"They make it look so fucking real" BECAUSE IT IS!!! That isn't CGI
@jibronigibironi89595 ай бұрын
This scene might have been 100% real, but certain other scenes had some degree of CGI in it, like the scenes with the F-14 Tomcat, the first scene against the SU-57 specifically. They overlaid it with a CGI'ed F-14 that was actually an F-18. What I don't get, is CGI doesn't get the credit it deserves when it IS well done, but mostly gets shit on when it ISN'T.

Your the type to pick 1 line out of a song and focus only on that. Obviously some had to be CGI. But so much wasn't and you give no credit to that. You seam like the person who thinks the government has our best interests in mind. Good luck my sweet summer child. @jibronigibironi8959

@@SSIronHeart You can literally write a book on how to jump to conclusions with all that my probably sweet summer thing. I don't need to give credit to something that obviously doesn't need help getting credit. If its real, not gonna take much to make that look good. But making CGI look good, and real is an entirely different story. Even if its just one or two scenes I guarantee you dudes would be shitting all over it if they saw anything at all out of place. 😂
@SSIronHeart5 ай бұрын
@@jibronigibironi8959 ok CGI from late 1990s. Most assume, correctly it's horrible... but 1 movie makes do much CGI look like it was made on MS paint. That movie is Starship Troopers. Masterpiece of CGI. Mid movie but great special effects and CGI.
@jibronigibironi89595 ай бұрын
@@SSIronHeart A lot of 90's movie CGI didn't really age that well. Starship Troopers looked great, though doesn't quite stack up to certain movies today like the last three planet of the apes movies. CGI though, truly doesn't get the credit it deserves. People never question how well done scenes in the Walking Dead are done. But even TV shows like that wouldn't even be remotely possible 20-30 years ago, while looking that good. There are certain scenes in that show where the zombies are 100% CGI, and these are small scenes. But no one even gives it a thought because it was so well done. It'd be shit on forever if it wasn't good though of course. 😂

Saw this 3 times in the theaters when it came out. When you heard that little musical number pump up when you see the computer screen showing the fighter jet heading towards the run that gave me the tinglies. You KNEW he was gonna do it even if it cost him his career to prove to them that it CAN be done. Scene was epic in so many ways. Very little dialogue, just facial expressions and reactions to the screen and Maverick making the run. So, so awesome. Also - Love Glen Powells (Hangman) reaction. Its almost like a "game recognizes game" moment for him.

I know one tidbit about filming locations for TGM, since QueenTofu asked. My childhood stomping grounds: the Cascade Mountains (WA state) provided some of the footage for the snowy mountain flying sequences, flying out of NAS Whidbey (Whidbey is an island in Puget Sound WA that should be on EVERYONE's bucket list!). And I believe some of the aerial canyon scenes were shot in the Columbia River Gorge (again WA state)... but I could be wrong about that. I think some actual top gun grads mentioned that training location in their post-film reactions.
@captin31495 ай бұрын
I mean it also showed the difference between the simulated terrain and the actual terrain. When Mav pulled up, there was nothing there, but the computer showed a cliff face. They didn't need the terrain to match exactly, they just needed terrain that allowed them to set up a simulated course

Part of this Sequence was probably flown using an established, well known Military Training Route in WA State and Oregon designated "VR-1355", the 'VR' meaning 'Visual Rules'. It's designed as a high speed, low level Training Route that many Military pilots practice on in a variety of Aircraft from F/A- 18's and F-16's all the way to C-17 and C-130 Cargo planes.

Awesome movie!! Tom Cruise made a great call by not letting it Stream on TV till three months after release. This movie HAD TO BE SEEN in the THEATERS. The seen where he flies over the desert, is only 30 feet off the ground. The actual military pilot that did the scene, told the director afterwards, "I hope you got that in one shot, cause I'm not doing again". The pilot said that shit is dangerous flying that low to the ground.
@jamescurfman32844 ай бұрын
There are multiple reasons for that. 30 feet is less than the length of the fuselage and far less than the wingspan of the F-18. When those engines are all wound up like that and booking it, that plane WILL suck dirt, dust and rocks up off the ground; Foreign Object Damage would literally be a killer at the speeds represented. People don't survive car crashes when they are 'only' going 75mph. The damage when travelling more than 400mph would be SO MUCH WORSE. Knots are even longer than miles; 400 Knots is about 460mph, which is more than 6 times the regular Highway speed. There is no surviving that if things go wrong.

You are absolutely mistaken. Yes, he's a pilot, yes he flies in the film, but ONLY the P-51 at the end. He never actually flew the F-18s, he was either in the back seat or in the front seat while on the ground. Tom never had the stick while in the air until he was flying his personal Mustang in the end.

And for everyone watching, Maverick completed the course in 2 Minutes, 14 point 84 Seconds. He had 16/100 ths of a Second left. He DID NOT complete the Course with Sixteen Seconds to spare. Do your Math, people. 08:19 Maverick was flying slightly nose down when he reached 10.3 Mach, which is 7,902 mph. His G Load was probably 1.5G... very gentle. Pulling 10G's after Bombs Away is extreme, which exceeded the F/A-18E's capability, physically distorting the Airframe and rendering the Aircraft unflyable. G load and Mach Number are two totally different measurements.

@jamescurfman32844 ай бұрын
Naval Aviators might call it that. A 'deck' is found on any ship, it's basically what everybody else calls the floor in a building or the ground when outside. 'Hit The Deck!' is known for being slang for 'get down on the ground fast!' whether it was a Navy term or not. Army soldiers have also been known to say 'hit the deck' and mean the same thing.
