"K..rwa" is a vulgar word - a cultured person tries not to use it. You probably won't hear it on TV or the radio, and if it appears in songs, it's beeped. But in some (mainly male) environments, "k..rwa" is used like a comma. For most people, "k..wa" is an exclamation word, emphasizing strong emotions - positive or negative. This word is probably the least frequently used as a noun - it is in its original meaning - a vulgar term for a woman engaged in prostitution. Sometimes it is used as a vulgar term for a venal or treacherous person. It is crossing the red line and a gross insult to tell someone to her/his face that she/he is a "k..rwa".

The "K.wa" means "sl*t" or "wh*re" if you like. We use it pretty much as a f-word in English.

Please ignore what the three guys that are together are saying. Why? The guy in the middle, which is clearly the one doing most of the talking, is the type of 'cool bad boy'. He doesn't even think of what's true, he's just saying what suits that image. The two others aren't talking much, and when they do, it's hard to say whether they're not just following that guys example. The married couple and the duo of girls are the ones down to earth that are saying how it is for the most part. As for responding to the myths themselves, well, I reckon there's enough response to that below.

I'm from Poland and I don't like vodka, I prefer liqueur or wine, or beer in small quantities.😐The truth is that vodka is drunk on various occasions, not on weekdays, normal days. It is also not true that Polish men only work physically. My husband works as a senior engineer and deals with radars in cars and infotainment in car.

As for alcohol, vodka is mostly used for the celebration. Though some older people drink it regularly. Most younger people drink variety of alcohols, but vodka is still default celebration drink. So yes. It is both true and false, depending on the context.

In fact it make sense. Beer, what is also extremely common in Poland, even more then vodka. Take a lot of space and is used only when logistic allow, like in bar. Or with smaller groups organized around the event like Grill/BBQ or Sport TV event. Wine, well, not everyone like wines. Used rarely only during fancy diners. Whisky is extremely expansive, rich people drink. But vodka can be and is used literally at any situation.

The K***** word is a swear word and not everyone uses it, please bear that in mind. Some people don't use it at all, some use it only when they are pissed totally, and some people use it instead of commas (which I find disgusting and distasteful). Same goes with drinking vodka. it is true that many Poles drink vodka but not everybody drinks it and the worst kind of a person I find is the one who blackmails you into drinking vodka by saying something like "what, you're not gonna drink with ME???!!"

The word Kur...a is obscene and you shouldn't use it in company because it will make you look like a simpleton. Yes, I use it when I'm alone and, for example, when I hit my finger with a hammer, but never in public. Alcohol was abused during communism, but now vodka is drunk at home celebrations and holidays, but I prefer wine. In fact, there are many people with higher education in Poland because it is one of the few countries in Europe where higher education is free. Polish women are wonderful, they are mostly university graduates, especially the younger generation, they are enterprising and I think that they are the ones who want things at home, while men can do everything and fix everything - women are respected, that's why men are gallant. Polish women like to dress casually, but depending on the location or event, they can dress up nicely. In general, Poles are culturally different from the rest of Europe, they have a greater identity due to the tragic history of fighting for the independence of their country, and it may be difficult for them to accept people from Asia or Africa (I'm talking about the native inhabitants of Africa) around them, who look different, have different cultures or philosophers of life. That is why 99 percent are Poles and the rest are nations related to history and our neighbors; Germans, Ukrainians, Belarusians, Jews and our Muslim Tatars who have been living in our lands since the Middle Ages have been very pro-Polish. And recently, many foreigners have been settling in Poland from Sweden, Germany and England, fed up with life in their countries because of the so-called they are fed up with multiculturalism, too many emigrants and they feel unsafe in their countries.

