@ yes. I was raised and confirmed in the Catholic Church. In my youth, there were topics I was convinced I was correct and the church was incorrect about. So as to not start a doctrine disagreement, I’d describe my current position as this: there is One God, and the only way to Him is through Jesus Christ. Essentially, I believe in the Nicene Creed. The other things I’m still working through are not that. I guess I would just like the reassurance that I could come home, not have these other things quite figured out (but that includes maybe not agreeing with the church 100% about them) but still be safe at home and not feel like a heretic or hypocrite.

Please don’t quit, but above all things, remember that you are loved, and you will forever be loved, by Christ, no matter what happens in your life, and also no matter what decision you make regarding this. Hoping you have a meaningful day wherein you find hope. God bless.

I disagree. Matt is about the only trad-ish Catholic who is NOT sanctimonious and purposefully divisive. I had to stop most other trad Catholic content, but will still listen to Pints. And it gives me a little window into what someone like Ralph Martin might think, like how God is good but also decided to create a world where he knew beforehand that almost everyone would end up in excruciating torment... forever. That no longer makes sense on a basic level to me, but it's a good reminder that it does to a good chunk of Catholics. Matt asks them the questions that i'm thinking usually.

Hey, Matt. Grateful for your mission. You were instrumental in me joining the Church back in 2018. I was a Patreon supporter for a couple years as well. You're definitely appreciated. I've struggled a bit through covid and beyond, and I hadn't listened to your stuff for awhile. Not because of anything you did, I just wasn't tuning in. As I'm coming back around, I have to respectfully point out that, yes, there have been some shocking changes. I don't care about the political stuff at all, but I do care about the tone and default disposition of the show. I believe there is a growing problem in the world, in all corners, where things like cleverness, scorn, irreverance, wit, and other similar things gel into this problem that degrades and distracts. This is something I am trying to research and consider more to better flesh it out, so please forgive my terrible explanation. But I see that here with what you're doing now. Not always, of course. But this need to be wildly witty and/or cut to the bone with responses or clips cut into the videos would not have happend before. I feel there is a wild lack of charity and prudence with a lot of comments and attitudes. Mocking and laughing at people you think are ridiculous is not what Christ would have us do. Obviously, don't agree with madness or condone it. But are mocking and scornfulness signs of Holy Spirit? I don't write to condemn, I write as a brother who is concerned. There is such a stark contrast between the show's 2024 demeanor and what it was in the past. God bless you, your family, and your crew. Sorry for the novel. Cheers.
@champagne.future524849 минут бұрын
People have very different opinions about humour, in terms of what is acceptable and charitable. By internet standards Matt is VERY tame. Some Christian influencers are tamer still but they can be fake and boring. I don’t see any striking changes in his behaviour before or after Covid. He’s just Matt: good humoured, sincere, dealing with controversial topics honestly and without affectation
@ComeOnYouBlackAndBlue43 минут бұрын
@champagne.future5248 respectfully, there is unquestionably a different tone to the show and disposition of crew now versus the past. And I do agree that humor is widely subjective, and Matt is certainly tame compared to the internet at-large. But that is separate point that isn't related to what I am talking about. But "the internet" isn't a good baseline for what's acceptable or charitable.

I do somewhat agree with some of the criticisms. What originally drew me to the show was how you talked about hard things--things that are often counter-cultural--but did so in a way that was compassionate and charitable. I've found in the past year or so that more and more of the content here has become "snarky" and I find myself listening less and less. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with the direction the show is moving in, but just wanted to share that I feel the tone of the show has shifted and it's been harder for me to enjoy the content.

The commenter at 2:20 has a valid point, but it all depends on what you want from a podcast. For example, the late Al Kresta was a masterful interviewer, and he was able to ask targeted, pithy questions to bring forth the most important insights from his guest, even within the time constraints of live radio. So if I listened to a segment of Al Kresta's show, I could learn an amazing amount from Al's conversation with his guest, even in just one 15-minute segment. Matt uses a more free-wheeling, relaxed, unhurried approach to interviewing. This means that the same valuable insights that I could have gotten from a 15-minute interview with Al Kresta may take two hours to get from an interview with Matt. But the interview with Matt will also have much more, including conversation on topics that you wouldn't expect that guest to discuss. It's just a different atmosphere or attitude. One is targeted and to the point, while the other is playful and relaxed. As I see it, both approaches have advantages and disadvantages, and different listeners will prefer one approach or the other. Or some listeners, like me, will enjoy both.

