It really shocks me just how little many Christians know about their own book. A lot of them have read less of it than they have young adult fantasy novels. Like, when we argue why is it me who's quoting bible verses and why is it you who is just now hearing them for the first time? I mean I don't start these arguments, but when people find out I'm an atheist and want to start them with me I indulge them. It's a dumb move though. Why argue about a topic you know nothing about?

I don't know what atheists are like in the US, but here in Europe & Australia, amongst other places, we've generally been born to families who go to church & have been introduced to religion in our younger years & basically had lots of questions that weren't answered. In fact, we were told off for asking them, saying that we should simply believe. Unfortunately things like that made suspicious so we went away & did our own research. As a result, the vast majority of us end up being able to quote the Bible or other religious texts word for word, we know all or many of the miracles attributed to God, which are identical to those attributed to Zeus, Thor, Isis, or any other divinity throughout history. For example the virgin birth or other birth miracles are seen in Ancient Babylon (Ea caused Damkina to give birth to Marduk via virgin birth); the Ancient Assyrian god Nanna used Mami to give birth to Tukulti-Urta); for the Hittites, Anu's cupbearer, Kumarbi, bit off his genitals & became pregnant with Teshub & siblings; in Ancient Greek similar happened, with Cronos castrating his father Uranus, leading to the birth of Aphrodite; for the Ancient Egyptians, Is concived Horus through parthenogenesis (where there is no male gamete involved, only female); several other Ancient Egyptians god's started out life in a similar way, such as the child of Re, even several rulers had their births attributed to divine intervention with a human, such as Amun impregnating Queen Ahmose in disguise as the Pharaoh Thutmose I & the child became the female Pharaoah Hatshepsut. Amun also did the same with Queen Mutemwiya disguised as Amenhotep III & she gave birth to Thutmose IV. In the Zoroastrian religion, Dughdiva was a virgin & conceived Zoroaster via a soft of light. In Hinduism, Vishnu magicked himself into Devaki's uterus & was born as Krishna. Vishnu did the same with Kausalya & came out as Rama. Surya impregnated Queen Kunti who gave birth to Karna. After the birth, Surya restored her virginity so she could marry King Pandu. In China, the Yellow Emperor Huangdi was conceived when his mother was out walking, when the star Big Dipper sent lightening to make her pregnant. Qi, the god of agriculture was miraculously conceived too. Jiang Yuan, his mother, stepped into a footprint left by Shangdi, the supreme god. The Ancient Greek's & Romans were even more crazy, if that's possible. Zeus got the goddess Metis pregnant & was worried their child would be more powerful than him (a famous trope in legends) so he swallowed her. Athena, their daughter was born as an adult wearing a full body of armour, jumping out of Zeus's forehead. Dionysius was born twice. During his first birth, his mother Semele died so Zeus swallowed him on a lightening strike. He was later born from Zeus' thigh. In Judaism & therefore the Old Testsment, in the Second book of Enoch, Melchizedek had a virgin mother, Sofonim (or Sopanima), the wife of Nir, a brother of Noah. The boy came out from his mother after she had died & sat on the bed beside her corpse. He was born clothed, speaking & praising god. Religions simply recycle information amongst themselves. When a miracle or story is in 1, it ends up being in several others. You usually find that most atheists in the places I've mentioned come to the conclusion there's no evidence for god after studying religions for a long time. We'd be happy to accept there was, if someone will just give us a single piece of evidence that withstands scrutiny. It's not that we hate religion as such, we just dislike people using religion, something we believe is not real, to control other people or to make others suffer. For example, the religious right in the US is really going to town on women & minorities, forcing children to carry a rapist's child or driving LGBTQ+ people to suicide. How dare they? They can believe any fairy story they want but how dare they use it as a stick to beat others? Or the Catholic Church protecting child rapists because they're priests, or refusing to let people use condemns to prevent a horrible death from AIDS in Africa because they cannot afford the treatments we enjoy in the West. The French group Pigalle does a good song about the latter, Crime Contre L'Humanité (Crime against humanity). Btw, you have a wicked laugh. I love it! 🙂

Minchin is huge, Bo burnham has said many times that tim is his Idol. Tim stopped standup for the last 10 years because he's been a producer on broadway with a bunch of number 1 broadway shows. He got bored of that and now is going back to comedy. He recently released a non comedy album which is amazing. Mans a genius. Also, every atheist i know are atheists because they've read the bible bud, not a single Christian i've ever met has read the bible, the entire bible.

