I love both but still prefer the original video over Conan. The symbolism and artistry to me is what makes it so real and meaningful.

I agree. Beautiful artistry on all levels to convey the message. Also, the original video is devoid of the autotune that was used without permission on Conan. It was disrespectful to go against David's wishes. The last thing David needs is autotune, regardless of him being sick on Conan

Its interesting when he mentioned the vision planted in his brain then the image of the drummer getting the drum from the bare tree , the branches etc look like a rough sketch of the curcuitlatory system for the blood vessels in the head and brain. Look up basic images of the viens and arteries of the head and brain and youll see. It seems theres lots of little images planted thru out the video that sort of match the words of the song itself. And at the end of video the sun arises chasing away his old friend the darkness. Yep at 57 years of age i still tear up every time I hear this song.

Many thanks to Simon & Garfunkel, they have a huge catalogue of work and have influenced MANY current artists.....thanks to them for writing and recording this classic first over 50 years ago, warning us to not turn our backs on the world and it's willingness to embrace "SILENCE"........they made it possible for Disturbed, Pentatonix and others to re-interpret this great piece of music......also, mad props to the video makers....so moving

simon and garfunkel gave us a warning and we didnt hear it ....this version is disturbed shouting that we didnt listen to them ..... speaking with out talking and listening without hearing ..sounds a lot like the txting people we have become, the neon god we made... the cult of personality... i was around when simon and garfield first did this song ..and we didnt listen

Dear Lulu, dear John, amazing your reaction at the end of this master piece of music. I became also tears in my eyes at the first hearing. I love the music of Simon and Garfunkel, it's perfect music for me but the version of Disturbed beat it. For my taste exist less versions of music there are better than the original. When Simon and Garfunkle did it like a folk song, the meaning was watered down. It was a huge miss. Simon wrote a terrific poem with a real message. Disturbed did it justice.

The music video hits harder with the video specifically designed for the song. Conan's show was a great version of a live performance but this one was designed to hit harder. When he exited the recording booth he was crying , that's how much the song hit him. He refused to look at the others not wanting them to see him cry and think that he hated it, and the others in the studio assumed he didn't like it but that was so far from the truth. Is amazing to think that the singer could get so emotional but obviously it hit him hard.

I always loved this song, Disturbed helped to define myslef when I was a teen but EVERY single time when I hear that song one line hits me the hardest "people hearing without listenig". That one line basically changed the way I think and communicate with others and helped me to create bonds with people I never expected myself to create those bonds. With a world packed with news and constant changes we really do forget sometimes to listen and understand other people which is one of the main reasons why we're divided so much nowadays. I'll always love these lyrics and Disturbed who's created this amazing cover :)

Disturbed's version gets all the glory nowadays, but no-one mentions that they, and many other latterday interpreters of the song, incorporate a variant chord-progression (in the "brain"/"remains" part of each verse) which was introduced by the group Awakening in their 1997 version.
