I have given 31 books 5 stars in 2023 (this including the 4,5) out of 75 reads. It was a very good reading year for me ☺️

omg I discovered the exact same thing you did with discovering my love of nonfiction (esp memoirs) through audiobooks! I only managed 2 memoirs in 2023 but have already listened to 2 just in january so hoping to a lot more nonfiction in 2024:) I had 20 out of 57 5 star reads in 2023 but also am very generous with my ratings haha

ahh i love seeing other people's reading stats! there's something so weirdly interesting about it! according to goodreads, i had ten 5 star reads in 2023 - some of those were 4.5 star reads though, that i rounded up!

I ended up with 10 five stars! But I did read HOEAB and Queen of Shadows onwards for the first time in 2023 so I’m not super surprised!

In 2023 I ended up with 39 five star books out of a total 266. 19 of those were either graphic novel, manwa, or manga, 7 of them were re-reads, only 1 non-fiction. I've noticed my ratings on average tend to be 1 five star out of every 10 books. Out of the 266, I had 19 DNFs that all ended up with either 1 or 2 stars as a final rating, 1 star if the book was awful, 2 stars if there were positive things about the book, just not right for me. 83,891 pages read, but this does include all the DNFs, and as the label states, I didn't actually read them entirely, so that number is slightly off. The VAST MAJORITY of what I read is audio books, which I think is the reason for the high totals. And for most manga, manwa, or graphic novel, I can get through those so quickly, several in one reading sprint.

I gave 18 5 stars last year out of 100 books. However, several are rereads that I teach every year and LOVE! Many other are non-fiction academic/religious reads. As far as new to me fiction, I did not give many. I think 7.

I gave out 10 5 stars in 2023, out of 59 books read. This is the same number of 5 stars as in 2022, but as I read 5 books more in 2023 than in 2022 I had hoped for at least one more 5 star.

i feel like i've had the same thing happen as you in regards to being more picky with fantasy i end up absolutely loving as i have read more of the genre. i only had 9 five stars last year out of a hundred books read and only one was a fantasy, even though it was my top read genre 😅
