Wojtek went to the zoo during the disbandment of the Polish army, a soldier of the second corps could not return to Poland after WWII because Poland was ruled by the NKVD and the communists and most of those who returned were first brutally tortured and then murdered, and the Scots did not trust Wojtek as much as his Polish friends and ordered Polish soldiers to take him to the ZOO

he actually had good life in zoo they tried to put him with other bears but he didn't felt good amoung them but he was very happy when he was visited by his friend and he knew someone was comming when he heard polish!

In my city, Szczecin, not far from my house, there is a Wojtek the Bear square with a monument to this animal (life-size), boards showing and describing his wartime wanderings, and a large playground for children. A great idea because children can have fun and learn amazing history. They have an alternative to Winnie the Pooh...

The Scots killed Voytek. They put him in a cage. He died very young. Polish soldiers wanted to transport Voytek to Poland, but the British authorities created problems.

Not really true. Polish soldiers didn't wanted to take Wojtek to occupied Poland by Soviets. Or maybe it was even impossible at the time.

There is a little historical mistake in the story. The german army didn't build up the monastery of Monte Cassino as a fortification. After the US Army Air Force bombed this wonderfull renaissance building with all his unique pieces of artwork to debris, the germans used the ruins as fortification.

Something that flew over everyone's heads - Wojtek left military as an NCO - a Corporal. He could give orders to lower rank soldiers. To be honest though, if a bear gives you an order, it doesn't matter what rank he has. He outranks you no matter what.

Witam :) 18 maja 1944 r. po niezwykle zaciętych walkach 2 Korpus Polski dowodzony przez gen. Władysława Andersa zdobył wzgórze Monte Cassino wraz z ze znajdującym się na nim klasztorem. W bitwie zginęło 923 polskich żołnierzy, 2931 zostało rannych, a 345 uznano za zaginionych.
