Lets be fair though, finding a bunch of pale skinned, blue eyed, blond haired Sicilians to say your average Sicilian isn't a little darker than most Europeans is a lot like finding a bunch of six and a half foot tall amazons with 16" biceps to say "women aren't weaker than men". Outliers shouldn't be used to disprove generalizations. It'd be like one of these doofuses finding a bunch of really dark Egyptians to prove 'they are black'.
@PrestonSikes

@@deplorabledegenerate2630 for sure. I'm not saying everyone is pale with blond hair and crap. I'm of Sicilian Heritage, I'm white, but I'm significantly darker than the anglo descendants here in Texas. On one hand, yes, it's entertaining. On the other, I really dislike personal drama. Did I watch this video ... yes. Am I always acting according to my principles ... obviously no. What I'm saying is, I'm kinda torn. One thing I didn't like is how names weren't blurred. I'm aware most people use an alias, still ... it could make things unnecessarily awkward. As far as I'm concerned, the point of a video like this is to debunk, not to name and shame. On the other hand, it's Metatron's channel, he can do as he pleases - I have no better/ more correct way of understanding the world than he does. When all is said and done, I'm just glad I didn't have a brain fart myself (some days, I swear my brain is out to get me) and wasn't featured on his list. Perhaps, this is all just me trying to preemptively protect my future self from the consequences of saying something stupid.

The total lack of understanding the difference, between the world in the Industrial age and the ancient times, amazes me: these people (usually from the USA which is a "mark of ignorance" in itself) really don't understand how big of an obstacle the Sahara region was for people to travel. The Romans set the "Hic sunt Leones" mark on their map just below the coast of Africa, as an inside of how much they knew about the area. There is a Reason why The Ancient Romans called their Numidians auxiliaries "Niger", due to their distinctive skin colour, while they didn't with Chartaginians and other populations on the Mediterranean coast. Black skinned slaves were considered more desirable, as they were "exotic" in the ancient Mediterranean, showing that skin was rare. About Egyptians there are more problems there as the people of the empire was spread in depth across the shores of the Nile up to modern Sudan and Ethiopia, but we know the ruling class has mostly been lightly tanned as there were specific reference to the 25th dynasty as the "Black Pharaohs", being from Kush, which is the modern Abyssinian Plateau. The Hyksos were not identified as "differently skinned" as the Numidians were, nor were the Sea People in the mid XII century BC. There is also mention of Queen Hatshepsut sending a naval expedition to Punt in the early XV century (possibly Eritrea), "where black people live".

@@KWW0321 By now, I do. Still, it does still kind of sting that I gave up feeling defeated in that argument and that I didn't pose better retorts. Basically, he was spouting that women "lacked accountability by nature", that they only look after themselves, other women, or their families, never sacrificing their comforts for the good of society itself. Somehow, I could only think of women who farmed (which he retorted that they only did it for themselves, disregarding the fact that many farmed to provide to other people as a business), giving birth with some dying (he spouted that they only died due to reckless consent and not having medicine, disregarding that many time periods and modern places lacking such luxuries and thus many died at childbirth), and Annie Oakley's rising from a bad childhood and hunting to provide for her family (he argued that it only fueled his point about then only looking out for their families. Oakley did more in her life but I didn't think they'd matter in this debate). Basically, whatever I threw he would dismantle it easily. Eventually, I gave up defeated. In hindsight, I could have mentioned far stronger points about women sacrificing comforts for the good of society. From what I gather, many women stayed to help defenses against medieval seiges like crafting supplies, healing the injured, and many other support roles (it's also not unheard of for them to fight at least as a last resort. For example, Jean Hatchet once drove out invaders). I even could have mentioned modern examples like policewomen and firewomen (the results of physical prowess can be debated but they still showcase the heart and willpower to risk their lives to help others (I at least know of one story where a policewoman stopped a mass murderer's rampage)). I do hope that Metatron eventually discusses about medieval women as it could help spread word of their contributions. Man, that was longer than I intended. Sorry about that.

Just because Egypt is in Africa does not mean that the ancient population looked like some guy in Kenya. Josh Gates did a show on Nefertiti where they did a forensic make up of her face and it was definitely not black African, the facial features looked more Greek, and she not black. Black people went nuts over this. "She lived in Africa, she was black, black, black!" No, no she wasn't. Amusingly, the bust looked exactly like the bust done by the sculptor Thutmose 1345 BCE that now resides in the Berlin Museum, and apparently no one thought to their own comparison as was done on that show. The disconnect is either refusing to acknowledge the real pre-history of that region to promote some agenda, or it's honestly not very well understood from a historical perspective. Quite simply, the pre-historic peoples that resided in Northeast Africa and around the Levant, were not the same population group that existed in sub-Saharan Africa and the DNA reflects that as there was very little to no sub-Saharan DNA present in the majority of North African populations until AFTER the Roman Period.

Ahh yes, the peak of historical science, Josh Gates 😂😂😂 Btw, I like how people think a royal, interracial marriage (her mother in law Tiye is known to be black) is more probable in ancient times than a black woman ruling a known predominantly black continent, since Eurasian settlement didn't happen til the first or second millennia BC and even then was limited to coastal cities for trade reasons, as well as a fear of the desert. Metatron took the skín color around the Mediterranean question too personal. There has actually been DNA studies done to answer the question of why Southern Italians tend to be darker than the North? They wouldn’t do those studies if they didn’t notice differences and if there wasn’t any. The comment he reacted to is actually correct, the people around the Mediterranean developed or are generally descendants of people with darker skín; darker than people in Northern Eurøpe that is. Does that mean all people are darker around the Mediterranean? No because people mixed with each other. So if you have lighter skin that just means your ancestry is mixed with Northern Eurøpeans. Does that mean he isn’t really Sicilian? No, it just means today pretty much everyone is mixed and he is just as much Sicilian as someone with olive skín. Overall great video though and I agree with most he everything said!

