One funny thing is that McDonald's in the northern towns of Luleå, Piteå and Skellefteå had to close down in early 2000 due to lack of profitability because everyone favored Max.

McDonald's wanted to establish themselves in Piteå in the late 70s. It slipped out that a girl they had hired was a member of 'Hotell- & restaurang-anställdas förbund' - a trade union organising workers at hotels and restaurants - so MC's sacked her. She had MANY friends at the high-school. Yes. Where most of their customers spent their days. There was a efficient boycott, and they had to close.

They closed in Umeå in the late 90's as well, but reopened later... only to shut down in the city center earlier this year. They have a few places on the outskirts of the town though. lol

Well I go to Max becouse they have only meat from Sweden (we have strict rules about how to keep animals like in regards to antibiotics and more) and they have an extensive vegetarian menu as well. For the farmers in Sweden this is important to them and with vegetarian alt you do make it visual that you actually have a choice. One thing, you can taste every ingredient in a Max burger I think. That is fresh and real!

I had my first hamburger at Max before they even were Max - the year was 1968 and the founder started his business in this small town where I grew up; 100 km's North of the Arctic Circle. At that time the burger place was located at a gas station - now the company has some 200 restaurants in five countries. After 55 years I still prefer Max hamburgers - they still taste better than any other brand I have tried.

The best thing about Max is the Frisco burger bun (the one showed without sesame seeds; it has crushed semolina instead). You can buy them, and some other Max stuff, at the store as well. Idk what it is about that bread, but it's the best. And they have so many great veg options.

I know I'm the odd one, but I actually don't like the frisco bun, I don't really know why, there is something with the bun that doesn't ticle my taste. I think that it is too sweet or something. But other than that, Max is a really good place to eat.

The frisco bun is made with a blend of wheat flour, potato starch, semolina flour and malted barely flour to give a it dense texture that toasts really well and once toasted it doesn't really want to absorb liquids, so it doesn't get soggy like other buns do. By ancient Max traditions, the crew that works the closing shift on sunday evenings celebrate the end of the working weekend with deep fried frisco buns and ice cream.

Omg yes I LOVE Max, everything there just feels so much healthier and fresher. And their fries are AMAZING, they are so crispy and so REAL, there is even still potato peel left on them.

A difference between MAX and McDonalds is that MAX make your burger on demand. So it´s always fresh made. At McD they might have sat on wait for 10-20 minutes or more

Max fries are both the best and the worst fries of any fast food place, they are super thin and crispy and tasty, but they get cold and stale so fast. So the first 2-3 minutes the fries are a 10 out of 10, and after that they drop all the way down to like a 3 out of 10. Side note, their Chocolat "lyx shake" is really good, and their chicken nuggets actually taste like chicken.

We have McDonalds and Burger King everywhere in Sweden, but if you ever get the choice to go to Max - it is just premium and wins everytime

Even though I'm Swedish I didn't find out about Max until I was in my 20's, because they were more of a Northern/East coast thing and I'm from the West coast. But they are amaaaaaazing, especially because they've been doing good quality vegetarian/vegan burgers for a long time, with a huge selection. No other fast food place does vegetarian food as well as Max, other than proper falafel places in the South. Once when I was a little drunk I wrote an official email to Max asking them to open a restaurant closer to my apartment. :P

Max is my go-to place when i want some good fastfood and i usually order a Tripple cheese menu, Frisco menu or sometimes Spicy Avocado menu (only available now and then). And i usually take the spicy fries or creole fries instead or regular fries. Then i love the chilicheese balls as a side 🤤

Max fries with the hot cheese sauce it just... Chefs Kiss! Thy keep the skin on so they taste like real potatoes and they are so nice and crispy.

mc donalds. max or any other..the best one is the original sibylla here in sweden, so nothing compares to sibylla. fresh made nothing premade with weird ingredients.

Sibylla is a hit or miss. It's good ingredients, but how tasty depends on the chef a lot as it's not as standardized as the other fast food places. My favorite burger joint had this massive double 150g burger with shrimp salad. Saved you from eating the next day as well.

I agree it can be a hit and miss with the smaller chains, but generally I would put the order as follows: Sibylla, Max, Burgerking and lastly Mc Donalds. For all the reasons of quality mentioned above and the clip.

MAX is my favorite hamburger place in Sweden. I often order the "Friscomål" with Sourcream & Pepper dip. I don´t know if it´s healthier with fast food here than in other places in the world. 😀

5:17 most asians have less spices for thier ''spicy'' foods here in the western world, cus we arent too used to it. So yea can be hard to get real asian level spicy, but for most of us its spicy

I grew up on MAX ...well not really.. but it's been my place of choice since forever. To be fair - growing up in the north of Sweden, it was pretty much the only burger joint available. (ofc there were other places selling burgers, but those were either one of those 'street vendors' or a regular restaurant with some burger on the menu.) These days we have Macdonalds and some other places, but If I had to pick a favourite - it'd have to be MAX.

