Congratulations. You take Tim's views with gentle acceptance, even though they conflict with your own views. This is such a mature take on his content and I commend you for that. No right or wrong, no preaching, just a simple nod to Tim's talent. You can take a bow, you are class man.

Life is like an ocean voyage and our bodies are the ships And without a moral compass we would all be cast adrift So to keep us on our bearings, the Lord gave us a gift And like most gifts you get, it was a book I only read one book, but it's a good book, don't you know I act the way I act because the Good Book tells me so If I wanna known how to be good, it's to the Good Book that I go 'Cos the Good Book is a book and it is good and it's a book I know the Good Book's good because the Good Book says it's good I know the Good Book knows it's good because a really good book would You wouldn't cook without a cookbook and I think it's understood You can't be good without a Good Book 'cos it's good and it's a book And it is good for cookin' I tried to read some other books, but I soon gave up on that The paragraphs ain't numbered and they complicate the facts I can't read Harry Potter 'cos they're worshipping false gods and that And Dumbledore's a poofter and that's bad, 'cos it's not good Morality is written there in simple white and black I feel sorry for you heathens, got to think about all that Good is good and evil's bad and goats are good and pigs are crap You'll find which one is which in the Good Book, 'cos it's good And it's a book, and it's a book I had a cat, she gave birth to a litter The kittens were adorable and they made my family laugh But as they grew they started misbehavin' So I drowned the little fuckers in the bath When the creatures in your care start being menaces The answers can be found right there in Genesis! Chapter 6, Verse 5-7! Swing your partner by the hand Have a baby if you can But if the voices your head Say to sacrifice your kid To satisfy your loving God's Fetish for dead baby blood It's simple fate, the Book demands So raise that knife up in your hand! Before the Good Book made us good, there was no good way to know If a thing was good or not that good or kind of touch and go So God decided he'd give writing allegoric prose a go And so he wrote a book and it was generally well-received The Telegraph said, "This God is reminiscent of the Norse." The Times said, "Kind of turgid, but I liked the bit with horses." The Mail said, "Lots of massacres, a violent tour de force. If you only read one book this year, then this one is a book And it is good, and it's a book!" Swing your daughter by the hand But if she gets raped by a man And refuses then to marry him Stone her to death! If you just close your eyes and block your ears To the accumulated knowledge of the last two thousand years Then morally, guess what? You're off the hook And thank Christ you only have to read one book Just because the book's contents Were written generations hence By hairy desert-dwelling gents Squatting in their dusty tents Just because what Heaven said Was said before they'd leavened bread Just 'cos Jesus couldn't read Doesn't mean that we should need When manipulating human genes To alleviate pain and fight disease When deciding whether it's wrong or right To help the dyin' let go of life Or stop a pregnancy when it's Just a tiny blastocyst There's no reason why we should take a look At any other book But the Good Book 'Cause it's good And it's a book And it's a book And it's quite good! Good is good and evil's bad And kids get killed when God gets mad And you'd better take a good look At the Good Book

I find it odd that those of us that think rationally and speak about the irrationality of religion are considered assholes. Either the book is good or not. It is true or false. You can choose to ignore what is not convenient like the prohibition of eating shrimp, racism, and endorsing of rape and slavery. You might decide that homosexuality is a sin because the bible says it is. For me, the immorality of keeping slaves is far worse than what two (or more) consenting adults do with their genitals. Keep those blinders on. Thinking is just too hard.
@L8bloomer_Audi
@L8bloomer_Audi Жыл бұрын
Are you directing this towards me or the conversation, because I’m not sure where you got me picking and choosing to ignore some and not others. If it’s towards me then I will have to correct you on a couple things. I never seen where Jesus said that homosexuality is a sin, in fact I seen where Jesus questioned and stood at opposition to the laws. So me saying that is saying that I as a Christian follow the commandment of Christ which is love god with all your heart, love myself, love my neighbors and love my enemies. So the only thing I consider a sin is me stepping out of that. Everybody else relationship with Jesus is theirs and it’s not for me to judge if it’s sinning or not

@@L8bloomer_Audi I may have misunderstood, but I thought I heard you call Tim an asshole. 1 Corinthians 6 9-10 is in the new testament. The "good book", new and old testament, are designed to control the religious. There were many writings that were purposely left out to maintain the narrative that the Christian church leaders wanted people to follow. There is something in the Bible that can be used to control and oppress just about any group of people. The book makes any that are not Jewish, Christians or men lesser people. The point of the song, in my opinion, is to show that the "Good Book" is not good. Using it to guide morality scares atheists like myself because of the evil it contains such as rape, murder, slavery and racism.

I more than likely called him an asshole, those are my favorite type of people. It my term of endearment given to the ones that are normally a free thinker that could just state facts, but decided to kick it up a notch with their creativity. And my view of the Bible or Christianity on what Christ said, everything else is parable, “historic events”, god speech from human perspective (they said god said it, but it’s coming from humans, or human understanding of what Christ said. So even with that anyone can interpret what they want including myself. A lot of people look at what god said and interpret his words as stoic and snooty, but i read his words and saw that he was an asshole to the pharasies (probably misspelled that) talking to them with sarcasm and condescending tones, but was very patient and soft to the uneducated of the laws and met the where they were. My Christ saw everyone as equal and consistently humbled the ones that abused power and took advantage of the less fortunate

@@L8bloomer_Audibut you're just going to whitewash over the fact he endorsed and encouraged slavery though right? It's specifically stated by Jesus that slaves must serve their masters well and it's fine to do whatever you wish to your slave as long as they don't die within the first few days. He does not once condemn slavery or say it is immoral. I see no morality in either the old or new testament, only evil and wickedness.

Just to clarify, Tim thinks all religions are stupid - with good reason and the more you actually know about "the bible"- in all it's almost 99 versions - and the history of it*, the less likely you are to consider it anything other than a half decent collection of, often very offensive, stories. *basically steals everything from other, older superstitions and histories.

Genesis chapter 6 verse 5 to 7 yee haw: 5 And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. 7 And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.

If you don't think the Bible is literal, then there's no point to Christianity. If Adam and Eve is not literal than the whole Jesus story is pointless. Since the Adam and eve story cannot be true then Christianity is pointless as well
@L8bloomer_Audi
@L8bloomer_Audi Жыл бұрын
I agree with part of your sentiment, but I don’t think everything in the Bible is true. But that is mostly the stories Moses told to his people to give them their history. They had no recorded history before him, and he used stories that he learned to piece together a history for his people. But Christianity is about following the teachings of Christ to be a better person and to have salvation when you pass. It’s about believing in something that is bigger than oneself and working in that belief. That is nowhere near pointless. And yes you have extremists and people that take that belief wrong or use is in for less than good reasons, but that is the nature of humanity. So in summation Adam and Eve is a story that gave a history to a group of people that had no history, but that don’t make it pointless, because people have a history of making up things to serve a greater purpose all of the time.

at what percent of disfigurement with the doctrine of a religion (the bible for Christians) can you no longer call yourself part of that religion? there are way more the 10 commandments, 613 in all, and no Jesus did not make the old testament invalid. Jesus stated not one jot or tittle (small marks) will pass from the law. then he went and changed a few things (a contradiction in the bible?), but that does not mean it is all gone just the explicit changes.
