Here in England there is some negativity about Polish people but once you speak to Poles and learn the fascinating history of Poland then everything changes. I love the Poles and their history - that's why I'm learning Polish!

Please correct me if i am wrong but when Poland was the Lithuanian Polish Commonwealth it was the second largest country in Europe and threatened all of its neighbors (Prussia, Austria, the Ottoman Empire, and Russia) so after having a particularly bloody civil war and a war with Sweden immediately after that that wiped out a third of its population its neighbors took advantage of the commonwealth's chaos to take it apart and absorb its lands. The negative polish stereotypes that followed the dissolution of the Commonwealth were used as a means of justifying the takeover of Poland by Russia, Austria, and Prussia. Later when Germany and Russia once again divided up Poland during the second world war they reused the same stereotypes created hundreds of years before to justify the takeover of Poland. The stereotypes commonly presented the polish as barbaric or backwards and the Germans actually said that polish cavalry charged their tanks with lances when they tried to invade it (while it didn't actually happen this German propaganda was so pervasive that I remember being taught about Polish cavalry charging tanks with lances when I was in grade school). Negative stereotypes are almost always created to discredit a group of people, don't believe everything you hear.

Here in the Netherlands there are some stereotypes about the Polish people living here. However I've always loved how Polish sounds, I also get my hair cut by a Polish woman. She cuts my hair perfectly and just for 5 euro, while the normal hairdressers would charge you 15 and sometimes they don't even do it well.

Don't look at those people on the lower level, look at those people on the higher level, those people that are very well spoken, those people that are very well dressed, coming from the offices in Manhattan or any other places. Their communication level is better than Polish people. Polish people talking, talking and talking, and you don't know what they are talking about, because they are using some kind of examples, examples, examples, instead of talking, what they are talking about. Those people that think that they are the more intelligent are worst, they are talking and talking, wasting time, examples, examples, instead of talk what they are talking about.

Mam polskiego współlokatora, który niestety całkowicie utrwala stereotyp. Oto zwykły, codzienny przykład - jeżdżę z nim do miasta, aby pójść do sklepu i kupić butelkę wódki.
