Each Space Marine (the big dudes in the armor) each have a bolter which the round it shoots is close if not bigger than a .50 cal. So yeah if you get hit by one of those it is like getting hit by a A-10 Thunderbolt Warthog.

This is honestly one of the best, if not the best, Space Marine animation i have ever seen. The background story always talks about how insanely fast and powerful Space Marines are even in Astartes armor but many times the animations show them as slow moving, clumsy soldiers who just spray wildly with their bolter. This was speed, super precision and power all in one and that's what i always envisioned Space Marines to be. Now imagine you are the enemy and have whole squads of these rushing at you and you understand what it is to fight against Space Marines.

BOOM lasercannon gone" there is no way this couldve been done more efficient. and the end: being fucking crushed by psycermagic, and the moment the blockade is gone, STap -> Rip -> walk towasrds next target. the fact he didnt even take a second for a breather but instead went "target eliminated, aquiering next target" is so fucking scary and so good.

This was better than any movie trailer, more solid action than any big budget Hollywood shooter, incredible lighting and attention to detail, really made the adeptus astartes come to life in a way that no video game or art work has. The weight of their footfalls, the recoil of their bolters, the laze cannon shots deflecting off their plate armor--just amazing; these aren't men in tinfoil costumes, they're human battle-tanks. Incredible. Star Wars? Don't make me laugh.

I think the issue with Starwars, for me, is that it when it appeared in 1979 it was mind-blowing but now, as it is constrained by it's canon it looks soft and a bit hmmm... It's too PC as well, not gritty or dirty or evil enough to be meaningful. Sure you'll get die hard fans going, "Yeah, but... no but". Original films were good but after that, just Grock sh*t. As a sci-fi universe it hasn't really aged well. Just making excuses for itself. 40K is like a twisted, warped mind. It has huge potential for anything from a human tale to outright horror or world shattering mayhem. Starwars is constrained by canon, 40K has auto-cannon.

3:19 - 3:32 is my favorite part of this whole series so far bc it COMPLETELY shows without actually saying outloud the absolute canon lore INSANITY of an Astartes' capability. The Astartes follows the crowd into a corridor not taking pop shots bc why waste time and resources on single kills in a situation where you haven't yet seen the rest of the surroundings. He positions himself in the center of the corridor where each bolter shot is a multi kill and can execute the most heretics. Energy rounds decimate the crowd. In literal nanoseconds he acknowledges the incoming shots (mostly likely before they hit the crowd) and takes the hits. The EXACT moment he acknowledges he's not dead he instantly reacts by shooting at the turret. The moment the rounds splash off of the shield it cuts back to him backing off bc he has already formulated a new plan. Again, in actual nanoseconds, he has determined through intense weapon familiarization what's opposing him and how next to handle it. Without hesitation he takes cover, chucks a flashsmoke, knowing that it would blind the optics used by the turret, charges his energy pistol, takes stance and although unable to see was given more than enough information for any astartes to take a shot based on simply having seen the turrets position, knowing his position, and knowing exactly how far away he walked - TOTAL spacial awareness. ALLLLLL of these mental processes happening in thousands of a second. Happening faster than the time it takes for the actual situation to physically play out before the outcome can be acknowledged next step can be implemented. The only thing that matters is the will to commit action. This is what is being referenced every single time you hear of the Will of the Emperor. And why Astartes are so fucking scary

The 40K universe and lore is there and the breadth and maturity of it's sophistication, mechanics and assembled history should mean that any attempt at realisation has a massive head start. We've just got to hope no studio exec thinks it needs re-shaping for mass-appeal - it already has mass appeal exactly as it is! :-) I'm just pleased someone sees the potential. The 40K universe sits alongside the Iain M. Banks Culture universe as fantastic and engaging realities and why it has taken so long for someone to see the commercial (and artistic) possibilities of bringing these realities to the big or small screen mystifies me when I see some of the utter dross that studios will throw $350m at. Though for that matter, I'm equally mystified why the viewing public flock to the cinemas to watch the results so perhaps it's not just the studios to blame! Anyway, I won't pretend I don't have a concern it may get mangled but I'm trying to be optimistic as I'm so pleased someone is at least trying. Here's hoping!

Having watched this a few times, its dawned on me the fundamental difference between the Astartes and this troopers they're fighting: The Astartes seem to lack a standard sense for _self-preseveration._ While we do see them pause when faced with an unusual or unseen threat (like the wall sniper, double rotary lascannon and psykers) they don't do it to save themselves as much as save the mission from unnecessary complications. Really sells that the Astartes are a world above average soldiers.