And I wish you would’ve left your last comment up, it sound more honest, more on point, and honestly more intelligent. But a few things, if most atheists were Christians starting out, the whole source of why you became atheist is because you didn’t believe those teachings and went on your search for truth. And while you may have ended your journey that there is no God, you are not a monolith so I would not put all of my eggs in your basket, I based my thoughts on the conversations I’ve had with atheists that I’ve known and met. And you are wrong to assume that I’m Christian, though my root is in Christianity, I’ve been raised to think for myself, which took me out of the church and on my own journey, so for you I do believe in God, I also believe integrity fact the Bible’s have a lot of truths, but the organization of church or blindly believing a pastor isn’t me sir. I question everything
@9997andrew
@9997andrew 2 жыл бұрын
I will agree that this comment was probably not an accurate assessment of your entire reaction, but I didn't necessarily mean it to be condescending. My point was an over-generalization of Christians which is ironic because that is sort of what I was critiquing you for in the first comment. So for that, I apologize. In regards to your other comment, I think it is a bit dishonest of you say you believe in God and the Bible, which is the origin of Christianity, and claim that you aren't a Christian. I know a lot of people do that, and say that they believe in the God of the Bible, but then pick and choose which parts to believe in. If only some parts in the Bible have truths then how do you differentiate the difference between those and the false ones? If the Bible is the inspired word of God, it would be strange that humans, a couple thousand years after it was written, could decide what is true in the Bible. In the end it always comes down to faith, not evidence. That being said, I am totally happy for anyone to believe anything they want on faith, as long as they don't try to change laws or force others to subscribe to their beliefs in the name of God.
@L8bloomer_Audi
@L8bloomer_Audi 2 жыл бұрын
@@9997andrew I really appreciate your feedback, when I said that I believe there are some truths in the Bible I will elaborate by saying that there are factual things in the Bible. There are things that are in the Bible that you can probably assume that is true universally through just about every form of spirituality (be kind, love all, humans are imperfect etc…). I also believe that there are truths in the Bible that Christianity doesn’t want people to know, or the business of religion refuse to teach (God is the creator of all good and evil, Jesus and the Laws state that we all are gods, and everything that scripture states about us being gods), I don’t know how deep I believe in that cus honestly it breaks down into law of attraction talks, but I’m veering off topic lol. But when church and pastor says “this is means that.” And you can’t question it, it becomes a problem for me, and when the flock acts like sheep, it takes me out of the Christianity religion altogether. To be honest I found solace in kemetic and Hindu teachings. So I can believe in god and believe in the the truths of the Bible, and not be Christian. I had a Moses being Jewish with his Egyptian bias/roots reference, but I felt it was unnecessary. Keep commenting cus I love different perspectives and I’m open to answers, I operate off I could be wrong. What are some things you would suggest to me to watch.

Regarding the conductor just grooving along - I'll do that too when I'm conducting, particularly if we're playing something like this. The musicians don't need to be shown the beat when it's ticking along. They just need to listen to each other and the drums in particular. My job is mostly done once we've reached the concert but I know which places the musicians will appreciate a bit of help, like he pointed at a section to come in right after that bit. But just beating time serves no purpose if the musicians are halfway decent and know the music. I'd even argue that his dancing serves a better purpose than if he had stood still and just beaten the tempo - it communicates joy to the orchestra. If you look at a good big band playing with a conductor, you'll note that they very rarely beat time unless the tempo changes. They'll give other instructions with their hands, but mostly just groove along. Same when conducting classical music. Even though the lack of a constant beat in the drums means that the conductor will generally keep beating the time constantly, that is still the least important thing they're doing (unless we're talking about beginners, or there are really complex rhythms). The musicians know how to play together - it's mostly about the additional gestures given (and the work done during rehearsals). This long comment is not meant to be critical - I've watched a few of your videos now, and enjoy them. I appreciate that you properly engage with the videos and not just like some people sit silently and watch. Then I might just as well watch the original video again instead - but I thought you might appreciate the point of view from someone who does this for a living.

I appreciate your post and I didn’t take it critically, in fact your insight as a conductor got me wanting to watch more orchestras perform because I never noticed the groove moments. So now I got a question, do some conductors conduct the entire performance for showmanship? If so then I have a new appreciation because I know it’s a workout
@RikardPeterson

I have read and studied the bible far more as an atheist than I ever did as an evangelical Christian. In fact, I love studying it. It's a fascinating peek into ancient cultures and peoples. I don't have the baggage of having to try to believe everything in the bible now. I read it for pure enjoyment of itself. Once I was rid of the God-Glasses, I was able to appreciate the stories and really examine it objectively. I encourage everyone, believer or no, to just read it for its own sake. No one should try to pull any life-lessons or values from it, or else they're going to risk eventual incarceration, though. I've heard one Christian describe the bible as man's attempt to illustrate the nature of their god, which stands in sharp contrast to how most try to see it as a work that's inspired by a god. I feel this explanation is a far more honest view.

