Calvin Harris: “but when I walked up to the podium I think that I forgot to say your name.” I forgot that you existed from Lover is apparently about Calvin. Songs like I'm Only Me When I'm With You, The Best Day, Sad Beautiful Tragic (which I have a theory is about her parents divorcing), and Soon You'll Get Better are all track 12s on their respective albums, and they're all about people in her family.

Loved the video! ❤️❤️❤️
@idontevenknow27174 жыл бұрын
alright here's everything about the album/storylines in it, consider this a masterpost: this album, although a sister album, has completely different characters and stories separate from the storylines in folklore, so no love triangle. it also isn't songs that were leftover from folklore. taylor released folklore and couldn't stop writing songs so all of these were made after it was already released. taylor said she wrote happiness literally a week ago. so it's basically a whole other album separate from folklore but just very similar structure, production, and style. now onto the songs: willow: this one's pretty autobiographical and generally about Taylor and joe's relationship, so no characters/storylines. has similar themes/references to delicate and cruel summer, which is also about their relationship. champagne problems: this a storyline! this is about a couple in college who think their relationship is going two very different ways, one is about to break things off (this is the person the perspective of the song is in) and the other was planning to propose (hence the mom's ring in the pocket and the rejected proposal). gold rush: this one is generally biographical as well. This one could be compared to delicate in the sense that she was scared to get into a relationship at that time in her life when she met joe. Similar themes to delicate and gorgeous, where she would imagine how nice a life with him would be but stopping herself because it would be too risky. Taylor also commented that the song is meant to sound like someone coming in and out of a daydream (one about the pretend relationship in their heads), which is why one part sounds dreamy and the other is more rapid and harsh (to symbolize coming back to reality). Tis the damn season: this is a storyline song about someone (it’s the character dorothea) coming home for the holidays and revisiting a flame they always end up seeing when they come home. Taylor said that the character is a struggling actress who moved to LA to try and have a career (hence the bridge about ‘if i ever make it’). The person who they keep hooking up with gets a song from their perspective too, which is later in the album called dorothea. Tolerate it: this is a storyline song that’s a little vague and no recurring characters. A lot of people are seeing an old-timey setting about a very mistreated housewife who constantly does things to make their partner feel loved and special but they do nothing in return except accept their praise. The bridge goes into them threatening to leave their partner but we are left not knowing what they will decide. No body, no crime: pretty straightforward… taylor sings from the perspective of the friend of Este who has a husband who is cheating. The first verse is them saying ‘i know he’s cheating i just need to prove it’, the second verse is about the husband finding out his wife knows he’s cheating and killing her, the final part is about taylor knowing he killed her and then killing him in return. Happiness: a lof of people are theorizing that this is about taylor relationship with her former record label owner scott. My tears ricochet is about him and this is about her evolving and growing and moving on. The line ‘I can't make it go away by making you a villain’ is about her realizing she cant stay mad at him forever and she needs to forgive and move on from him betraying her and selling her masters. Dorothea: storyline and character! This is from the perspective of the hometown flame dorothea keeps coming back to. The song is basically saying that no matter what they’ll always be there for her when she needs them to be. Coney island: storyline song about two people in a relationship who just can’t really get on the same page, they show up for each other at different times, they move on, they come back… a constant struggle over the years form when they were teenagers to adults… Ivy: this a storyline song told from the perspective of a woman who is cheating on her husband with another person, and realizing she has to make a decision to leave or stay. Cowboy like me: tells the story of two swindlers who fall in love through a cat-and-mouse fling “while hanging out at fancy resorts trying to score rich romantic beneficiaries”, also the male background vocals are marcus mumford from mumford & sons. She recorded the song in his studio and they’ve been friends for years so he just hoped on the song! Long story short: autobiographical about her and joe and how much she’s grown since the whole 2016 era of her life. marjorie : a song dedicated to her late grandmother who passed away when she was 13. Her grandmother was a famous opera singer and is credited in the song because, towards the end, she has a background vocal when taylor sings ‘i’d think you were singing to me now’. Closure: this seems to be autobiographical and could be about many people who have wronged her in the past, my personal belief being kanye/scooter. Both of them have publicly reached out to her and tried to look good and play the victim/be the bigger person and this song is basically saying ‘i dont need to make you feel better about yourself so you could sleep at night, you did wrong and i can’t help you’ Evermore: not a lot of theories about this one yet, but whether it’s autobiographical or not, it seems to be about the journey from a period of deep depression and hurt to a place of hope and coming out of that!
@samanthaschumacher6154 жыл бұрын
Okay thank you for this but I’m not sure if I see the love triangle. They all feel like separate stories to me. Champagne problems is a relationship where one person turns down a proposal because they are scared of commitment, as you said. ‘‘Tis the damn season to me felt more like a couple who broke up after high school but during the holidays always come back together because they can’t get over that first love even though their life paths weren’t compatible. Dorothea seems more like the perspective of best friends that grew apart and one of them is saying I’ll always be there for you (also theories this is about Selena Gomez). Anyways, loved your interpretations. These were just mine when I was listening to it! I don’t necessarily think this album is as focused on the storytelling and the continuation of stories as Folklore was. This one felt way more like Taylor or just relatable feelings in general about love lost or missed. That’s just my interpretation though.