Many schools in the UK have this toxic trend where instead of teaching real history, they instead would rather sit back and play clips from Horrible Histories which a lot of it is very wrong, now not all that my schools taught were wrong however some of their claims are ridiculous, they made me believe for YEARS that William the Conqueror was the first ever king of England (which is obviously bull-s***) while at the same time saying how Vikings took over England 100 years before (which they did when Cnut became king), but how could the Vikings take England when William was apparently the first king of England? That makes no sense. Horrible Histories is particularly guilty for spreading that obvious lie. The education system in the UK is rubbish when it comes to History because they only focus on what the Government wants to teach instead of many important bits that we miss out on, like the Northumbrian Golden Age or Alfred the Great or the Magna Carter, THEY DIDN'T EVEN TEACH ME THAT AND I ONLY LEARNT ABOUT IT THROUGH SEARCHING ON KZbin! Under her reign and her successive governments, decolonisation and the decommissioning of the British empire occurred. Of course there were nuance's of the process, but they called her a coloniser? When in actuality the exact opposite thing occurred. When you explain this to the loons they come up with excuses for that as well.

I'm genetically so central/northern European, I should glow in the dark. My hair is dark brown, as are my eyes. My skin is olive. I can pass for whatever Mediterranean ethnicity I want, as well as some American Indian ones. Hell, I personally know people with American Indian heritage who are much, much lighter skinned than I. And here's the fun part: There are pockets of people looking just like me all over central/northern Europe. We're not all glowy-white, that's a huge misconception. Go to a remote village in the Black Forest, and yeah, these people are probably the remainders of some ancient tribes that managed to stubbornly stick to incest and avoid intermingling with later invaders. I've also seen this in Switzerland and in France. (I can also move my ears without twitching the skin on the top of my head, I am afraid I'm a genetic throwback ;D )

Skin tone is a bit more complicated than most think. Plus my dad has blue eyes and I and my youngest sister have green eyes like Achilles 😁 It is these woke people who are the racist who misrepresent my ethnic identity. Depending on education, the information that is taught can be from 100, 200 years and older books. You know, when people tried to turn racism into a scientific discipline. Like skull size comparison etc. If you have any interest in science and its history, then this is easily debunked. Often even in the same class. But some just look for arguments to underline their agenda, and not to actually understand. Or they are truly as limited as that and do not comprehend that there is error and not everything anyone makes up in their mind is actually reasonable or real. They turn racist, because ironically racism is intellectually about the state of mind someone is in, and has nothing to do with how somebody looks. The "looks" part is probably some ancient reflex in our brain to fear the alien, or whatever, I am no expert by a long shot. But they see race and make it a topic, because that appears to be what is on their short circuted with rage brains that try to comprehend the world and make connections where there are none. Then they look up words and...you know... Like Plato´s shadow maybe, or the fact that we tend search for patterns like figures in a dark wood at night, that are only there because we imagine them to be.

@@PerdiccasMKD In other words, like just about every other ethnicity modern day Greeks are a mix from many influences? That's exactly the point people are making. We all are (well, probably not if you're from the Sentinel island, but those are exceptions). And that's why we have so many variations even within one nation. Just because your ancestor lived a long time ago does not mean his/her DNA can't crop up later. We know that Neanderthal DNA still does, and they went extinct (as "purebreds" ... no political or ideological implications intended) about 40.000 years ago (some pockets of population might have survived longer, even until about 30.000 years ago; data is in development). Yet, here we are, still being able to test traces of their DNA in many modern people.

I have never been able to slog my way through reading history text so I really appreciate the way you break the details down. I also immensely value that you carefully research every detail and provide the sources. In a time when it's difficult to trust anything that is presented, from virtually any form of media (social, written, or news), as so much of what is 'out there' is tainted by opion and not facts, I am grateful to have found your channel. I feel confident that I can believe the information you present and I very much appreciate that you share your expertise with the subjects you present. I would honestly have no way (not the skill, or the time) to validate my own search. I also have so little faith in what I read or watch as I've experienced first hand how the opinions of people matter more than the truth. I was born in an African country that no longer exists and has been vilified by history, such that I learned to not believe what I was taught in History class when I was young. And this information was coming from people I was supposed to be able to trust, my teachers. My Canadian teachers. Canadians don't lie, right? Certainly Canadian history text books don't lie. So, you are a breath of fresh air, thank you so much!

@@nowayjosedaniel sorry Columbus was a monster.. why, what did he do? Let's make sure we do not confuse Columbus with Pizarro for example.. or Cortez. ..Cortez put tenochtitlan under siege and killed many. It also has to be said that his men were skinned alive by the Aztecs and their skin was used as a drape still dripping with blood by the priests at the bottom of the pyramid... So if we play the monster game here I am not really sure indigenous peoples would come up clean ;) In any case Columbus is no Pizarro and no Cortez, that was my point. I realise cancel culture is making it difficult to understand how things went unless we go to the source which is academic books or, in this case, his diary. Columbus did in fact report on his trips... would have he reported on atrocities and crimes in case his men committed any? Hardly right? What we know instead is that his men fell victims to indigenous attacks. I approve of any antiracist and pro indigenous agenda 100%, I studied anthropology ...but let's try not force history too much: when it comes to history shades are everything and not all westerners moving to the Caribbean or South America were monsters. ;)