It helps they know their armor and augmentations will allow them to effectively ignore almost anything thrown at them. They're essentially immortal when it comes to fighting normal imperial forces

The whole way they work does that. There's no bickering or interplay between them, orders given or anything. True having their voxcasts would distract the viewer but not having that background commentary focuses our attention on the action...... the short snap shots in some scenes, the sniper lay up, multi laser etc....... fantastic. The ragdoll moment when a guard get impaled by what is a sword in effect.... jerks with the impact then just hangs there, so many small details make this incredible

So there are a couple of Warhammer 40k games available. Space Marine and Space Hulk Deathwing Enhanced Edition if you like shooters. Check out RussianBadger's videos for a good summary. Then there's the Dawn of War series if you like RTS's. If you want a series, check out Helsreach on KZbin. A cutscene director from EA made a miniseries based on the audiobook with free assets and Source Filmmaker. Not as good as this, but far longer. Same guy also made a Guardsman live action short and has been hired by Games Workshop to make a fully funded series called Angels of Death.

This guys attention to detail is incredible. I noticed the marks left by the gatling laser on the one so I went back and checked each one over. Look at 3:56. He has the damage on his shoulder pad from being hit with the anti-material rifle. It's the same for the others as well.

@Regular Slime Tactics aren't shown as often in Warhammer because authors don't really understand them. The animator clearly put a lot of thought into each scene. Also rule of cool/epic. Cause they made fun of the World Engine in If The Emperor had a Text-To-Speech Device where apparently a chapter rammed an irreplaceable battleship and detonated its reactors rather than withdraw to a better position and keep shooting. It's always been a pet peeve of mine how most Warhammer 40k animators have their Space Marines walk around ridiculously slow. They have this misguided idea that because Astartes wear such heavy armor, that they are hindered and slowed, when the lore/novels makes constant mention on how fast the armored Astartes are, and that 'things that large should *not* be able to move as quickly as they do.' The only time the lore/novels make mention to Astartes being slow is when they are wearing terminator armor. With that said, I love how the animator of this series has the space marines moving around at a normal walking pace instead of like slugs. It's still a bit weird that they walk around so much during a ship boarding action (ie no sense of urgency?), but it looks so much more fluid and natural than other animators.

Short fan made movie, combined less than 6 minutes. Yet it represents much higher quality, lore, mystery and proper description of Astartes then all "official" works combine by far. The one thing that I really appreciate is the choreography of everything going on here. It is very clear that the marines are just obliterating these heretics. That being said they're legitimately putting their all into trying to kill these astartes and, while they're getting demolished, they're certainly making the marines _work_ for it. The autocannon in particular was their best shot at damaging them before the psykers themselves. Even the guy with the satchel charge was pretty close.

So I did a quick google and found a work factor of 157,784.63 (18 months/5 minutes). Assuming a 90 minute movie, that's apparently 21.08 years. Then I did 54 years/157,784.63 and that worked out to about 3 hours give or take. I agree we'd need at least a three hour movie of this caliber, but I don't know if I'll be alive in fifty four years, so let's hope this guy gets some money and a team.

If anyone was wondering why the 50 cal looking rifle was set up to hit them at a sideways angle, is because in lore one of the ways to stop an Astartes is to hit them in the armpit, a weaker spot in the armor that will punch through the chest and both the hearts.

I'm not saying it would be particularly effective. It's guardsman trying to slow down the Astartes by any means possible. But look at where the third round exits in comparison to where the third marine would be if he kept moving. At the right angle to slip in right underneath the pauldron. With an animator this good who is obviously extremely familiar with the lore, it looks like he was attempting to slip a round underneath to exploit this weakness. Not very effectively, but you will never have regular Astra Militarum do anything very effectively vs The Emperor's Finest

Yeah, a lot of professionals that are hired are college sheep. They learn the bare essentials, but they're there to be paid. Computer graphics is a demanding field, because the level of patience, and dedication it requires. Very soul draining to learn, makes it difficult retaining your artistic vision. I've been learning for a couple years now, and I can barely make ANY animation at all. It's definitely the epitome of all cinematography, since it requires all its relating skills to master.

Def not overwhelming firepower. They had an autocannon and a single mounted hellgun. The Psykers also were very implausibly stupid, laughably so-you could reasonably expect psykers of that power to know how to defend a ship-I.E., catch them in the corridors where they can't flank you. Also, those guys seem to be psychokinetics, who can move small spaceships with their minds- more if they're taking a risk and pushing it. That marine he caught would have been torn limb from limb or crushed instantaneously without specific psyker-protection equipment that he did not have. I.E. he should have died. And, if the Spess Mehrines tried this same stunt on any Tau ship, say, they'd get cut to shreds by the basic Tau infantry pulse rifles, which punch through Plasteel like it was paper. Same for the Eldar and their shuriken weaponry. So this was definitely not overwhelming firepower.

Some novels have it as purplish white, some as yellow, etc. The games in particular tend to depict it as a brighter shade of red, which is what I interpreted it to be here, mostly because it cut half a squad of space marines down- I wouldn't expect a basic multilaser to be able to do that. A hellgun definitely could, though.
