FYI only three percent of Catholic priests have ever been accused of committing crime against children which is the same percentage of the world population doing the same thing. By contrast fifteen percent of Protestant clergy have been accused of the same thing. I got this figure from an episode of the show NIGHTLINE so you can reference it. As a practicing Catholic and I am deeply saddened and more so angered by this report. 😡😞😡 I really do hope those people that committed these crimes face jail time. I can honestly say however that these actions are NOT accepted by us faithful Catholics and definitely NOT taught in scripture or our Sunday mass services! I cannot speak for the diocese of Maryland but I can say that in most if not all other dioceses across the world including the diocese in the city I live in steps HAVE been taken and new rules HAVE been made to prevent abuse against children from ever taking place again in the future. Steps such as background checks for those that work/volunteer within individual parishes INCLUDING priests and training to everyone within parishes to spot and report abuse. Rules also made were in the cast majority of circumstances NOBODY including priests are ever left alone with children for prolonged periods of time. Many more rules too long a list to write here also. I have also heard that priests HAVE TO report any abuse confessed to them by another priest to BOTH the Diocese AND the authorities. IF more needs to be done it is also ENCOURAGED that these ideas be bought up in a timely and appropriate manner AND implemented asap. The last thing I can say is that the Catholic faith (not a religion), is a beautiful one and the actions of evil people within the church does not take away from what I KNOW is the true church of God.

They rarely do. Partly because their parishioners still pay their tithes and are loyal regardless to what's not just exposed, but found to be true. If you think not, just read your comment, you're deeply saddened, but still supportive even though this isn't one or a few, or even isolated to certain areas. It's a centuries old history with deeds, graves, and victims all over the Earth. And it's not just accusations and evidence against the priest, it's also against the nuns. Somehow, Catholics can ignore this and stay faithful, not to GOD, but to the Pope and the "church"..If it wasn't not just tolerated, but accepted, there would be no one in attendance. Because it is tolerated and accepted, excuses are made but nothing changes. Showing little if any compassion for these victimized children, or their families. 💔

You wouldn't know this because you only hear about bad things within the church but have probably never set foot in one. Lastly times change and priests are being excommunicated within the church and even jailed for crimes they commit regardless of what once again your opinion thought not facts are based on. As I understand it catholic doctrine allows priests to forgive and absolve sinners who confess to them for a nominal fee. Perhaps the priests confessed to each other and were forgiven time after time by their fellow perverts.

Otherwise know as indulgences. And then there's that "pay your relatives way out of purgatory" and penitence indulgences. The problem they'll find out after their deaths is that no man, not even the pope can forgive sin. That takes Jesus Christ's Blood and godly repentance to GOD in the name of Jesus Christ/Yeshua. Only GOD can forgive sin. They sadly pray to Mary and Saints, therefore their sins are still upon them. The Catholic church still hasn't repented for their part in Slavery, and still teaches racist dogma to their parishioners, against Black people. If their parishioners wanted the truth, it's there for them to discover. They, like their church, are comfortable hiding the truth, supporting the lies, and making excuses. We must pray that they're eyes are opened, the rest is up to them.