Most atheists HAVE looked for truth. Those of us who were former Christians were often among the most devout at church. We were the ones who studied the Bible a lot. Repeated surveys of atheists have shown that Bible Study is the main reason they give for becoming atheists. I have a friend who is the senior pastor at a large church. He tells his junior ministers "Never argue the Bible with an atheist." He is generally correct. Atheists often understand and know the Bible better than most Christians.

I get your point about atheists who 'do their research' rather than simply disbelieving without doing the reading - but, the burden of proof is surely the other way around There is nothing obvious and incontrovertible about the existence of God - it is for those who believe they have proof of that existence to prove he is there. Atheism is just a lack of belief in God, and lacking a belief does not require evidence. If someone wants to promote the reasons why people shouldn't believe in God then it's better that they do some research first to clarify
@L8bloomer_Audi
@L8bloomer_Audi 2 жыл бұрын
My point on burden of proof, was is that it’s on the person who’s making the claim either way. If I you come to me, and say God don’t exist l, it’s on you to prove to me. If I come to you talking about how good god is and how we should praise him and you say God is not real, it’s on me to prove because of my declarations. Even with me believing in a God, a person doing that tends to be obnoxious and I’ll ask them when I feel petty lol.

13:08 I would assume most atheists have done their research and had their journey through religion. My mother was Catholic, my father is Protestant. My best friend was Christian, and I attended her church. I went to bible camp and I went to a Catholic school. I've studied up on Native Spirituality, Buddhism, Sikhism, Taoism, Islam, Greek mythology, Wicca, New Age, and on and on. I've taken moral lessons where I found them but ultimately arrived at the conclusion that I did not believe in an afterlife or God. I do not believe humans are anymore special to the world than the bacteria on a toilet. We live, we die. In between that is up to us. I see no harm in people believing what they wish to believe, as long as it doesn't hurt others, but I tend to have distaste for organized religion because it puts too much power in the hands of people who are either corrupt or, due to being above criticism, become corrupt.

The thing is, you were saying that you could go into any church, of any religion, anywhere, any Sunday - and hear testimony of “miracles”. However, most religions teach that to experience “saving” or god’s benevolence, you have to be a believer… so how is it possible for all these people in different sects and different religions to all be correct when they attribute their experience of a miracle to THEIR god? If god does exist and there is one correct interpretation of one religion, everyone who isn’t a believer in that interpretation of that religion is either lying or deluded when they say they’ve experienced a miracle! And if most people are either lying or deluded, why wouldn’t one think that in fact they’re all actually lying or deluded. Basically, if a catholic, a Protestant, a Muslim and a Jew - who all have cancer - walk into their church, mosque or synagogue one day. Then walk out saying that god has cured them. Then all but one have to be either lying or deluded about it. Because even if god exists, three of the four have faith in and practice the wrong religion. And if we are going to honest in that assessment, and understand that people can lie or be misguided in their attribution of miracles to their particular god, then surely we should also be highly skeptical of the fourth person too.
@L8bloomer_Audi
@L8bloomer_Audi 2 жыл бұрын
I might be misunderstanding what you’re saying, but based off what I got from what you said, you are operating on the idea that there is only 1 true God and every other religion is wrong or lying or delusional, am I correct? If I am then you are dismissing a lot of text from the Old Testament. The Old Testament give credence the fact that there are other gods, and there aren’t any dispelling of those gods. There’s references that the Judeo-Christian God is more powerful than the other gods, and he give rules for his people to not worship false gods, but also to not put other gods before him. So to believe that everyone is delusional because there is only one correct religion in not a correct way of thinking in my eyes for christians. I even said for atheist his premise of a miracle being that it’s this one place, this person, this particular prayer, at this particular time , is off because all over the world there are people having their prayers answered the same way, so back to the conversation at hand. They can be correct in their thought process of miracles coming from their gods.
@goldboy150
@goldboy150 2 жыл бұрын
@@L8bloomer_Audi firstly, the Old Testament specifically dictates that the worship of other idols or gods is a sin - so hardly an act that tolerated, let alone encouraged. If a god is false, surely it wouldn’t be providing miracles… Secondly, my point in my previous post was in precise reference to what you said in the video about people all over the world etc etc. All monotheistic religions believe in one god (hence “mono”), one truth. Therefore, if god exists, each religion can’t be right in the way they believe, practice, pray etc etc. only one can be right - or none at all. So, if according to you people all over the world in different faiths are all experiencing miracles, most of them are either lying about it or they’re delusional - because as we’ve ascertained above, only those who believe and pray to the one actual god could be being benefitted by miracles. And to reiterate, I specifically said lying OR deluded. I’m not saying that these people are aware of the reality and are lying necessarily - they could just be delusional and are completely unaware that it’s not true. The point Tim was making when he said “of history’s endless parade of gods that the god you just happen to have been taught to believe in is the actual god and he digs on healing” is that all these gods can’t all be the real god. Otherwise there would be no need for different religions, texts, authorities, belief systems etc etc. so he’s pointing out how “lucky” sam is that he happens to have been taught to believe in the “correct” or “real” god. Obviously he’s being sarcastic in that none of them are real but his point stands. So When you suggest that people all over the world in different religions and sects are “experiencing” miracles - you’re actually proving his point. Because even if you are a believer, you know that to be not true. The atheist just takes it one step further and says that they’re all not true - even the ones from the believers religious group.

