A reason I've heard for the long titles, is that one of the major self-publishing webnovel sites (think AO3 but not specifically for fan works) in Japan during their written media boom, didn't have a place to put synopses. All the author had available in order to hook a potential reader was the title. So they essentially used the title as a synopsis to let the readers know what a story was about. Because the pipeline of [webnovel => light novel => manga => anime] was/is so common, a lot of these works found their way into other media without changing their titles. And then because it was so common, it became a Thing That Is Done.

Except that he is not breaking containment since there is no scp foundation and the government basically gave up. With that premise, it honestly would be a good manga if not for the isekai part. I've read it and the more chapter the more disconnected the mc to the plot. Probably the author knew the mc is too op so they had to distance the mc from the conflict to make a longer arc

Obviously, One Punch Man is a lot better, but that story also pushes Saitama away from the conflict a lot too. Overlord is also similar too, even if there are still some stakes mixed in. Story's where the MC is SUPPOSED to be redicously OP are just stories that focus on world buildings and side character. That's not a flaw; its a different form of story telling.

​@@RealSunArtI did the same at first! I thought it was about a kid who had IBS or something and was like, bound for the toilet. But they spend almost zero time on the toilet thing. XD The title is a reference to the urban legend of Hanako-san, a girl who was said to have died in a school bathroom and now haunts it. TBHK takes place in a school that is very haunted, and most of the ghosts/entities are bound to a location (like the library or the stairs). The area Hanako is bound to is the girls' bathroom because of the urban legend he's based on. It's got absolutely gorgeous art, an intriguing plot, an immersive setting, supernatural/light horror elements, cute and loveable characters, humor, some romance, and characters that are doomed by the narrative, so if any of those sound good to you, I definitely recommend checking it out. The anime is fun, but it cuts some really good early parts, and the manga art is beautiful, so I either recommend watching the anime and then moving on to the manga if you like it, or just starting with the manga.

I saw a Tumblr post arguing for that translation, and while I see the point and I do think it's more palatable to an English-speaking audience, I don't think it's entirely accurate either. The 地 in 地縛 does mean “earth” on its own, but the phrase 地縛霊 that it comes from refers to a ghost that's tied to a location or place of death, not ground or the earth. If you translate it as “earth-bound,” that would be like translating the English word “mortify” as “to become dead” just because the root “mort” means “death” and “-ify” means “to become,” even though the modern word means “to embarrass.” It is cool to know the etymology, though, and I see how it fits thematically with the story. Hanako is a 地縛霊 that's bound to the bathroom (his boundary) or the school (which he's literally unable to leave). So “bathroom-bound,” “school-bound,” “bound ghost,” or even “ghost boy Hanako-kun” (since the current English translation drops the 少年 entirely) might be more accurate. I'm personally not a fan of any of the “[something]-bound” translations because to me it sounds like he's bound FOR whatever it is, like he's going there. XD I don't really have any better suggestions, though. And finally, as to why they called it that, translators often don't get to translate the title of a work. The author or Japanese publisher often comes up with the title and English-language distributors aren't allowed to change it. This is why a lot of anime/manga titles sound odd: they weren't translated/localized by native English speakers. I don't know if that's the case with TBHK, but I think it's entirely possible. Hope this wasn't too long and didn't come off as passive-aggressive! I think about this a lot and I have a lot of fun talking about Japanese and translation. :D

The "instant death" Manga was actually kinda interesting later Spoilers The power he has wasn't given to him after traveling to the fantasy world, he actually had it since birth in the modern world, making him a threat to society and being secured by the government and investigated, later on he gets a teacher that takes care of him and acts kinda like a mother to him, teaching him morals and kindness That's what made me interested on the story and what would happen. Also, there were also some cults that started worshipping him as the god of death, and also, i read from the comment of a novel reader that he is actually the manifestation of the end, explaining why he can kill everything and anything, but i don't know if it's true because the manga hasn't reached that point.

