Great choice! Todrick has a real talent in his colabs. Superfruit and Kirstie colabed with Todrick on another of his projects, it's called Black and White. Awesome jam! Check it out! PTX did a wonderful job executing this one! Their background in musical theater helped no doubt! Modern day songs to retell the story of the Wizard of Oz! Genius! Matt is not with the group yet. That is Todrick. Kirstie like thirsty! Great reaction! Thank you for this!

This video was Todrick Hall's creative project. He choreographed everything and Pentatonix did everything else. They've known each other since their high school days where Todrick was a few years ahead of the Scott, Kirsty and Mitch. They've modernized the songs in this video but still paid tribute to the original movie (Todrick's favorite movie and the dog is Todrick's dog named Toto after the dog in the Wizard of Oz). Kirsty plays the parts of 3, Dorothy, The Witch of the North and the Wicked Witch of the West. Kevin plays the part of Toto. Scott plays the part of Scarecrow with the song 'Do you think about me' (brain). Mitch plays the part of Tin Man, with the song of Damaged (his heart). Avi plays the part of Lion with the song 'I can't be tamed' (courage). Scott, Avi and Mitch play the part of the Munchkin men and Todrick plays the part of the Wizard of Oz. When they all sing together, Mitch is holding a heart, Scott is holding a certificate and Avi has a medalion around his neck for courage. The monkey on Todrick's shoulder plays the part of the Wicked Witch of the West's monkey army. The green around Todrick represents the 'Emerald City'. Notice too that they are paying tribute to the original movie clips, played above their heads.

I think the word you were looking for to describe Kirstie is theatrical. She has appeared on Broadway in Kinky Boots. Enjoying your reactions.
@bill.godwin-austen2 жыл бұрын
Kirstie definitely has a musical theater background. She performed in various theatrical productions growing up, and in high school. She was majoring in Musical Theater at U. of Oklahoma when Scott called her (as well as their friend Mitch "The Trio" grew up together in Arlington, TX) when he was looking to form what became Pentatonix to compete in "The Sing-Off" on NBC. Her given name is Kirstin, but also uses the diminutive/nickname form "Kirstie"

Kirstin herself has said to pronounce her name so that it rhymes with "thirsty"--Kirstie. I'm really happy you reacted to this one, well, to ANY Pentatonix song. And yeah, Todrick Hall is VERY talented and versatile. You can see his amazing choreography in "Nails, Hair, Hips, Heels" (48M views); his hilarious parody style in "Beauty and the Beat"; and serious social commentary set to music in "Ordinary Day." He's worked with Pentatonix several times and even parodies them in "Pentatodrix." You should check him out :-)

He was on Broadway and American Idol, and built a KZbin following with original songs and parodies (including one where he plays all the members of PTX). This is one of the greatest things about PTX... everyone gets to shine, depending on the requirements of the project. No egos, just excellent collaboration. Not sure how much you know about the original 1939 movie, The Wizard of Oz, with Judy Garland, but this was a FABULOUS interpretation, using modern songs to illustrate the major plot points and themes of the iconic story. A wonderfully creative production by Todrick, and the early musical theatre experience that Mitch, Scott and Kirstie (rhymes with thirsty) shared certainly enhanced their performances. Some quick notes for those watching PTX videos out of order: From 2011-2015, Scott and Mitch were the principle lead vocalist on songs. Avi and Kirstie may have a solo line or 2 on a couple of songs, but were mostly background or rhythm. The time of their first Christmas album, Kevin would start singing some lines--but mostly as a treat surprise--often at the end of a song. It wasn't until their 3 album that Avi actually had an entire song to himself, and their originals album where Kirstie had a song to herself. Around 2016 they started sharing lead vocals on most songs. "Wizard of Ahhs" was the first time all of us had a chance to hear her sing fully other than her lines on "Starship" and "Can't Hold Us."

Matt did not start until after Avi left as his replacement in late 2017. Prior to 2017 Christmas it will always be Avi Kaplan. Avi hardly ever was heard singing melody in Pentatonix or anything out of his lower bass register. It confuses reactors when they get to Light In the Hallway or Standing By if they don't use a video and think it has to be Scott instead of Avi singing. Avi's debut album due out May 20th, produced by Shooter Jennings, will change that.

