses. The same thing happened in WWII and in the current conflicts. "Schwarzer Mann" is of course a pun on racism. But well summarized, the Rammstein songs naturally have a lot of room to interpret.
@toweri_li2 жыл бұрын
The entire phrase is "Who is afraid of the black man". This was a very common play in my childhood, where one player, the initially designated "black man", stood in the center, and all the others formed a line on one side. Then the "black man" shouted "Who's afraid of the black man?!" to which everyone replied "Not me!" and then tried to run past the "black man" to reach another line on the opposing side. Anyone touched by the "black man" before reaching the other side line was to be the next "black man". We played this often when I was some 8-10 years of age - early 70's. Girls and boys all together. We never thought the "black man" anything else but a generic, universal, nondescript "bogey man" kind of thing - a thing to be avoided in the contex of the play, to not get caught. There was *zero* connotations to e.g. non-white people. "Black man" was simply a metaphor to something that children would run away from. Necessary ingredient of the play.

The cheerleader moves including the chanting in the beginning and the end are probably referencing the "Haka Dance" done by the Maori, the indigenous people of New Zealand. It is supposed to intimidate your opponent. Rumour has it that Oliver Riedel, the band's bass player, is one of the cheerleaders. But that has not been confirmed yet, AFAIK. The candy which the band eats in the end was called "Negerküsse" "Negro Kisses" back in the day. The name was changed a couple of years ago.

Just some remarks: The several times mentioned "Schwarze Mann" ("black man") is known as a child fright figure in the German-speaking area ("Wer hat Angst vorm Schwarzen Mann" = Who does fear the black man). Depending on the region and time, it was understood to mean different beings: a dark shadowy figure or a man dressed in black. As a metaphor, the "bogeyman" reached a "peak" as personalization of evil, savagery, and the unknown in the course of colonization, and in the process also acquired a racist connotation. In this context, I find the consumption of those sweets (German so-called "negro kisses") at the end during the end credits very interesting, which work through this "black man" symbolism. Also the colors usage is interesting (Black/White/Red representing the Nazi-color Spectrum). I also found it interesting at the end of the credits that when the TV was destroyed, the color came back into the picture. Further, I noticed that the pie-like plots seen from above correspond to the "political symbol" at the lectern where the singer, wearing a straitjacket, gives his speech. After these borders & plots collapse during the wild shoot-out, the politician, unleashed by the straitjacket to spread his propaganda/fear. Cheering on the cheerleaders is the equivalent of pitching an idea/product and the dancers are slammed with money to sell the bricks and guns to the landowners. This Clip has many layers and can be interpreted in many directions. I see there is a statement on xenophobia and populism/media.

Rammstein has one of the strongest global fan bases of any artist group; and for them it is all the more accurate to refer to them as artists than 'just' musicians or composers. They're so much more, and a note on one of your thoughts; given the amount of thought and the context that these productions are based around there really isn't any element of "humor" intended. It's a lot of overexaggerating certain aspects to make a point or to continue making the existing point. The guy laying down kissing the gun is kind of a funny image out of context but it does have a very strong meaning behind the exaggerations depicted. I like the format of your thoughts on the screen vs interrupting the video; although I don't mind the occasional stop and talk. I think that's part of a reaction video might help shorten things down a bit but that may be intentional and that's just my opinion on that take it or leave it! >:D

These get primal fears of loss from the cheerleaders by strongly cheering these feelings into the brain. In the machine gun passage, the screens are located at the narrowest part of each room (narrowmindedness?), making it the center of their collective walled-in structure (culture?). When they start shooting at the negativity-spewing screens out of fear/madness (forming a LITERAL circular firing squad) they end up destroying the core that sustains their entire existence. Even without the lyrics, the visuals alone are beyond awesome.

I think the lawnmower destroying the tv was symbolic of the past destroying the unnecessary fear, as if there was nothing to be afraid of. As we see them mowing their lawns when they were together and happy and then when the unnecessary fear of these scary neighbours came in and changed it all, then they use something from the good times to destroy the unnecessary fear and the colour comes into their lives again. Hi.

You came back several times in your comments to the colour scheme - white, red and black. Actually, these are the colours of the German flag from the 1800's till 1945. It is not a coincidence, I think.

It’s of note that the song seems to be in reference to the large black Muslim emigrations to Germany… how the German people don’t like them as they poop in the streets and completely don’t follow German culture bore respect the German people who own the land. Further more with many incidents like the rape of cologne Germany being done by these third world emigrants… many people completely don’t trust them, for good reason. A massively large majority of the places these emigrants have settled are 100% unsafe to be for blonde German women who don’t wear hijab and such things… why should the German people be forced to adhere to visitors rules or standards. It’s quite frankly has a majority of Germans extremely angry.
@thelikebutton24642 жыл бұрын
Don’t forget… the rape of cologne Germany was when a large group of emigrant men brutally raped a large number of German women, mostly blonde women and even 1 or more of those women were killed. Forced emigration into Germany or anywhere is vile and evil as it destroys goodness and decency.