@@goldboy150 my argument wasn’t about tolerance, it was about acknowledgement, the Bible acknowledged idols and gods, so I think you want to argue monotheism which I’m not arguing. I say a lot that I speak on the idea that my thought could be wrong, and for you to say that I’m proving his point is because your beliefs (I’m just deducing from this argument) is that it has to be right or wrong. Tim could be right in the belief that every religion is lying, but the fact that the possibility is there for him means there’s the possibility for him to be wrong. And for the Judeo-Christian if they believe that God is the one true God then, there are a whole set of different issue they need to worry about, because one discipline in wrong. Are the Jews right and Jesus is not the messiah and the chosen few are already set to make it to heaven, are the Muslims right in their beliefs that come with Allah, and if Christian’s are right, which Christians are right? Because from Catholics to Mormans there are fundamental differences that can condemn the other to either damnation or purgatory. And even in Christianity Jesus even questioned the children of Israel asking “doesn’t the Law state that we are all gods” while being persecuted for claiming he’s god. So even on the most basic level of Christianity there is an acknowledgment of more than 1 god. You can also look at it as the Hindu’s look at it too, there is one god that breaks into many forms, like the trinity. I’m not trying to argue monotheism, I’m just saying that the people’s belief (that aren’t monotheistic) aren’t delusional or lying because even in monotheistic religions other gods are acknowledged even though it’s looked at as wrong in their eyes. And at the very least the Christian is not to judge, but forgive and be the example of God’s love.
@goldboy150
@goldboy150 2 жыл бұрын
@@L8bloomer_Audi you seem to be confusing two things. No one is saying humanity doesn’t believe in many gods. The argument is about whether many gods actually exist. Of course every religion acknowledges the fact that people will worship many gods - that’s why they specifically dictate that a believer mustn’t do that! Granted, there are a few religions wherein a belief in the tenets of other religions isn’t a deal breaker (Sikhism for example) but that’s the minority. I’m not sure what your struggling to understand here - you seem to go off on tangents each reply. In none of the monotheistic faiths is there a doctrine that one can/should/will be rewarded for, believe in and worship other deities. So, if I were say a practicing Christian; if I was to stay true to the tenets of my religion, I would not regard claims made by adherents of other religions to be true/worthy/defensible. Same goes for a Muslim, a Jew etc. so whilst believers everywhere acknowledge miracles and the supernatural in their church, their community, their religion - they simultaneously disbelieve such claims that come from a different religion. Hence my original point and one of tim’s main points; if you are an adherent of one of these religions, you are a person of faith when it comes to your sect and simultaneously a skeptic of other faiths.
@L8bloomer_Audi
@L8bloomer_Audi 2 жыл бұрын
That’s what I’m saying, Christianity is not acknowledging that others believe in gods, it acknowledges the gods, so they exist. The doctrine states that a believer shouldn’t do it, not because it don’t exist, but because it does. People treat it as it don’t exist because it makes it less tempting and allows for people to be dismissive. To sum up all of my tangents, the doctrine says gods, people argue the doctrine and says gods outside of the one doesn’t.

@@L8bloomer_Audi high level orchestra and bands will always have leads in each section that the rest of the section will follow. You are right that it is the conductor/maestro job to keep tempo and queue in. However, it is a little different in the case of playing support for a lead musician like in this case with Tim. In this case, Tim was the one keeping tempo, and the orchestra had to follow him as his support. So, once the orchestra gets started, the leads of each section will be following the tempo of the piano, Tim (which often happens to be the percussion section as well in some perfomances). So, all the conductor/maestro job is in this piece is to signal each section and odd instrumental note in, sometimes with a 4 count (measure) of prep time. Tldr: the conductor/maestro has a vastly different style needed depending on if the band or the performer is supposed to set the tempo.

