When I rolled my patrol my motor wasn’t hydro locked to my knowledge (wire fell of the starter so wasn’t able to start it) but i just chucked it on a tilt tray and took it home pull the injectors out and cranked it over and it’s spray oil all over the roof,walls and bonnet of the olds place 😂😂😂 the motor is still going strong today in my td swapped GU

What nobody usually talks about is the disadvantages of locking differentials, when one axle on the rear pivots the front end sideways or across the track when only one rear drive wheel has traction and is loaded enough to still drive the vehicle up and across. Remembering that when climbing and the front wheels have "unloaded", there is less front wheel grip to hold the line. In essence, the car pivots around on one rear wheel and in this scenario, I think that is what caused your vehicle to screw off the line. This time the pivot was further complicated by the movement of those unsecured rocks.

I do mention that in the video but yes I agree with you it’s not often talked about.

I flopped my 07 JK wrangler once on an obstacle called "Jeep Rock" this rock was big enough to crawl over with nothing bigger than a Yj or a Tj at most. Because i was the first one on the trail with a "new" JK I went to try it and was just a cm or 2 too far left and did the slow flop. Got it back up and went on with the day.

I had a hydrolock after drowning through a water crossing. Car was at idle, and I was actually convinced when I hit the cross axle under the water, that I had switched the engine off before water could even get to the airbox. But we ended up nipple deep on the left side of the hardbody where the airbox is, and no snorkel at that time. We pulled the car out and started stripping the intake. Obviously full of water, but not sure if any water had got further down the line. As a precaution we pulled the glo plugs and cranked the engine on the starter with a few little bumps first, then a normal start type action. Only after we had got to swinging the engine at full starter speed did we suddenly get water coming out the glo plug holes. These holes turned out to be too small for the amount of water that needed to be expelled and I bent conrods on all four clinders. This pulled the compression from 26bar down to between 10 bar and 12 bar across all the cylinders. I was told later that I should have swung the engine by hand, but I doubt this would have made enough "suction" in the intake to pull that water through in the first place. Result was that we limped back home 280km with very little power and a smoking vehicle. As luck would have it, the water pump sprung a serious leak 100km from home, and we cooked the the old TD27 anyhow. The old Nissan however got us home, and even managed to start up the next day and drive itself onto the flatbed when the insurance company came to fetch it. That was 15 years ago, and with an engine swop he still lives and runs daily.

Matt I don’t think you can use this video in the same helpful way you do the other comment videos. When Paddy takes his work truck on a fishing trip and puts it rubber side up , commenting on him mistakes will probably help someone make a similar mistake but when a guy called ‘Mad Matt’ takes his ‘Race car’ racing and doesn’t roll I think he simply not trying hard enough. 😂 Keep up the good work 👍🏻

Matt, I've recovered flooded vehicles... pulled the dipstick and the water flows out. Drained the crankcase, pulled the plugs, dried the points (50 years ago). Refill with cheap oil, run for a few 100 miles, drain again. Forgot to drain the transaxle oil, bearing went 6 months later. Vehicle was at a railroad car park, 50 vehicles went under water.

have you since considered putting a wireless remote on the race car winch. just so you can operate the winch without the need to be in the cab of the car if you were in a similar position again?

my personal thoughts are great job on the roll line as well as the line on the front to keep it from rolling back down the hill. the only thing i could possibly see would be the addition of a safty sling or a "catch line" for when it comes back up on its wheels. I know thats not always an option but as far as safety goes, id have looked to see if it was possible. glad your ok and kudos for thinking safety 1st for not just yourself but all those around.

Now fixing a 200tdi that went for a 5ft deep swim, the problem was the air filter drain was missing, so open and that sucks! No. 4 cyl has bent conrod. Other than that, it all looks good so should live again next year. Rolled a car about 20 years ago, gutted really as that would have been worth about £20,000 now! 😛It was quite a surreal sensation of brain clocking the angles and going "that's not good!" then when on roof stopped, "better get out now!" Yep fuel everywhere and so were the minidiscs. Most of them also worked even the ones washed out with fuel. I probably need to fire up the player again and see if they all play again! So much better than tapes and CD's. Tapes are toast if you leave them in hot sun with a caterer's butter pack in the dash!

Matt . Why did you need to be in the car when it was being pulled over? Dangerous I thought. Another car with a winch or a strap on the front would have been my choice there. Did you really need a winch or anchor point on the front?
@MadMatt4WD8 ай бұрын
The reason was to stop the car rolling back once it got onto its wheels. I don’t believe it was unsafe.

I've personally destroyed a perfectly good 4.0L on a Jeep TJ going through a bog hole many years ago. Just a year ago witnessed 2 friends blow their Power Wagon 5.7 L hemis in a bog hole. We all tried the spark plug trick but it was too late. Anyway, I learned and installed snorkels on my vehicles. Never rolled over, but recently had a complex winch situation to get my rear fender off a tree. So, I do have a question. Was there really any benefit for you to be in the cab during the righting of the vehicle, or did that just add to an unsafe situation? I'm thinking right it, make sure it is secure and then get in.

We felt we had to use my winch to stop the vehicle rolling down the hill out of control and to get my winch working I had to get in the car.
