everybody's discussing the love triangle but i think the most haunting thing about this album is the symbolism in mirrorball. the way she is singing to her fans and the GP, disguised like a love song, "spinning in my highest heels love, shining just for you". and then "i'm still trying everything to get you laughing / looking at me" is so sad considering she has reinvented herself over and over again so she doesn't lose her stardom. it is such a sad song and i'm upset not everybody is talking about it.

Betty’s perspective: Cardigan The other woman’s perspective: August James’s perspective: Betty Some have argued illicit affairs belongs in the trio. It could be an overview of the event as a whole but the three songs listed above have connected lyrics and details. August mentions summer love and James said it was just a “summer thing” to Betty. In August the character says “remember when I pulled up and set get in the car” just like James said happened in his song. Cardigan mentions walking on cobblestone in high heels just like in Betty, James walks on “broken cobblestones.” Betty and Cardigan both reference “cardigans.” Cardigan alludes to cheating, “chase two girls, lose the one,” and James coming to Betty’s porch in both Cardigan and Betty. There are probably more details that I missed and there are probably other songs in the album that are from the same characters’ perspectives

I'm gonna keep on saying it that mature Taylor is the best taylor. This album can't be compared to her previous work, because it's so different. This album seems, not only a new era, but the opening to a new age. It is the first chapter of a new book. This album showcases that Taylor Swift is more than just a pop singer/songwriter, she is one of the greatest songwriters of this generation. She doesn't need her personal life to write songs, she can create vivid character arcs and tell from their perspectives. This is a monumental shift in Taylor's career, one which is also her best, and one which will give folk music a new found appreciation. This is Taylor's best album, FIGHT ME. Speak Now and Red adopted Safe and Sound, sent it to college, there it perfected the craft of storytelling and came back as Folklore.

@brittanydiamond67724 жыл бұрын
All true, but a the same time if/when she wants to revisit fun, fiery, big sounds then that's okay too. She's not obligated to make *everything* this deep, intimate, or emotional, it's just one of her many musical abilities that she's free to use or not use whenever the mood strikes her. And when she inevitably puts out something with "less" depth or "less" maturity, she shouldn't be dragged for it or labeled as a has been whose best stuff is behind her. (I say this because we saw people take this attitude after RED, and I'm thinking we'll see it ten fold now. The second she puts out something less intimate feeling everyone will flip the hell out about how she's """"turned shallow"""" and I'm already tired from All Too Well stans turning their noses up at 1989.)

My tears ricochet is actually about her masters. She talks about her albums as jewels, which were taken from her by Scooter Braun and Scott Borchetta, which is why she says they bury her (her leaving the label, which she refers to as the home she can't go back to in the song.) She also talks about how hating her Brough Bruan and Borchetta together. The tears ricochet metaphor is that by screwing her over and hurting her they ended up hurting themselves too. Which is why she talks about Borchetta showing up to her wake cursing her name.
@MissNymwhen4 жыл бұрын
I don't know why people saying its about scooter and scott BOTH. She said that it was a betrayal because she always hated Scooter. "I loved you, I swear I loved you", "crossing out the good years". It's not about Scooter at all. Its about Scott/the label. And about their relationship and how much she was hurt. I also felt like the line "I didnt have it in myself to go with grace" showed that she maybe also wished she handled it a bit differently herself. The song is a bit angry but mainly very sad. Part of her wished it went differently.
@euphoriapotion20754 жыл бұрын
On instagram Taylor said one song is from "an embittered tormentor showing up at the funeral of his fallen object of obsession" which is what "my tears ricochet" is about. The whole song is not about Scott or Scooter, maybe the line "my stollen lullabies" is a reference to that situation, but the whole song is about someone else

@@euphoriapotion2075 the whole song fits her fight against her label though. I got the impression that she was referring to imagery (I.e. While some of these songs are 'charcter based' they all 100% intertwine with taylor's life and her emotions. My tears ricohet is about losing her master and ex-label president scott, invisble strings, peace and hoax are straight up her and joe, mad woman is also about scott/scotter, the last great american dynasty is about the story behind her Rhode Island house, this is me trying, seven and mirrorball are about her, illict affairs, the 1 and exile are part her part character, betty, august and cardigan are the love triangle but definitely have aspects of her life in it e.g august is a very similar story to cruel summer. It's very interesting unpacking the songs and how they relate to her life and even if they're not all necessarily from her perspective, there is so much of her in there.

The songs that are related, after comparing lyrics, are: 1) Betty, it tells the story from James's perspective, when he says that it was just "a summer thing", and that "the worst thing i've ever did was what i did to you". AND HE SAYS THAT BETTY WAS WEARING A CARDIGAN. So... 2) August, it tells the story from the another woman's perspective (who some people claims to be calleb Inez cause this name is on the Betty's lyrics, but I'm not so sure about this), cause it tells the story from when thet met in summer (August of course) and she called him to the car, they were together and blablabla. AN DSHE SAYS THAT "you were never mine to lose". So... 3) Cardigan, it tells the story from Betty's perspective (and even in the music video), she says that "e=when you are young they assume you know nothing", meaning that James did what he did thinking that she wouldn't have known. In the music video, Betty starts inside an old, destroyed room, which relates to her state of mind when she found out about James's affair. Then she goes to a beautiful, quiet forest, when she was at peace. But then James showed up again and then she transitions to the water scene, where she tries to swim and get out of this triangle cause it's messing with her mind and drowning her. Then, she goes back to the old room, but she's wet and with her cardigan, meaning that James is not the cardigan, she can wear it, but it brings her the memory when he said that she was his favorite, that's why she's wet, but she'll dry and eventually forget him and what he did to her, cause she knew everything when she was young. ANYWAY, hope i explained everything right... Hope you'll like it.