Max is definitely good but there are better places. They are best among the 3 biggest ones though (according to me). It's become extremely expensive but I guess that happened to most fast food places in Sweden. You could get a pizza or Maxmål for 50kr maybe 10-15 years ago and now it's atleast 100kr.

Yes, growing up in northern Sweden but now been living in Far North Queensland for 20 odd years, I must say I miss Max burgers. Back in the days they used to have a meal called the Tex Mex meal… yum. The Max burger chain was started by a man named Curt Bergfors who in the 1970’s had a food van selling hot dogs in the small town of Gällivare in northern Sweden. He then bought a small burger place in Luleå. A few years later McDonald’s opened up a restaurant in Luleå but the people of Luleå were very loyal to the already established Max restaurant so McDonald’s actually closed down their restaurant. Back then in the 1980’s, Luleå was the only town in the entire world where McDonald’s had to close down due to not being profitable (!) And yeah, spicy in Sweden is not really what we call spicy as such… 😂

If there are a MAX available you don't choose McDonalds. Their slogan for a long time was something like "We don't grill you burger before you order". As a contrast to McDonalds and Burger King with their finished burgers waiting and getting stale on a heat rack.

It's been decades since both McDOnalds and Burger King stopped making burgers in advance and only make to order.. Just like Max. Their stuff just doesn't taste as good as Max.

In Sweden, Burger King can be on this level too actually, including patties that don't look as processed. That first burger is Max's version of Big Mac or a double Whopper, not a standard double cheeseburger off the cheap menu. MacDonalds's... eh, it never reaches the lows that a bad Max or BK sometimes does (when those franchises are bad, they're _bad_ ), but it never reaches those highs either. And Max can reach somewhat higher than BK. Do not go to those sort of places for truly spicy food though. We are general Western European spicy, not even Britain spicy (I have heard about your curries). Some of us very much like hot food though.

Max is probably the best burger chain place, but there are of course much better burger places, but out of the "macdonaldy" burger places Max is probably the best choice in Sweden, the best reason to go to Max is their melted cheese dip for the fries, it is the only reason I can choose it over some other fast food 🙂

5:00 Spicy food is not very prevalent in Sweden. I think a lot of Swedish people like spicy food but Swedish cuisine barely have any spices in it other than pepper and salt, western/northern european cuisine in general is weak in terms of spice. All kebab shops have "starksås" which is a spicy sauce, but it isn't very spicy. Me personally love spicy food so that's kind of a bummer for me, but when I go abroad and try "spicy food" i'm always shocked that it is so much spicyer. It's great but I have to get used to it lol

McDonalds = dehydrated hiccups Burger King = desert Max = really tasty but anti-Swedish Frasses (hard to find outside of northern Sweden) = simply best (well after any barbecue kiosk) Simply, Max and Fresses actually test like food. It is not dry, and it doesn't give you hiccups. I do think that Max is too juicy, it is a bit much. But since they don't want Swedish people to work there, I don't buy there - I rather go hungry.

When it comes to spicy food, i would say in general, no we don't have spicy food up here. We have "Swedish spicy", but that's not actually spicy in comparison to SEA for example. If we were to always choose the spiciest option here, we would still be at "medium" heat in Thailand 😂

1. Max nowadays is sadly hard to judge. The good ones can be among the best fast food, and the worse ones are uneatable. They used to always be among the best. 2. Max fries are super depend on how fresh they are. As soon as they start getting cold, they get stale then hard instead of soggy like most other places. As for taste in fries, that is a unique thing, since different people like different types of fries. For me, the best would be BK because I like slightly thicker fries. 3. For spicy, I would say it depends on where you go. Some places are not spicy at all and some are insanely spicy, for fast food I would say the ones with the spiciest food is MC, because their spicy nuggets have slight heat, and they have the only actually spicy sauce. For good spicy food, it is Indian, Thai, and Chinese food that you can get it if you go to the right places. Just look at the costumers or google rewies, and you will know. BK actually do chicken really well in Sweden, I have yet to have a good chicken burger from MAX because it is hard to find good MAX in the far south.

Burger King had to close because the customers did not come, after only four years. In our city - Östersund! Then MAX started in the same premises and there are always people who go there, Max with the 2nd restaurant (I think they are 150th in Sweden) and in my opinion the best of the best Many choices and have not come across anything that is bad , Their salads are super...and so on!