One reason typically cited for the long titles is that a lot of light novels started out in Japan on forums and AO3 type sites. Back in the day, those sites didn’t have a place to put plot synopses, so the best way to hook people scrolling on the website was to include the premise in the title which was easily visible.

I have read what others have heard to be the reason of stories with long titles, but what I've heard before is that on wattpad-type sites the authors basically started clickbaiting readers like they'd be on youtube, where they explain the whole premise to convince people to read them. Some have said that the sites don't let people add a synopsis, but I never heard of that reason before, still might be true. Either way, it's been clear that some books cannot be judged by their titles, even if they are batshit insane or repetitive. Edit: also came here expecting a certain manga about a dog that is a human... that's one hell of a title... xD But good video. Any isekai, recent fantasy, or some newgen romance series qualify for the title of worst title (xD). There are some really bad manwa titles out there also, everything about gaming has one of the keywords: "impossible skill, ultimate ability, level 999999999999, the hero, respawn, S-rank, player, Demon lord" and many, many more. I wouldn't be able to keep track of so many series if I would actually read them...

The sad thing is that some of these could be good. The instant death story could be a story about someone like Ulla Euleus Hecmatika from Sunday Without God who kills anyone that she sees or touches even if she doesn't want to. They could use that to tell a story of someone who has been shut off due to their curse, but they meet someone who is willing to get to know them. It then could go into an issue like the story of Orpheus and Eurydice that makes the character wonder if their love for that person is invalid because they've never seen or touched them, and it makes them want to see them at the risk of them losing the only close connection that they've ever had. OR It could be that have a trial like the one that is in the series, but it could be team based. The main character could have an ability that indiscriminately kills anyone within a set radius, but they have to strategize on how to use it without harming their teammates since they can't clear out the whole enemy army without killing their own teammates and losing. That could lead to interesting problem solving and strategizing.

5:30 actually a pretty decent manga, with one of the better world building setups - I enjoyed reading it greatly and I highly recommend it. (also it's getting anime adaptation, but it's severely missing on the explanation part...) It's kinda like one-punch man, with epic settings / fights / etc, except for MC being death incarnate who just wants to get back to the original world.

I thought the Instant death isekai manga was pretty good. It's been a while since I've read it but I enjoyed it. I think the title might have got screwed over in the official translation because on mangakakalot it's called "The Other World Doesn't Stand A Chance Against The Power Of Instant Death" which is, while still long, a better title. I'd suggest reading it honestly because I found it pretty interesting. It's similar to one punch man but in a fantasy setting.

While on the topic on terrible looking titles in manga, i found some too that I’d like to share, dont ask me how I found them, theyre just there. (most of them I censored in fear of youtube) 1. Hornstar In Another World ~A Story Of A Jav Actor Reincarnating In Another World And Making Full Use Of His Horn Knowledge To Become A Matchless Hornstar~ (spoiler alert: this isnt about horns, censored) 2. Drawing While Masterbaiting (how did this thing got 53 chapters? Also censored) 3. Ntr In Another World ~Sullying My Best Friend's Women With The Strongest Skill~ (Exactly what you think) 4. After Reuniting with my Childhood Friend, It Turned Out Both of Us had Become Tiddy Monsters (don’t know why the author decided to use that for a title but idk) 5. Climax Exorcism with a Single Touch! (At this point, authors are just using whatever they want to attract readers) 6. The Hero Took Everything from Me, So I Partied with the Hero’s Mother! (Read the premise, its even worse) 7. The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You (since you reached this far, I’d thought I’d sneak this in for funsies. Not that terrible for a title compared to others but I’d recommend reading for the sake of your health haha)

The titles thing for what i have heard is bc it starts as a web novel in a page where diferent authors post their work, idk if doesnt have a descripcion, but the trittle works as it is, its like those clickbait videos, whit the exception its later published as an actual book or manga, several series started as this, like overlord, konosuba, rezero, etc.
