The other "entity" is "Fear" (personified). Jonny is the stepfather who beat him in the basement (where "Anger" is). This is DEFINITELY a song everyone needs to listen to several times. Especially re-listen to "Mansion" again, "Outro", then this one again! It's a beautiful journey (and, story).

I'm stoked for this one! It's a masterpiece that NF has talked about in interviews. He's brilliant at personifying emotions, using metaphor, allegory, symbolism, cinematics, and beat selection. You're in for a treat on this one! Continuing, Jonny is NF's abusive Step-Dad that took him to the basement and beat him, as referenced in "Mansion." Nate literally personified the emotion, Fear, for this track. He was speaking specifically to fear; as this is a direct continuity between the imagery we see in "Intro II" with Nate burying fear in the backyard with a shovel. Moving forward, Nate will continue to have inner dialogue with himself and he will personify other emotions. Brilliant and introspective to another artistic level.

Great breakdown! That was Nate and Fear battling. He said in mansion fear moved in. In this song he said “is this me or the fear talking”? Johnny is the universal name for an abuser. His moms boyfriend abused him. he mentioned that in mansion song.

Fear moved into his mind and made a room for itself in the song “Mansion” in this song (Intro 3) it’s fear having a conversation with Nate. In the song “Mansion” NF says “is that me or the fear talking?” and in this song Fear mocks him by saying “Is it me or the fear talking? Ha! What a dumb question”

For me, this song hits me VERY closely. I reminds me of fighting for my life with my own demons, only to get up, accept the help I needed, and be a much stronger, leveled person than I used to be. And I can totally feel the parallels. The main piece of advice I give people when they're struggling, is more or less to sit down, and think through their lives to this point. It got them where they are. And while we can't change the past, we can learn from it to create a better future, for ourselves, and/or those around us. Spending two weeks going through 10 hour workdays in a near panic state the entire time at work. I finally just... snapped, but found the will to swallow my pride, and actually accept the help I'd been offered my entire life. I've gone from an absolutely volatile and unrelenting a**-hole, to being someone people I meet would never even guess that I'd been angry at any point in my life.