Wooo! Hold the bus. Yes, maybe give some thought to some of the comments, pray about them, then let them go in one ear and out the other. You are helping so many people in their relationship with the Lord. You are letting your light shine for Jesus. Of course there’s going to be people who disagree, but brother don’t you quit. You do the best you can, give it to the Lord, and He’ll make good out of it. Matt this may sound crazy, but years ago, when I first planted my flower bed we laid the fertilizer to it. That cow poop stunk our house up and probably my neighbor’s yard for a couple of days. The wind seemed like it was taking that scent everywhere. Then the scent went away, and I had some of the prettiest roses in the neighborhood. My point is this, sure you can bury cow poop, or you can use it to help produce beautiful flowers. God uses our messes and what we see as extreme little to make great things come out of it. Just because you can’t see the results doesn’t mean they’re not there. Sometimes you may say things wrong, or discuss a topic that may be a little controversial, but if it’s for the glory of the Lord, do it. I am glad you’re not cussing or drinking on there. I’ll just be truthful with you Matt, because I know there’s a lot of people that are not Catholic and the devil could cause this to be a stumbling block. Other than that, I think you’re doing a great job! Keep it up. I’ve got you, Cameron, and your family on my prayer list. Keep it up. When in doubt always remember cow poop leads to beautiful roses. Even though our best is as filthy rags before our blessed Lord, He still is willing to use it.

Somebody saying you're cosplaying as someone means you're pretending you do what they do. For somebody cosplaying as Gimli, it would be pretending to shun and scorn somebody dressed as an elf. For somebody cosplaying as a DW host, presumably that means pretending to mock marxists or some other thing; this is really a pretend insult that feels insulting to nobody but the person saying it. If you were to say "facts don't care about your feelings," I think everybody would enjoy it except that commenter.

Hello Matt. We like your Chanel. I have a question. We are looking for an english Catholic Bible. When my wife and me were protestants the King James was the best. Now we are Catholics by the Grace of God. Any recommendation from you or any subscriber? IThanks and God bless you all. Greetings from Spain
@Doublebackflip114 сағат бұрын
Hi. Congratulations and you and your wife’s conversion. For a good English translation, there are two that immediately come to mind. 1) The douay Rheims. This is a very traditional translation used by catholics for centuries, and as a result has a devoted fanbase, similar to that of the KJV in Protestant circles. It is a word for word translation, which I have always personally preferred, but just to make you aware it is a translation, not of the original texts, but a translation of the vulgate, which was a Latin translation of the Septuagint written by st Jerome. It is also a older translation, so it can be, at times, hard for a modern person to read. But if, as you say in your comment, you used to read KJV, you won’t find any problem either understanding it. 2) The NRSVCE The NRSVCE is considered the most ‘scholarly’ translation and will be often used in books/papers in the field of bible scholarship. It is also a word for word translation, like the Douay Rheims, and the modern language used might make it easier for the reader to engage with. However, it doesn’t have the same level of history as the Douay Rheims, and is coming at the translation from a more secular point of view. This means that when you have a choice of words the Greek or Hebrew word could be translated to In English, the NRSVCE usually goes with the less faith/religion sounding word and more with a word without the direct religious connotations. These bibles are both approved by the church, so really I would suggest trusting your conscience and taking the matter to God in prayer. Hope this helpful, and God bless you and your family.
@SergioGilNebro3 сағат бұрын
@Doublebackflip11 Thanks a lot for your good and long answer. About trusting in my conscience, I preffer to be careful. The conscience of Luther "was captived to the Word of God", and look what happened. :-) So, from now on as Catholics, better to look also for good and wise direction. 🙏🏻 God bless you.

@@SergioGilNebroI'd second the Douay Rheims suggestion, but more so to have on hand as a reference. It's rather difficult to read. My suggestion would be the Ignatius Catholic Study Bible. ““Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” Matthew 5:11-12 NKJV❤ I’ve never felt the power of the Holy Spirit so strongly over this verse before. I truly believe God LOVES our faithfulness through suffering, and promises reward we can’t fathom. Remember this through the awkwardness, the embarrassment, the concern for social pressures, hate, and even violence and death. Imagine what embarrassing, difficult things would you do for a billion dollar lottery. Now imagine what you’ll do for your Creator, the lover of your soul, the source of all meaning, value, and joy itself when He cannot lie and promises exceedingly. Imagine those around the world that are being attacked and literally killed for Christ. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad. ❤

Criticism is not persecution stop being dramatic
@KoLecnac2 сағат бұрын
@ Very true, “criticism is not persecution”. HATE COMMENTS are a bit more. The reality of thousands upon thousands of Christians murdered or forced to flee around the world is very dramatic. While this is a totally different level of persecution, all of the attacks started as thoughts and words of hateful criticism(not simple correction criticism). Hateful words can direct the destiny of nations, esp. democracies making choices based on what they hear. The hate of Cain was the seed of murder against Abel. Criticism FROM the prophets was a call for repentance. Criticism AGAINST the prophets was a hateful call to end them permanently. Jesus said, “…whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.’ But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. And whoever says to his brother, ‘Raca!’ Shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says, ‘You fool!’ Shall be in danger of hell fire.”Matt. 5:21-22 “For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”” Matthew 12:37 NKJV