"Kurwa" is a multitool in polish. It can be used as a coma, it can be used as an expression word. And we are talking literally any expression - from sad, to happy, surprised and disappointed. As I said, it is a multitool :) Closest English word to it would be "fu*k"

I think you nailed it at the end. The stereotypes are mostly true about older generations (now in their 60's or older). Nowadays: people prefer beer, don't say kurwa as much (unless they are poorly educated beacuse it is considered rude), are not into petty crimes (they have better things to do). I think the stereotype with vodka started with the fact that in the communist era there wasn't any good quality alcohol available (beer was disgusting, wine terrible, only vodka was good enough as with it's 40% of alcohol content you probably don't feel much taste anyway). Nowadays Poland has brilliant beer (learned how to brew it from the bordering Czechia and Germany). About the Polish women always looking well dressed - it's somewhat true, when compared to some other nations. Czech women are much more into causal/sporty look (I noticed that when living 5 years in Prague). Geman women tend to dress in a not flashy way (I noticed that when living 2 years in Bavaria). Polish women like to show off how they look on the street (clothes, makeup, etc.). As for people being not tolerant - unfortunately it's somewhat true, that's why we had our populist conservative government in the last 8 years (anti immigrant, anti muslim, anti lgbt) - it's slowly changing for the better though. I definitely agree with the stereotype of Poles always complaining and criticising - it's a terrible trait we have engraved in our DNA - hopefully it will change in the future generations.

As to intolerance of Poles towards other nations, it basically boils down to two factors: 1. the type of person a given Pole is (ranging from the most open ones who welcomes absolutely everyone, all the way to a total xenophobe/nationalist who would only see Poles in Poland and nobody else, and everything in between), 2. the nationality/race/religion of the foreigner. Some nationalities, races and/or religions are more welcome/tolerated in general, while some other ones are not so welcome (which, personallly, as the citizen of the world that I consider myself to be, I find repulsive and completely incomprehensible).

In short. Kurwa, what mean whore (or bent in German, in fact word curvy have same rout) can be used same way as English speakers use word "Fuck". Poles are just more creative because it is contextual language. In fact word "jebać" (what translate directly as Fuck) and replace any verb, while still being recognizable what it is about. But you need understand variation really well.

Warm vodka is disgusting don't ever do that. By the way if you fell warm in your throat it's not good quality vodka when you feel warm in your belly it's good. Next thing we are just as real as we can be. Life is hard, people are strong and don't smile a lot and it does not mean we're negative all the time especially if you look up our history we're very positive. It takes time and effort to know us but when you do it's worth it. We do travel now but the borders opened after 1989 so you have what 30 years of people to be able to travel if they had money. Much of the stuff comes from our history when you know it, all becomes very very clear. I recommend that you study last 100yeas of Polish history it will be worth it and it's very interesting.

1. kurwa in the default form is a noun meaning "bitch/whore", but it's also used as supplementary word that works as emphasis (exactly the same way as english "fuck") 2. it's kind of true - i say kind of because beer is much bigger in Poland as the go-to-drink. Vodka is drank during bigger parties where everyone sits at the table (weddings, birthdays etc). Also noone likes vodka. We say that there's something wrong with you if you enjoy the taste. It's treated more like obligation than treat. 4. polonia in US/Canada is old emigration (people who managed to emigrate before or during communism), since end of communism it's not considered as good destination for emigration - European countries win by a long shot. 5. I used to think it's a myth - it's literally said about every country, until i moved to Ireland. Dunno if it's due to hairstyles, dress styles, healthy life style, natural features or mixture of all, but it's super easy to spot women/girls who are not native to Ireland/UK. I would say the average is much higher on the continent as a whole compared to british isles. Dunno about the men though 6. yep that's 100% true. Stuff that is expected of men in Poland (and people will give you shit for not doing it) is considered old fashioned, flirty or classy in other countries. "you know you are dating polish men when.." vid on YT is very accurate, version for women not so much 7. the "polish people are thiefs" is a steorotype in western europe only, similar to "polish people are dumb" in US.

I only want to say one thing. We have bad experiences regarding our history. But believe me, if you stand anywhere in Poland and say honestly that you need help. You will receive help. That's why we welcomed Ukrainians into our own homes. That's who we are. If you are hurting someone, we will help. The color of the person's skin, religion, gender or anything else is not important. Because we have suffered a lot, we can understand others in need. But also because we have been deceived more than once, we recognize the lie immediately. We are not naive. Maybe that's why we don't smile like that without a reason. However, our hearts are always on the right side, on the side of truth.