LYRICS AND THE PERSPECTIVES FEAR: you scared of me, it’s embarrassing If it wasn't for me, you would've never wrote Therapy I've been here for you, but how come you're never there for me? It's a little bit twisted, but I miss when you and I had scary dreams NF: I don't really wanna talk about it FEAR: Well, that's too bad now, Nate, shut up! Now where were we? Way back in the day when You and I had it all mapped out in the basement Cryin' in your room like a baby NF:"I wish mom was here" FEAR: We all do-so we wouldn't have to hear about it Every single record you don't really wanna change me Yeah, I'm the one that made this happen Do you really wanna get rid of your main attraction? Let's pack our bags and go back to Gladwin now Yeah, it's time for the third record And you know I got the content I don't wanna make you nervous But it ain't like it used to be We got a lotta people watching' You told me that you don't want me in your life, that's pretty hard to digest And I told you I'd leave when we die, and we ain't died yet Therapy Session was beautiful, Nate, but I'm wondering' what's coming' next Yeah, get that stupid hat off of your head when I'm talkin' to you, you hear what I said? You don't like the prison I built you? Yeah, you wanna know what the funny thing is? You keep on talkin' to me like a stranger, but we've been together since you were a kid, yeah Took us from a no-name Told you everything was okay Now you tryna cut me out of it like I ain't never been a part of it I am the heart of it, I made this whole thing Yeah, I put us on the dope stage You must have no brain What's the point of having guns if you can't aim? What's the point of having blood with no veins? What's the point of having love with no pain? What I'm sayin' is me without you doesn't make any sense I know I'm intense in controlling, but you need to learn how to cope with it That's just the way that it is If you didn't want me to live in your house, you shouldn't have let me move in It's comfortable here and I like it, I got my own room and everything It don't get better than this! You say you wanna own your life, then wake up and take your own advice You just mad 'cause you know I'm right Yeah, I'm flattered you put me in Mansion, but you should've told 'em right 'Bout your hands on the coldest nights You didn't tell 'em 'bout the times you and I used to hold the mic I mean, what are you, outta your mind? 'Cause both of us will be, come on, let's go outside! Is this what you wanted? Both of us out in the open? Let's do it then I mean, why are you doing' this? I know that you're mad, but I'm not in the mood for this We got a record to drop So why you actin' like I'm not a part of it? And where is my shovel at? Prolly all back-where it always is You can't get rid of all of me I'm the reason why- NF:Nah, shut up, I don't wanna hear another sentence FEAR: Hey, I'm NF, "Is it me or the fear talkin'?" Ha! What a dumb question! Yeah, it's real music 'til the day we die, right? Yeah, ain't that the slogan, Nathan? NF:Thought I told you to keep your mouth shut FEAR:I mean, so what? You know I never listen Let me guess We gon' dig a hole, kill the track, and prolly put a beat in it Rap about it for like three minutes Ayy, that's pretty deep, isn't it? Wait a minute, you don't really think for a second that you're puttin' me in this? NF:No, of course not, just a lil' deeper then we'll go inside and we can stop diggin' FEAR:Woo! You had me scared for a second, I thought we were diggin' my grave NF:We did, what, you don't like being' afraid? It's a dose of your own medicine What, you don't like how it tastes? My therapist told me don't bury my issues, but I'ma be honest, man, I'm feelin' great! I think it's only right we go back to where you were created I wrote a song for Johnny without you, but he ain't gon' like it, let's see how he takes it He probably don't even remember us, does he? I wish I was burying' anger, but both of us know I'ma need him for that song, he still lives in the basement Almost done, shoulda done this a year ago I don't know why I waited You know how I get, I put everything off of my personal life, you hear what I'm sayin'? That was a joke Yeah, it's hilarious, ain't it? You'll spend the rest of your life in my backyard or back of my mind, depends how you see it Put the shovel away, time to go back in the house now, you'll be out in a week Tellin' me you want your room back, that's funny; what, you ain't got nowhere to sleep? I'ma just look out the window and laugh at you, this is crazy to me 'Cause I thought you had me in prison this whole time, but I'm the one holding' the keys

The two guys going back and forth in this on is Nate and fear specifically. If you remember at the end of mansion he said “I’m not the only thing that’s living in here, fear came to my house and I let him in. He must got comfortable and settled in.” At the end of that song he said “Is it me or the fear talking, i don’t know anymore.” In this intro 3 track you’ll remember fear saying “if you didn’t want me to live in your house, you shouldn’t have let me move in… I’m flattered you put me in mansion, but you should have told em right.” Another song you should check out cause it really sets this intro 3 track up is “lost in the moment” (last song on therapy sessions) It’s a conversation with another character called “freedom.” In that song freedom is pleading with Nate to face his issues, cause until he does they’re both lost. On this song intro 3 Nate takes freedoms advice and faces the root of his problems.. fear If you remember the line when fear says “you say you want to own your life, then wake up and take your own advice, you’re just mad cause you know I’m right”.

12:42 i, too, am both a therapist who specializes in DBT, but also diagnosed BPD going on 13 years after i tried to end it during a dissociative state.. im a major Nate supporter for being such a great role model.. however, i have to push back on this advice on burying issues as “sometimes” being good.. i have to disagree, if you dont work through, accept, learn coping skills, etc childhood trauma especially, will ALWAYS rise back up. It might be a positive temporary fix during emergency situations.. high anxiety, ptsd flash backs, symptoms that have physical rammifications.. like how i used to dissociate during high stress situations for minutes to even few hours. I was younger and way too self reliant due to severe child neglect and having such trust issues, i refused to even see a doctor when i was literally losing time with 0 memory. In a sense, that was my attempt at burying my fears.. only to whip back and try to end my life.. Maybe bc im so deep in teaching DBT whilst also having BPD that i have this opinion.. but im pretty sure its standard to never be okay with a patient essentially use splitting to bury a very important emotion. As a therapist yourself, im sure i dont need to explain the positives of every stigmatized bad emotion.. anxiety watches from our subconcious for anything possibly harmful we might not have memories of in the forefront. Fear also has its place to keeping us safe from danger. So imo you cant bury fear. You can face your trauma and work through it.. but Nates villain here is, Fear. Fear cant be buried, only suppressed until it finally pops off in a even more unhealthy manifestation. I wont say more bc of your NF Journey.. but as a casual lurker.. i really felt the need to correct this. #nfrealmusic