MAX originated up in Luleå in Northern Sweden. But if you think MAX is good, you should try another hamburger franchise that only exists in Northern Sweden, Frasses. They outdo MAX on most points, especially the fries.

Yes, definatly healthier. Their fries must have gotten cold. However, fries is just one of the options. You can chose potato gratin instead for example (or at least you could - haven't eaten there in years). Meat is for sure fresher and less processed - it does come from local farms after all. It has nothing on Japanese fast food like Coco Ichibanya, but as far as europe goes, it's up there.

If I have a choice I will always choose Max before any other burgers, not only McDonalds and Burger King but also more "fancy" places like Brödernas and Bastard Burgers. Several comments about their vegetarian and vegan altenatives but they also have a low carb option called Salad wrap burger, no bread but wrapped in iceberg salad instead.

Fried potatoes are VERY BAD for your health first of all because of the chemical reaction that happens... But if you choose not to get "French Fries" and go for onion rings or carrots or whatever then i'd say MAX actually have good quality stuff :) (Potatoes are awesome by the way! just not when they are being fried - check the scientific facts if you dont believe me.) Max was the best burger restaurant by far like 3-5 years ago but it has plumited into the abyss they are still way better than burger king or mcdonalds though. Their burgers used to be real burgers not some Shoebottom with a slice of filthy cheese on. They had cheese fries that were like 30% cheese now they are only 10% or 5% cheese. And at the same time food quality has plumited prices have skyrocketed

Not terribly fond of Max, but then, don't like any of the fast food hamburger joints, small bland, settles in the stomach like a brick. ;) I prefer "real" hamburgers. The local Texas Longhorn used to have one called T.K.O. (The Knock Out) 400grams of meat divided in two patties, with bacon, jalapeños and stuff, it was awesome. Then they decided to go all PC, two thirds of the menu vanished overnight, and of what was left half became "green alternatives" Never went there again and this was a place that was pretty much ALWAYS packed, even on week days. It wasn't long at all before they went out of business after that.

MAX is by far better then McDonalds and Burger King. It's better all around quality on the food at MAX. But if you ever visit Sweden, then you need to go to Svenska Hamburgarköket (The Swedish Hamburger Kitchen) in Tellusborgsvägen, Midsmommarkransen at Stockholm. Best burgers you'll ever found.

The burgers, sides and shakes at Max are way better than McDonalds. The fries are a bit lackluster though, I have to say. They're not bad but they've never quite gotten them right. At least in my humble opinion.

while my hometowns local fastfood place älvåkragrillen is THE BEST, MAX is by far better, then the other options out there. I tried eating at burgerking tasted really bad, same with McDs. If you are just hungry and need something fast eat and dont care about taste eat BK or McD, but if you want to actually enjoy the food MAX for sure.

I like McDonalds for what it is. But MAX just feels like they have taken it a step further. They took what McDonalds does and made it better, fresher and overall just more pleasant. Higher standards. MAX doesn't feel like fast food in the same way that McDonalds does. It's hard to describe, it is something you will have to experience to understand. They are the same, as in both are fast food. But they are not equal. If McDonalds is a 5/10 max is a 8/10.

To be honest i don't love max i think it's decent. Better than burger king, i think their fries and sweet potato fries are really good and i love their chocolate shakes. There burgers arent bad but the small cheap burgers are tiny, and their big ones are a bit on the expensive side i think. They have good sauces, and it feels more burgery..but its in no way like a resturant burger. it's a nice fast food burger. I think their chicken nuggets are good and crispy. I like sibylla though, but that may vary alot depending on in which city they are. If i were to rate swedish fast food burger chains by taste it would be: Bastard Burgers, Max, Mcdonalds, Sibylla, Burger King. But if i choose the ranking when i include the prices: I would most rather go to Mcdonalds, then Sibylla, then Bastard Burgers, then Max and last Burger King. but i really love the sloppy mess of a burger you get at mcdonalds, it doesnt even taste like burger, it's something else. If i had to choose a favourite burger place it would maybee be like bastard burgers in sweden, their chain does burgers like a resturant would but its still a fast food chain. it's real beef from minced meat they prepare for u, so it's super juicy and well seasoned. however they are expensive.

I love max vego. Max has better Vego alternatives. Like vego Nuggets are super good, halloumi burger super good, plant beef super good. Max sell plant beef and bread in the store to so I can get the goods to Cook at home too. Their vego Nuggets taste better then chicken nuggets My dad is not a fan of their fries but I think they taste healthier then McDonalds. So if I was more fat food I go for McDonalds. Healthier Max