Kirstin (aka Kirstie) attended the University of Oklahoma to study musical theater in a scholarship, however, she left before finishing to form Pentatonix with Scott, Mitch, Avi and Kevin to compete on The Sing-Off. Fast forward to 2018, when she made her Broadway debut playing one of the lead roles in Kinky Boots. Todrick Hall is a multi-talented showman - he can sing, act, dance, choreograph, costume design and write compelling original music. Like Scott, he auditioned for several singing competition shows. I think he made it as far as Hollywood week on one of the early seasons of American Idol. He has lots of covers on his KZbin channel, as well as hilarious parody skits and original music. He has a self-admitted obsession with all things related to The Wizard of Oz, the inspiration for this video project with Pentatonix. Along the same Oz theme, he released a semi-autobiographical visual album entitled "Straight Outta Oz" in 2016. The songs are all original but uses Oz themes as allegory for real events that happened in his life. Scott, Kirstin and Mitch from Pentatonix are featured in the track "Black & White". Featured artists on other tracks include Nicole Scherzinger, Jordin Sparks, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Amber Riley, Raven Symoné, Tamar Braxton, Tracie Thoms, Shoshana Bean (you saw her in Pop Goes Broadway with Superfruit), Jay Armstrong Johnson and RuPaul. You can watch the entire visual album as one long video on Todrick's channel but most of the songs have also been uploaded separately. My personal favourite is "Papi, feat. Nicole Scherzinger"

Does Todrick have more? 😂 The PTX rabbit hole connects to other rabbit holes which lead to more rabbit holes.... I highly recommend Straight Outta Oz, Todrick's visual album that is an autobiographical journey featuring other artists too. You can watch the whole thing on youtube, it's about an hour long. Each song can be viewed as an individual video if you search it with the title & his name, but hearing him narrating to connect one to the next with his personal story makes the songs' meanings even better. As others mentioned Scott, Mitch & Kirstie feature in one of those songs, called Black & White.

I strongly second this recommendation. The songs all have some "connection" to the Wizard of Oz, even if it's only the song name. "Over the Rainbow" is one of the most heartfelt songs about being a gay child in a straight household I've ever heard. It is beautiful to watch. I also love "Lyin' to Myself" and "Papi." That last one features the lead singer of The Pussycat Dolls, Nicole Scherzinger, and MAN, does her voice hit the rafters.

PS: You have to watch Superfruit's Frozen Medley (with Kirsten) and Defying Gravity (featuring Mitch, from Wicked, another Wizard of Oz story) if you really want to see the trio in their musical theater personas. They grew up doing shows together (there is a Superfruit video of some really early performances), and that theatrical bent really shines in certain songs. Scott, to me, is more suited to do pop. But Mitch and Kirstie would be incredible on Broadway, although I don't know if Kirstie is interested in doing another show after Kinky Boots, especially now that she's going to be a mommy. And it seems like I've heard Mitch say he's too shy. We'll see. Doing voice-overs for a Disney film would also be really cool.

They were in the men's bathroom at the Chrysler building... and security waited until they were done to make them leave 😅 kzbin.info/www/bejne/eYmtgYKvZ5p9bq8 Todrick was also in a number of Superfruit vlogs amd vice versa. Sometimes doing singing-type challenges. He and the trio are all from Arlington and though he's a few years older and went to a different school they did some choir or theater stuff together long before any of them got famous. Rumor is they had a falling out shortly after doing the Black & White video. True or not... that was their last collaboration.

Good Lord do some research. And watch a video with Matt in it since he has been in Pentatonix for half a decade at this point he has a track record.

If you want more fun with mythic settings, try Princess Rap Battles by Whitney Avalon, "Dorothy vs Alice", in other words, Oz vs Wonderland.

They did not need to choose a bass until Avi left. So Matt is not part of pentatonix when Avi is there. It would help you more if you read the timeline of their story so as you're watching their videos you will understand.
