Reading Hyped Romances on Tik Tok | Are They Actually Good??

I think the overhype on tiktok probably has to do with the fact that it has gotten a lot of people into reading romance, so they don't have good books to compare the overhyped ones to. There are also a lot of brand new readers who are learning to love reading from tiktok recommendations, so there's that as well

This makes a lot of sense! When beginner romance readers read these average books they think its the best thing they've ever read because they've never read anything like it before while for the rest of us these books seem incredibly mediocre and base line since we're already so desensitized to these books. (Most people or at least me) who've been reading for a while seek original content/stories so it doesn't seem like we're reading the same exact book/scenes everytime we pick up a book and also for the thrill/high you get from reading something exciting and new.

I think in the dirty air series, the last two books that is Santiago and Jax's story are the best because the author seemed to have found her style and the stories and the main characters are so good. Especially Jax's story, his gets really emotional.

Zodiac Academy gets so much better. They definitely get a back bone. 😉 I’m obsessed with the series. The first book wasn’t great. I think the way they set up the world was really confusing. But once you understand it more it gets really good.

Zodiac academy was a mess and I agree with all of your critiques but idk, I was still entertained. It was kind of like watching Riverdale. It was a hot mess but I can’t say I didn’t have a good time. Might continue the series.

I love zodiac academy. I dont have a tick tok, and heard about these books in a sjm book club I'm in as I love bully romance and student teacher romance troops (this is the reason I read them) I didn't have any issues with the books. The twins are 18 and just out of high school. I will say it gets better and better as the books go on since the 1st book is more world building/dealing with a new reality that is unexpected ect.. I believe there are 2 more books that are still going to be written and the romance definitely gets stronger as you go through the books. I will say I do with the Romance started sooner than later but I under stand why.

It's such a heart felt read, she's relatable and they're misunderstandings isn't something that is such a major thing but it affects them and how they get back together is just... ACKK

I just got into reading (I used to read a lot when I was a kid but haven’t recently) and I had been reading a lot of Wattpad fanfics. The first book I read this month was Throttled and I completely agree with you. It was okay, kinda felt like a Wattpad book, very cliché but oh well 😂

I loved the Love Hypothesis so much that I literally reread it after reading it the first time. I then went and looked Ali Hazelwood on AO3 and read her fanfictions. There were a few in there that weren't my cuppa, but there was one called Your Pretty Little Heart that I loved.

I rated throttled 3.5/4 too. And I’ve already read book 2 and didn’t love it as much because I wasn’t so into the actual couple like you said but I plan to continue reading the rest of the series

I read the first 5 books of Zodiac academy series…the story gets very complex, the world building is great in my opinion and the character growth is good..there is a lot of mystery and secrets and action and it gets heartbreaking at some point….overall is a good, addictive story. I would recommend to try, you might like it…. Thank you for all your videos and recommendations ☺️ Btw there will be romance! Is a slow burn and forbidden (for some) …the books are huge and it takes a while

I think you will enjoy "The Spanish Love Deception". I absoloutly adored it myself and at the time I didn't know that it was hyped on tiktok. But it's the best book I've read this year. If you do read it I hope you enjoy it💕

The Love Hypothesis was cute, and I've heard good things about the Zodiac series. The other wasn't on my radar, and I'm 😎 with keeping it that way. 😂 I don't watch Tik Tok, but I tend to be leary of "hyped things" anyway. I am a child of the 80's who lived through the Guess and Swatch crazes... So yeah... Don't put much faith in anything that's hyped.

When you compared Zodiac Academy to Legacies (the 2nd spin-off of TVD) I actually laughed out loud 😂😂😂 Legacies is so horrible. I watch it with my mom but we continue to because I love TVD too much to stop. It is terrible in so many ways! 😂😭

PLEASE CONTINUE ZODIAC ACADEMY. The romance is amazing so is the plot/world building. Baby it has 6 books so be patient in the regards of both. 2-3 books sets them apart.

i love tik tok, but sadly booktok only disappoints me! i mainly get recommendations of books i read in 2016 or tiktoks from authors selling their book as this amazing thing but in the end, i dnfing at 40% because it was terrible. overall, i still love booktok i just think that hyped books aren't for me, because i want to love the book just to joining the hype but at the same time i know most of these hyped books are just average.

Trying to get through Throttled but I’m a massive f1 fan. I’m only like 5% in and there’s a bunch of inaccuracies that really yank me out of the story. The writing is okay, may dnf. 😞 I was hoping for a solid formula 1 romance. If you’re gonna write f1, I feel like it needs to feel like it’s own character.

Personally, I think Zodiac Academy and all of the author duo's books are bad. I've read/dnf a few of their books and the writing is terrible. It is so immature and the phrases are repeated so much. The romance is stupid too. Generally I do not trust tiktok, a lot of the books on there are not good/for me and it kind of annoys me that so many creators are gaining traction when I see booktubers like you who have been doing KZbin for years and not getting the recognition. To be honest I only trust your recommendations and Jenn from The Book Refuge.
