One of the best endings in cinema history. Comes right out of nowhere but fits perfectly with the rest of the film. The only complaint I have with it is that it was so good, Shyamalan has spent his entire career trying and failing to recreate it.

Yeah, but at the same time it shows what he needs to do. Before I watched this movie it was accidentally spoiled for me due to a joke in a magazine. Even so, I got a lot out of the movie because it wasn't just about the twist. You could remove the part about Malcolm being a ghost and still have a strong, emotional story. Malcolm could have still helped the boy in the same way if he had actually been a living person who had recovered from the gunshot, and it would have struck just as true. The problem is Shyamalan relying too much on the twist and not on the story itself in later movies. I would say Unbreakable was another good return to form because the twist was just a small part of a great story and wasn't the key element that held the story together, but still struck hard.

@@BKPrice The last shot of the movie when it fades to white is really nice... it's very touching. Only a few seconds long, and it still hits. That in itself proved that the ending was about more than just a twist.

One of the best collective cinematic experiences ever. It took Weeks before anyone spoke of the ending. It was a better time. Your just ask someone - “have you seen the 6th sense” -“no” -you should definitely go see that And people did it without question. Globally everyone just stfu about the ending to not ruin it for everyone

I heard it had a "twist ending" and knew it was about a kid who saw dead people - so I figured out even before the movie started rolling that Willis' character was likely dead. Kinda spoiled the ending, but it's still a brilliant movie, and everytime I see it, I marvel at how amazing the movie is.

THREE love stories! Malcolm & his wife, Cole & his mom, & then Malcolm & Cole's friendship (Malcolm becomes a surrogate father figure for Cole & Cole helps Malcolm see things from another angle so that he can realize his own truth). Maybe even there's a case for calling it 3 & 1/2, because Cole's talk with his mom leads to a resolution of the strain in her relationship with her own mom. Edit: Then there's also the sister bond between the poisoned girl & her little sister. She loved her sister so much she couldn't move on until she got help to keep her sister from the same fate. She wasn't really concerned with vengeance for herself by exposing her mom, she just wanted her mom kept away from her sister. Does that count as another one? 🤔

I later learned that the director purposely added the color red to all scenes involving ghosts. He was worried that too many viewers would figure it out, but not many did. I remember us all being shocked in the theater.

When this movie came out, I didn't go see it until it hit the discount theaters; it just hadn't piqued my interest, for some reason. Yet, people everywhere were talking about it, even on my favorite morning radio show. Most surprisingly, *no one* spoiled the twist ending. So, on a last-minute whim, I went and watched it after work one evening. Now, I can usually spot twist endings, or surprise reveals, pretty early on; this one, however, caught me totally off-guard. Even with all the buzz I'd been hearing. And when this scene played on the big screen, I actually shouted out loud, "Oh my GAWD!!"; I think I even jumped a bit in my chair. (Fortunately, there weren't many people in the theater that evening. 😁 )

A bit of business I really like is when they show the door to the basement blocked (not just locked) at the end. But earlier in the movie, they showed him not being able to open the door with the assumption that it was locked because it wasn't blocked. But on the next shot, he is in the basement! The audience is meant to think they just skipped over the process of him getting the key, opening the door, and then going into the basement, an editing thing that is done in movies all the time. But what actually happened was; he felt the door blocked but he couldn't get the key. So instead he went through the door or teleported down into the basement. Of course he couldn't see or remember going through the door because that would mean that he knew he was a ghost. He lied to himself.

Never experienced anything even close to it since 😊 Unfortunately trolls aren't unique to the internet. I got lucky and didn't have some scum bag spoil it.