Different from other atheists? My man, many of us are atheists because we actually read the bible, and didn't just skim to the convenient parts. Many atheists tend to know more about the religion than the people still in it even do. I don’t mean to say that atheists don’t read the Bible, my meaning was that he was different from other atheists I came across whether it was comedians or people I talked to. That it’s more than likely that anyone that has decided on a religion or non religion has read the Bible, but some atheists or agnostic people have made their decision not on the facts of what they read in the Bible, but after reading it they look at their lives or the world around and ask “if there is a God, then why would He/She/It/They allow for all of this to happen” and the belief of God contradict their world view so they choose to not believe. Or something happened to them and they are hurt by it and refuse to believe, or any other several reasons why they choose to not believe outside of facts. A lot of times their reasons show in their actions and word, Tim has been shown to not only make fun, but to be compassionate, sensitive, open, and honest when he deals with Christians and he also shows to be a genuine loving and good person, which can’t be said about some people (religious and non religious) and that says to me he was different from other atheists. And to provide a little more clarity it adds to my point that he’s different their are Christians that don’t know as much as he does about the Bible and more atheists no more about the Bible than Christians do imo. A lot of Christians don’t follow the Bible they follow their pastors. I am a person that is a Christian not because of what the Bible says, but because of what Christ says, I look at the Old Testament as references for the most part and everything that comes after christ as suggested direction (or other perspectives) on how to live as Christians. I know this was long winded but I just rewatched the video and realized that I wasn’t clear enough last year. I think in my other videos I was a bit more clear, if I wasn’t, watched them with the knowledge of this and and the fact I am talking more of people I personally come across. Thank you for watching

2 things.., can you point out the actual effect on the music, caused by your alleged conductor miscreance? Bear in mind the performance was quite late in a very long run, and of course was also developed and refined to the nth degree, and you think he's singing a different song in his head? Imo the whole performance was virtually faultless, and that section was one where they were 'coasting' with no need for direction. Also, you say plenty of the small miracles are unexplainable... So pick out your very best example. In other words, examine the cases in detail, and listen again to Tim's checklist of reasons for the vast majority of alleged miracles. Sure, a very few may remain unexplained (different to unexplainable..), but those will be because of too little verifiable information.

2 things, my awareness of the conductor had nothing to do with the performance. It was something I noticed and was being funny about. Now if you want dull commentary or reactions, this is not the channel for it (even though I feel like I’m boring, the interactions tell me a little different.) Second I’m not arguing that the check list is wrong in any way, my argument is that you can say that putting this as an isolated incident as a statement of fact, and denying that it happens all over the world in some regard (using a microcosmic example as a macrocosmic answer) is not accurate. Now a lot of them do have answers, a lot don’t, but to get me to pull a select few, would be a losing game for you. I’m not a typical believer of God, miraculous breakthroughs from scientific gains because isn’t less of a miracle to me, and for people to hide behind the fact that science hasn’t found the answers yet, so it’s not a miracle is the same cop out that Christians use that because science hasn’t figured it out, it’s God.

"he searched to truth." how is that different from most athirst? most athirst know about more religions and in more detail then the believers of the religions. do not get me wrong studying a religion is not needed. all an athirst needs to do is not believe the clam there is a god. the default position is not to believe any proposition until provided sufficient evidence of the proposition. "believers" love to ask athirst "can you prove there is no god?" that is not how it works you do not believe something until disproved. that would have you believing any statement no matter how unlikely. it sounds like you believe that most athirst are angry at god. how can you be angry/hurt by something that you do not believe exists? i will not deny angry at god is the starting point for some athirst, but every story i have heard about how someone left there faith ends with once you stop taking what you where told as a kid as fact and look for yourself there if not enough evidences to believe. so, you are no longer angry at god. "testimony is a big thing" - that is the problem personal testimony is not evidence on its own. at stated in the song stats you first need to establish concussion. and eliminate other more likely explanations. (I.e. miss diagnosis, spontaneous remission, human error) i guess you could call all spontaneous remission miracles, but how would that work for spontaneous remission in non believers and people of the incorrect faith? just because something is not explained does not make it a miracles. furthermore how do you know it is not explained the common person cannot explain many things you need to bring in the correct people to explain it. in this case the medical community.