Willow: This one is a simple track about unexpectedly falling hard for someone. It's against all her plans and everything she thought was gonna happen but she's all for it. Champagne Problems: It's about two people who had very different plans for the same night. The guy pops the question to the girl and she breaks it off instead. There's no celebration despite everything the guy had planned and it's a moment of ultimate irony. It's hinted that the girl has some mental issues and the society scoffs at her, looking at her like a mad woman. Champagne Problems is an idiom used to talk about issues of the rich being nothing when compared to serious issues like poverty or death of someone and mental issues are offen passed off as such. Gold Rush: It's about dreaming about falling for and chasing this guy who everybody wants and loves as she founds herself drawn to him as well. It draws a parallel to Lover's "I'm highly suspicious that everyone who sees you wants you". In the end she stops herself from getting lost in that dream because "she doesn't like a gold rush". Tis The Damn Season and Dorothea: Dorothea is about this country girl who leaves for LA to make a name for herself like a lot of small town girls do and it is sung from the perspective of her lover from her hometown. Taylor also mentioned that although Dorothea isn't related to the highschool love triangle but she went to the same highschool as Betty, James and Inez. Tis The Damn Season is a sequel to Dorothea. It talks about when Dorothea came back to her hometown for the holidays and met with that old flame of hers and realises what they has was beautiful. Tolerate it: This one to me sounds like a married girl who's a stay at home wife. She looks up to her husband and loves him with everything she has. She thinks he's older and more mature than her and that it seems like she's considers herself below him. She gives him everything but he just seems to be tolerating her and the marriage for the sake of it. She suspects that he doesn't really respect or love her. Near the end she says that she could leave him if she wanted to but then the song ends with the opening lyrics which makes me think that she ended staying with him and doing nothing about it in the end and her threats to leave him were empty after all. No body, no crime: This track paints a thrilling story or infidelity and murder. It tells the tale of Este, her husband, his mistress and the singer. Este suspects that her husband has been cheating on her but she has no way of proving it. She says she ain't letting untill the day she dies and ironically she does end up dying. Maybe she confronted her husband about the affair and he killed her. Nobody knows who killed her and so he gets away with it. The singer realises the fact that Este's husband has been acting suspicious and that he has killed her. Being Este's close friend, the singer seeks revenge. Having a boating license and being a maid helps her motive as she kills Este's husband and dumps him in the ocean. The mistress took out a big life insurance policy and was then conveniently framed. Everybody she thinks that she killed him but they can't prove it, meanwhile the mistress knows that the singer did it but she can't prove it either. Happiness: To me it was about looking back at a past relationship which you were bitter about with the maturity of hindsight. She has finally come to terms with all that went wrong between them and is ready to clean up all the bad blood between them and remember the relationship as a what it was- a bundle of memories which did make her happy at some point of time. Conney Island: I'm not sure about this one but it felt like a relationship which broke down because one of them became famous and were cast into the spotlight and they got a little lost in the light and forgot to look back at the one who was there for then all along. P.S- Notice in the bridge their are callbacks to Calvin, John, Harry and Jake. Ivy: This is about a girl who's in an unhappy marriage and finds herself drawn to another man. Despite having a husband, she pursues and affair with this guy who she just can't help but fall far. There's fear and thrill in this illicit affair and she wonders what would happen if her husband ever found out. Cowboy Like Me: This sounds like the tale of two con artists. Both Rob rich people of their money from one way or another. It is hinted that they capture the hearts of their victims and then end up robbing them. When the meet each other, they are drawn to each other and end up getting together. I'm not sure but the end to me seemed like the guy, just like it was in his nature, ended up robbing this girl as well while she had fallen for him for real this time. Long Story Short: Long story short, this is about Taylor getting over all her past turmoils like 2016 incident and all her bad relationships and finding love and happiness in Joe. Marjorie: This is a tribute to her grandmother who was an opera singer. Her vocals are audible in the outro. Closure: This song is at a direct contrast to happiness. It's about her refusing to give the greenlight of forgiveness to a past lover who write her a letter seeking for forgives and closure to ease his own conscience. Evermore: This, I think is about Joe too. It talks about how through all the darkness, maybe throughout her life or of the lockdown, she found solace in her beloved and with him there she feels hopeful and knows in her heart that all these dark clouds wouldn't stay forevermore.

This is really useful!
@shalakaj5233 жыл бұрын
couple of thoughts: tolerate it- inspired from rebecca by daphne du maurier which taylor said made her realise that the husband just tolerated her. happiness- probably inspired from abigail and her now ex husband, in which they've spent very long together only for this to end. thenarrator also shows conflict about how to move on when you're used to a person's presence, the flash of envy at a new person dating their ex partner and finally letting them know that she forgives him and hopes for their happiness with or without each other in due time. long story short- hints at tom hiddlestone (no shade) as the wrong pair of lips only to find love with joe closure- the first 13 seconds are this chaotic machine break and that continues throughout the song as background, the song could be about big machine records/ scott/scooter sending her a letter, which is meant to be a form of closure and taylor doesnt need it after the damage is done, so she wants to be by herself and responds sassily. evermore- the dn of the song seems to be about joe becoming the warm place for her, but the initial part seems to be about her feuds with kim/ kanye/ media, feeling alienated and out in the cold.