In polish there is something called name day. Each day in callendar has assigned few names and if its your name then its your name day. So this is another occasion for party with vodka. Which is weird becose birthday is enough. I mean... each day its someones birthday. Sure everyone sometimes complain. But in poland when you seeing someone on street you can greet him with "Dzień dobry"(good day) or more on point "chujowa pogoda, co?"(weather sucks, yea?). Our everyday conversations are often comparing who had worse last week/month. About women trying best. Yes sure not every of them tryhard. But compare that to for example US... In poland casual look its still "i spend only 20 minutes on make up". In poland women never would go out with uncombed hair or clothes that don't match. Being a gentelman isnt few things. Its whole mind state. For example. Often when you see polish couple on sidewalk you will see that man is on road side. Why? To protect women. And its not something that they have in mind. No, they just do that becose they think that how it supose to be.

1. "Kurwa!". I'm trying to not to swear at any occasion, especially among the people I don't know, or just met, but yes - for Poles, the word "kurwa" is a word-absolute! you can express everything with that one, short word! CONFIRMED! 2. "Vodka". Personally, I don't drink vodka at all - I do love and I drink a lot of beer (despite I'm 51 yo :D )! But! Yep - Poles in general they still drink a lot of vodka (not that much as few decades ago tho!). CONFIRMED! 3. "Complaining". Yep! This is our national sport! I think, if "complaining" was one of the olympics disciplines - we'd be the world champions, with no doubts (at the same time complaining might be creative, in... in some way)! :D At the same time we do smile a lot, we know how to party and how to be happy, but... we're a northern (European) nation (with lack of sun) and we're straight forward, honest people, so you rather won't see the Poles smiling from ear to ear or false-cheering while you walk down the street! LET'S-SAY-COMFIRMED! 4. "Work". NO! LoL! COMPLETELY FALSE! 5. "Women". BS! Generalisations ain't good! FALSE! 6. "Tolerance". HAHA! TURN OFF THE TV (especially leftist ones!) and ask foreigners (regardless of their skin colour)! :D FALSE (with some exceptions)! 7. "Gentlemen". Well, we're the dinosaurus and the comet's incoming inexorably! :/ 40/60 FOR CONFIRMED! 8. A lot of stereotypes about Polish people and Poland in general comes from the "communism" era and the times just right after this period, but some of them persist (languish?), unfortunately, to this days. Thanks for the vid! :)

Only the young generation in Poland can travel. During the years of communism, Poles were banned from traveling abroad. No ordinary citizen was allowed to leave the country. Only for 30 years have we been able to travel outside our country. I believe that even though we are culturally homogeneous, we are a very friendly and open nation to guests coming to our country. Many young people want to help Ukrainians more than older people. This is because the elders remember the times when Ukrainians murdered them. The world has never seen such a murder. Many people escaped from Ukrainian axes and axes (literally, and these are still too mild terms) and they will never forget this. I personally know a person who slept in the swamps because the Ukrainians were murdering everyone at night, who escaped from his place of residence, which the Ukrainians had appropriated. He is still suffering because of this (Volhynia Massacre). This difficult history is also proof that despite the wounds that Ukrainians inflicted on Poles, Poles help them with all their strength.

Kurwa It is a swear word similar to "foken" in Africaans . It is not to be used in any socially proper, or official context. It is not very offensive, but will make you look rather rude, it could be used as a joke with someone very familiar with you. Used as a expression towards woman... Totally offensive. Do not drink frozen vodka, South African people have no resistance to frozen alcohol, it will make you very drunk. It could be very dangerous too if your resistance to alcohol is low.

I disagree about the vodka thing and statistics are on my side. Poles drink less and less vodka. It is a ritual drink of a sort. You have something bigger to celebrate or mourn about you drink vodka but on every day basis most people drink beer or wine. Beer is the default drink in Poland these days. Of course there are more traditional regions of Poland where vodka would be more popular but I persoanlly can't remember the last time I had vodka, and I do drink alcohol. About the complaining though. It used to be more true in the past and there were good reasons for that. Not smiling in the street is considered politeness that's why we don't. People think I'm being disrespectful when I smile in the street. But you can tell by people's reaction to "how are you doin?" a decade ago vs. now thngs have changed. In the past people felt obliged to complain. These days they are more positive/neutral. So it's old mentality we're slowly getting rid of.