Thanks so much for taking the time to write all of this, and it sounds like you’ve had some good experience. I think the play on words here is that he’s “burying” the very thing that used to have power over him, rather than avoiding it. The symbolism of “burying” is helping him heal, almost like burning old pictures that are traumatizing. But I can’t say more because I need to see the rest of the journey to see if he heals from fear??? I’m guessing you already know and I’m thankful you have given your insight and also watched the video😊👍

It’s a battle between Nate and fear. It goes back to mansion when he said he let fear in, and now he’s to the point where he says enough of living in fear, it’s time to bury you for good. At the same time he knows fear will never leave, it’s up to him if he allows fear in again. And when he says I’ve been in prison this whole time but I’m the one who is holding the keys. That’s so important to understand because fear will make you feel trapped, and for him to realize, wait I actually have power to allow you in and control me. This song is a masterpiece, it’s brilliant. And love the reactions so far.

This song gets me emotional as I imagine what the conversation would be if I were in it, talking to myself in the mirror. It would be a lot more aggressive and loud. It hurts to think, yet feels freeing knowing that I could be telling "fear" to "get in the hole, you're done".

i feel that the song is saying how nf as a kid was bit shy, patient and would listen, maybe, but growing up into a rap lable he had to hide his true self, thus splitting his personality, 1 crude the other calmed, with how it goes it sounds like begging, you wouldn't be here without me, trying to solidify need, though liars still get whats coming as the calm side is fed up listening to an uncaring side, it's a good song and listen to it a lot, as it can entertain with the sound and allow for deep thought when looking at the lyrics

There's a line in this that the lyric video must've misheard, but I think shines a new light on the story here. While they're digging the hole, "Fear" says "Hey, I'm NF! Is it me or The Fear talking? What a dumb question!" (The lyric video mistakenly writes this as "Hell, man up" instead) Earlier, Fear tries to take credit for NF's success, but at this point he's become so powerful in Nate's mind that he's claiming to be indistinguishable from NF. Since Nate is voicing both himself and Fear in this song, there are times when it can be hard to tell who is saying what. We can assume that Fear is the aggressor for the majority of the song and that Nate manages to turn the tables on him at the end of the song, but you brought up an interesting idea that it might've been the other way around without us realizing.

@14:00, No, Johnny was his mom's bf the one that used to beat him (in the basement in mansion), he's talking to and killing fear as a person right now...

The way I take this song or at least the first half of it is the artist, NF is screaming at the quieter, maybe weaker ego of Nate where it is the NF persona that is the oppressive one, driving Nate always further and further towards perfectionism even though Nate doesnt want it, it's like the guilt of "I haven't talked to that person in months, will they like me again?". He has a few verses in other songs that make me think that too, in Returns for example the opening verse is "What is perfect? Not me, I've been overworking for weeks..."

I noticed you do many reactions to NF as well as Juice Wrld and i’m really loving your reactions. I am a big fan of both artists however there are two juice wrld songs that I think will be great for you to review on your channel. I found I could really relate to them and they go very deep into juice wrlds feelings and emotions. The two songs are Emotional Overdose and Suicide Love.

Contrary to what a lot of people say, this is a song about his OCD. Something he’s been open about his struggles with. You guys all already know the fear and anxiety that comes with OCD and how we feel trapped in our own mind. That’s what the key reference means
